Marcia (Marci) Muller has joined Cornell Cooperative Extension as the new Horticulture Program Leader in Monroe County.

She will work directly with the local commercial horticulture industry to provide researchbased outreach and education.

Monroe County has a strong horticulture presence in our region and Muller hopes to use her experience to ensure continued vitality and growth. She will also look for new opportunities to expand CCEMonroe’s outreach.

Grace Crowe of Brockport, was named to the 2019 fall president’s list at The College of Brockport. Grace is studying biochemistry with a minor in pre-professional health. She is the daughter of Carl W. Crowe Sr. and Denise Crowe of Brockport.

Zachary Dean of Churchville has been awarded a $1,000 “Alumni Scholarship” to Alfred State College. Dean is slated to graduate in 2020 from Churchville-Chili Senior High School and has been accepted into the computer science (AS) program.

The “Alumni Scholarship” is awarded to first-time freshmen students who are children or grandchildren of Alfred State alumnus; student must have an 83 or better high school average (through the end of junior year).

Shaun M. Burns of Hilton, was named to the 2019 fall dean’s list at The College at Brockport. He is a 2015 graduate of Hilton High School. Shaun is the son of Dennis and René Burns of Hilton.

Kyle Napier of Hilton, was named to the 2019 fall president’s list at SUNY Cortland. He is a Fitness Development major.

Southern sisters are at the center of Crimes of the Heart You don’t need much more than three sisters, a kitchen, and some outlandish actions (such as making a pitcher of lemonade immediately after shooting your husband) to populate a good ol’ Southern Gothic tragicomedy. Beth Henley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Crimes of the Heart is being given a new production, presented by The College at Brockport Department of Theatre and Music Studies, opening on Friday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m., in the Tower Fine Arts Center Mainstage Theatre, 180 Holley Street, Brockport.

Contrasting the kookiness are the truly heartwrenching backstories Henley gave to her trio of siblings, which help audiences fall in love with the Magrath sisters of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Michael Krickmire, a faculty member in the department, and director of the production, feels that “Henley makes sure that the audience is treated to moments of ‘sibling dynamics’ that are hilarious, yet ultimately honest and familiar to many.”

Performances will take place on February 28, 29, March 5, 6, and 7, at 7:30 p.m. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, March 1, which will be ASL interpreted. Tickets are $17 general, $12 for seniors, alumni, faculty and staff, and $9 for students. They are available at fineartstix.brockport.edu, by phone at 395-2787, or at the Tower box office.
