Great Girl Scout Sign Up Event Girl Scouts of Western New York invites girls in grades K-12 and their families to attend the free Great Girl Scout Sign Up Event. Girls and their families will explore what Girl Scouts is all about and learn how they can discover their talents and passions in a safe and supportive all-girl, girl-led environment. Girls will also enjoy fun give-a-ways, a scavenger hunt, friendship bracelet making, Girl Scout BINGO, and more. This one-day event will be held October 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rochester Service Center, 1000 Elmwood Avenue, Door 9, Rochester.

Girl Scouts takes the potential of girls, combines it with robust skill-building programming, and adds caring adult mentors and strong female role models. Girl Scout volunteering allows adults the opportunity to have shared experiences, bond, and develop deeper and more meaningful connections with their girls compared to other volunteering. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Girls must be accompanied by an adult. Dairy farmer addresses Spencerport Rotary Club Dairy farmers are experts at animal care, land preservation, and dairy foods. Dairy farmer Kelly Reynolds shared this expertise when she spoke with members of the Spencerport Rotary Club about her family’s dairy farm. Reynolds’ family owns Reyncrest Farms outside of Corfu. They care for over 2,000 cows every day on their farm. “As a dairy farmer, I love what I do,” Reynolds told the members. “My family and I live on our farm. We are committed to protecting the land, water and air entrusted to us.” Reynolds covered all aspects of dairy farming, from how the cows are cared for to the safety of the milk produced on the farm. “While each dairy farm is a little different, all farmers are serious about

their responsibility to take care of the natural resources and animals on their farms,” Reynolds said. “Cows are given a nutritious diet, good medical care and healthy living conditions. Farmers work with experts to find the best ways to reduce energy use, conserve water, and protect the land.” Reynolds’ insight into the daily life of a dairy farmer was an eye-opener for many of the members of the Spencerport Rotary Club. Now club members know they can purchase milk, cheese, and yogurt with confidence because of the care dairy farmers like the Reynolds take to produce it. 89.1 The Point collecting items for Willow Domestic Violence Center Every nine seconds, another woman is the U.S. is beaten. One in four women in the U.S. will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, most frequently by someone they know. Forty to 60 percent of men who abuse women also abuse children. 89.1 The Point is teaming up with the Willow Domestic Violence Center and the communities of Orleans, Genesee, and Monroe counties to collect women’s and children’s clothing, along with personal care and pet care items for the center. Each year, Willow Center provides services to over 7,500 clients and reaches another 12,000 through prevention education in the Greater Rochester area. Willow offers 24/7 Crisis and Support Hotline, a 49-bed Emergency Residential Shelter, and Willow is also one of the very few violence centers that offer pet services. When survivors of domestic violence

escape their abusive homes they’re not only faced with the challenge of finding shelter for themselves and their children, but also for their pets. Concern about what might happen to their pets keeps 65 percent of domestic violence survivors from leaving the abuser. The Pet Program helps survivors heal by keeping their pets with them during a difficult time. 89.1 The Point will be at the Walmart in Batavia and in Brockport on Friday, October 18, from 5 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Point will be onsite with Prevention and Outreach of the College at Brockport. Willow is looking for items such as fall/winter women’s clothing, children’s clothing, toiletries, and pet care items. Visit 891thepoint.com for the full list of needed items. Provided information

Sweden Community Foundation to build gazebo at Sweden Town Park dedicated to Willie Sweeting The Sweden Community Foundation, continuing in its quest to enhance the Sweden Town Park, will be raising funds for a gazebo near the Town of Sweden Lodge. It will be dedicated in memory of Willie Sweeting (1944-2018), lifelong resident and recreation advocate in the Town of Sweden. An outstanding high school athlete at Brockport High School, Sweeting owned and operated Earl ‘n’ Bill’s Gas Station with Earl Siegfried for twenty years before starting a career at Brockport Central School District where he supervised the transportation mechanics, security staff and grounds and athletic fields.
