To honor the creative efforts teachers have made to maneuver their ever-shifting learning environments and keep students engaged this past year, SONIC® Drive-In donated $1.5 million to teacher requests on national education nonprofit site DonorsChoose on Teacher Appreciation Day, May 4. As part of SONIC’s ongoing Limeades for Learning initiative, the $1.5 million donation helped fund more than 7,000 teacher requests across the country in need of critical resources, including one in Brockport.

Mrs. Postilli at Brockport’s Fred W Hill Elementary School received a combined donation of $61 from SONIC® towards her project, “Headphones to Get Ahead in School.”

The entire $365 project has been fully funded through various donations and the headphones are already in use.

“These headphones are just right for our classroom. They are the perfect solution for keeping kids focused when they are working on an assignment that requires them to watch a video. The students also love the fact that they don’t have to be distracted by students without headphones anymore,” Mrs. Postilli said. “With the diversity of learning environments that learners have experienced in the past year, this project maximizes the benefits of audio-based learning activities.”

Move more with the Rochester Heart Walk & Run A whole new Rochester Heart Walk & Run is coming up.

Now in its 31st year, this community event is going digital and adding new experiences this year.

The Heart Walk & Run experience will culminate in a day of celebration on Thursday, June 10. Walkers will not physically meet in one spot, but will still share a day of movement and inspiration. Several area businesses will be hosting their own Heart Walk & Run experience on June 10, with employees and family members walking at work. Any businesses interested in hosting an experience can contact RochesterAHA@heart.org for assistance.

“Now, more than ever, we’re all looking for ways to connect with others, stay active and stay encouraged,” said Keith Williams, managing partner with Consiliarium Group. “This new format allows everyone to continue to have fun and support the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission, while staying safe and healthy.”

“We are grateful for the support from our community and can’t wait to see how everyone makes the Heart Walk & Run their own,” said Jennifer Graney, partner with Consiliarium Group.

The American Heart Association will be sharing heart health information, movement inspiration, and nutrition tips with participants by email and on social media on the Rochester Heart Walk & Run Facebook event page.

All participants are encouraged to walk, run, or move however, wherever, and whenever they can, whether at work or at home. Participants can share pictures and stories in the Facebook event page, or by tagging @AHANewYork on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and using the hashtag #ROCHeartWalk or #ROCHeartRun. New this year, anyone can also take part in the Rochester Heart Walk & Run activity challenge by downloading the Heart Walk app and tracking physical activity. The Heart Walk app is available on the App Store and Google Play.

The Rochester Heart Walk & Run is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate heart and stroke survivors, raise lifesaving funds and encourage physical activity. Here are a few fun activities to consider choosing from: •Take a walk outside (while following current social distancing guidelines).

•Get the whole family involved and have an indoor dance party.

•Try out a few strengthening exercises like push-ups, lunges and squats.

•Create an at home circuit workout.

Runners will be able to pick up their packets at the American Heart Association office at 25 Circle Street, Suite 102 in Rochester. Tables will be set up outside the office on Tuesday, June 8, from 8 to 10 a.m. and Wednesday, June 9, from noon to 2 p.m. Please wear a mask when you arrive.

St. Joseph 4th Degree Assembly place flags for Memorial Day

The St. Joseph Assembly of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus met May 22 to place memorial flags on the graves of all the veterans in Mount Olivet Cemetery located on East Canal Road in Sweden. Faithful Navigator and leader of the Assembly, Bob Rejewski said, “It is our duty to remember those who have sacrificed so much for our country and the freedoms that we all enjoy, many of them paying the ultimate sacrifice of their lives. We will remember them this coming Monday but we need to keep them in our thoughts and prayers every day of our lives. Salmon Creek Country Club 2021 EVENING JUNIOR GOLF CAMPS The goal of this four week program is to provide your child with a positive and enjoyable golf experience. This will entail instruction on swing fundamentals, long game, short game, putting, etiquette, practice drills and safety. The program is taught by PGA Professional Gary Tatar.

Camp I: Mondays, July 12, 19, 26, Aug. 2 (Sign-up deadline July 9) Camp II: Tuesdays, August 10, 17, 24, 31 (Sign-up deadline August 7) Camp Time: 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm Instruction starts promptly at 5:30.

The camp is open to children ages 8 to 14. Camp is limited to the first 20 children. An adult is welcome to observe.

Golf is available following instruction. Children play free, however must be accompanied by an adult. If the adult plays a twilight fee is required.

Cost of the Camp is $100.

Price includes instruction, range balls.

All Camp dates will be held as scheduled.

In case of bad weather instruction will be held inside.

All Juniors will be required to have an adult present if you choose to play the golf course following the camp.
