Executive Summary: The Merrill "Swede" Carlson Westside Golf Training Center (The Swede Center) will be 1,800 square feet of dedicated indoor golf for students and community to the enjoy the use of a simulator, putting and chipping green, hitting bay, lounge area and locker room. This space will give kids K-12 within Westside Community Schools an opportunity to learn the game of golf. There will be open houses hosted by the current golf teams which will give kids of all ages the chance to engage with the team members and practice on current state-ofthe-art golf technology. When completed in summer of 2020, the Westside Golf Training Center will be the PREMIER indoor golf training center for a public high school in the United States.

Goals of the Westside Golf Training Center: • • • • • • • •

Create a one-of-a-kind indoor golf practice facility for a high school, introducing the best simulator technology with Foresight, along with a 1,000 sq ft putting and chipping area.

To provide the pre-eminent indoor golf practice facility for a high school in Omaha, the state of Nebraska and the Midwest To promote the history of Westside golf (girls and boys) – It’s extremely important to educate current and future students (and golfers) about the rich history of Westside and their golf programs.

Provide instructional opportunities for golf education for general students at the high school Introduce golf to elementary girls and boys throughout the district Provide service learning opportunities for current high school golfers to teach the game to younger kids and underserved markets in the school district Provide a tool to help attract top students to the high school (Keep students in district or attract option students into the district, which is a revenue source for the district) To continue Westside’s goal of providing “excellence” in every facet of the curriculum and extracurricular activities/facilities

Proposed Enhancements – How will these enhancements better the student-athlete/coach/teacher day to day experience?

• Dedicated Space: o The only permanent dedicated indoor golf practice facility for a public high school program in Omaha, the state of Nebraska and the Midwest. o An area where the high school golfers and coaches can call their own. Not like other high school sports, other sports have their own space to practice, store their equipment, etc. This area will provide a “home” to practice during inclement weather, in the off-season, provide a storage/locker room area for clubs, shoes, build team camaraderie like never before, etc. o This space would be secure and provide the necessary security to assure that there is no vandalism and that the student-athletes, coaches, teachers and students feel safe and appreciated that their sport is truly valued.

Mirror the technology that area golf instructors leverage in their training and provide at the college level The ability to practice year round with an indoor simulator greatly improves the chances to improve skill and understanding of the game Using a launch monitor gives the team the ability to benchmark the players game and makes a clear path to improving and what parts of their game needs improvement The device also provides golfers with the ability to play famous golf courses they usually would never be able to experience in person § 15 world-class golf courses: Experience the very best. We've handpicked the finest from our library of renowned golf courses for you - including Pebble Beach Golf Links™ and the Links at St Andrews™ The software can notify golfers if their equipment needs to be altered for their body, swing, tempo for consistency The golf simulator attracts students and athletes to the game through various games we have built into the software that might not have been interested in golfing before ForeSight Technology Breakdown – see page 3

• Golf Industry Partners and Media o This facility will provide golf industry companies/manufacturers to partner with the Westside golf program with demo clubs, putters and teaching aides o Confirmed Golf Industry Partners: § Foresight Technologies (simulator) § ForeTees Technologies (on-line scheduling) § Golftec § US Kids Golf § Manufacturers: will be connecting with various club manufacturers for demo putters § We have had some initial talks with ball manufacturers about partnering o Media § Westside will work with various media outlets when project is completed § Initial discussions with Nebraska PGA about assisting us with media release to their contacts around the country § In regards to our industry partners, we will discuss shared release opportunities highlighting their involvement in growing the game of golf (in youth and underserved communities) within a major public school district in Nebraska

The Story Behind Merrill “Swede” Carlson: Merrill Carlson (“Swede”) was born on Flag Day in 1928 and was part of what is now commonly referred to as the “greatest generation”. Merrill epitomized the characteristics of those for which the greatest generation was named by living life graciously, and with extraordinary compassion toward others.

Merrill loved all sports. First as a participant then as a fan. He and his wife, Sally, spent endless hours in the bleachers quietly cheering on their grandchildren’s activities, rarely missing a game. But of all pastimes golf was his favorite, a game filled with life lessons highlighted by the importance of friendship, respect, and above all sportsmanship. He would tell parents: “You don’t teach your kids to play golf… you teach them to love the game and the rest will take care of itself”. Merrill played golf for more than seven decades and finished strong by shooting his age every year from age 69 to 84 at the Field Club in Omaha, Nebraska where he was a longtime member. He would tell you that it was not talent that allowed him to play well, but simply his love of the game and the fellowship that it inspired.

Because of his love of the game and his compassion toward others, we are excited to pay tribute to him by establishing the Merrill “Swede” Carlson Westside Golf Training Center, or also called in short, The Swede Center. In addition, we have established the Merrill “Swede” Carlson Warrior Scholarship that will provide assistance to graduation students wishing to pursue their education.
