by Warren Kozireski Hilton (Class AA), Spencerport (Class A), Byron-Bergen (Class C2), and Holley (Class C1) are among area teams with aspirations of a Section V girls soccer title.

The Cadets won their first division title since 2012 and entered the postseason seed first in Class AA after finishing the regular season 7-1-2 with their only loss on the final day. The team allowed only five goals all season, with three of those coming in the loss.

“We were a combined three wins and one tie versus the 2019 Class AA co-champs Penfield and Webster Schroeder,” head coach Eric Trabold said. “The turning point was the first win versus Schroeder (1-0) as we went on a streak of six shutouts until our last match of the regular season versus Fairport.

“Juniors Brynn Sidebotham and Caitlin Nelson have proven to be a dynamic tandem up front, scoring a combined seven goals (five for Nelson) and five assists.

“Our three captains have been tremendous leaders and exceptional players, key in our focus and quality of play; Sydney Hayward, Emma Spelman, and Brooke Wilson. Additionally, our goalkeepers Victoria Cangialosi and Hannah Robinson have combined for seven shutouts in ten games. Key in our defensive prowess has also been seniors Maddie Manetta, Sydney Carpenter, and Jenny DiMaggio.”

Hilton has a first round bye and will play the winner of Rush-Henrietta versus Webster-Schroeder on November 18 with the championship game November 21.

Ditto for Class A top-seed Spencerport, who allowed only four goals all season. The 12-0-0 Rangers won the Monroe County Divisional championship. Though the state playoffs have been canceled this season,

Spencerport has made the Class A state final for the last four years.

“Just a great season with great kids having fun/playing soccer,” head coach Jamie Schneider said.

Junior captain Emma Taylor was a big reason why the Rangers allowed so few goals at center-back, along with junior outside midfielders Lily Brongo and Alyssa Hackett.

Senior co-captain Sabrina Trapani anchors the midfield while chipping in with two goals and two assists during the regular season. And senior Corynna Rotoli led all Monroe County Division II players with 13 goals and six assists in 12 games.

The Rangers play the winner of Eastridge (#8) and Greece Athena (#9) at home on November 14. The Class A semi-finals and final dates are still to be determined.

Byron-Bergen is seeded second behind Geneseo in Class C2 after their 9-4-0 regular season, including a five-game winning streak to finish with three shutouts.

Senior co-captain Eden Goff led the squad with seven goals and 16 points, with youngsters Mackenzie Hagen (freshman) and Mia Gray (seventh-grade) combining for an additional eight goals and seven assists.

Senior co-captains Zoey Chambry and Bianca Brumsted provide the core of the defensive unit in front of senior goalkeeper Hope Hersom, who made over 100 saves while allowing only 11 goals this season.

The Bees await the winner of Kendall (#7) and Caledonia-Mumford (#10) on November 13, with the semi-finals and finals November 17 and 20, respectively. Kendall is led offensively by senior co-captain Brianna Wakefield, freshman Megan Gates, and senior co-captain Madison Jacob, who combined to score 19 of the Eagles’ 30 goals this season.

Holley (10-1-2) enters the Section V playoffs as the fourth-seed in Class C1 and riding a three-game winning streak with one goal allowed.

“We had a great season; these girls really exceeded our expectations,” co-head coach Renee Wolf said. “We were short on numbers, only carrying 13 to 14 girls on our roster and playing in one of the toughest leagues, and division one carried its own challenges.”

The Hawks won the Genesee Region Division 1 title, beating Wheatland-Chili 4-1 after losing to them earlier in the season.

“We are very young and old at the same time. We have four freshmen who play the entire game and make up most of our defense, while the middle of the field is strong with seniors.

“A few of the girls who really stepped it up from the beginning were (junior) Tatum Gagne, who was playing a forward and moved to a flank and really helped us out.

(Sophomore) Sara Kingdollar was moved from a flank position to an outside back and has really saved us in the back with the help of freshmen Bella Thom and Jailyn Bishop. Senior Hayley Skidmore was moved from an outside back to a forward and has been involved in the offense, helping us come up big with goals, especially in the win over Kendall. (Senior co-captains) Halee Passarell, Kayleigh Neale, and (freshman) Sam Bates really have led the team with passes, goals, communication, and controlling the field; they are three of our best players.”

Holley played 13th-seeded Sodus in the first round with quarterfinals scheduled for November 13.

Churchville-Chili (5-4-1), behind sophomore Amelia Breton’s nine goals, and Brockport (5-6), led by Maija Young and Nadia Nealon, were seeded sixth and 11th in Class A.

Rochester’s Cory Sertl elected Vice President of World Sailing

Rochester’s Cory Sertl, President of US Sailing, was officially elected as one of seven new Vice Presidents of World Sailing at the General Assembly on Sunday, November 1.

Sertl will serve on World Sailing’s Board of Directors for a four-year term.

Sertl was thrilled and honored to receive the news about her new position with World Sailing and looks forward to the challenge.

“It is indeed a privilege to serve the sport of sailing in the role of Vice President,” said Sertl. “World Sailing has immediate challenges to tackle and solve with finances and delivering Sailing at the Olympic Games next summer. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the new Board.”

In October of 2018, Sertl was elected President of US Sailing to serve a three-year term for the National Governing Body. She is especially proud of how much US Sailing contributes to the World Sailing through the efforts of its delegation of volunteers serving on committees and commissions of the federation. Sertl has been active on behalf of US Sailing as a delegate to World Sailing since 1995. She has served as a representative on the Council for North America and Chairs the Youth Events Sub Committee and Youth World Championships Committee.

Sertl has had an extensive and successful sailing career, both on and off the water.

“I truly love the diversity of sailing,” she said. “Throughout my sailing career, I have

been involved in small dinghies, Match Racing, Team Racing, Olympic classes, International One Design classes, One Design Keelboats, large One Design Keelboats, and handicapped racing.” Sertl was an athlete at the 1988 Olympic Games as a 470 sailor, and she also launched Olympic campaigns in 1992 and 2004. She is a two-time Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year award winner in 1995 and 2001. Sertl is also a certified US Sailing Instructor Trainer and coach.

Sailing is a family activity for the Sertls.

Cory and her husband, Mark, have two grown children, who sailed at the college level – Katja (Boston College, 2016) and Nick (Harvard, 2018).

A Golden Girls Christmas Carol OFC Creations is presenting A Golden Girls Christmas Carol The Musical from December 4 through 31, 2020. Based on the 1980s sitcom, The Golden Girls are played by a cast of male actors with a new storyline.

The story is set in the present day and follows Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose, who are excited to finally get out of quarantine and get glammed up for the Miami Community Center’s Christmas Pageant. However, Sophia is grouchy from being cooped up and dishes out some zingers while refusing to embrace the holiday season. Forced to face her selfish ways, she encounters three celebrity ghosts who lead her through her past, present, and future. The three spirits attempt to fill Sophia with the Christmas spirit and get her to the pageant. The musical comedy will feature a range of parody holiday tunes sharing what is sure to be a very golden Christmas.

OFC Creations presented Thank You For Being A Friend: The Golden Girls Musical in April 2019 with three weekends of soldout shows. A Golden Girls Christmas Carol stars the same actors, reprising their roles – Hunter Ekberg as Rose, Shawn Gray as Sophia, Eric Vaughn Johnson as Dorothy, and Eric Schutt as Blanche.

Live performances are tentatively planned for December 4 through 31, 2020, depending on NYS regulations surrounding COVID-19. Virtual streamed performances

will be available on the same dates and times, regardless, for audiences to watch from home.

If live performances occur, the theatre will be limited to 50 attendees in the HEPA-filtered center. Masks are required throughout the center except while eating and drinking. Attendees will have at least four seats between them and another party, and when possible, attendees will receive their “own” row in the center. Food and bar service will be brought to attendees’ seats to limit congestion at the bar, and thorough cleaning and disinfecting of the full center will take place before and after the event with many hand sanitizing stations.
