Whether or not you stuck to your new year’s resolutions of keeping on top of things and not letting anything get out of control, here are some tips to get you back on track and a few nifty products to get you motivated.

Feeling unorganised? By Mia Gardner

ometimes everything just gets a bit too much. You’re staring at your neverending to-do list and you just can’t quite comprehend how many things you actually need to get done. Some items on the list are things you should have done yesterday or last week or even last month. Everything is just a mess. But, hold on a second. It’s not too late. After reading this, I can guarantee you’re going to feel a surge of motivation and you’ll finally be able to put an end to all that procrastinating you’ve been doing. Whether you’re a student trying to find some kind of light at the end of the tunnel flooding with hand-ins or a busy mum on-the-go trying to do what work you can in and between picking the kids up from school, we’ve got just the thing for you.

Physically write things down

By writing down the things you need to get done whether that’s immediate to-do kind of stuff or life goals, it’s there forever. Of course, it’s not often that you’ll always have pen and paper to hand so a great alternative is any kind of notes app on your mobile phone. Most of these apps will have a search engine within them so you can easily find anything you’ve made a note about even if you can’t remember exactly what it was. Genius, right? If you aren’t already using it, you really should because you can store an infinite amount of information and know that it’s in a safe place.

Make schedules and deadlines

One of the most common issues we all encounter when trying to be our most productive selves is wasting time. By setting yourself dates for when you need to get things done by, you’ll have a better idea of how to divide the remaining time you have left to complete a task.

Regularly declutter

Find some time each week to dedicate to having a little tidy up. A tidy room really is a tidy mind and if you’re feeling sceptic, try it. With any clutter thrown away or tidied and put back in its rightful place, you can focus on powering through that to-do list with plenty of space around you.

Stay away from bargains

Now, this is an important one for when you’re out and about. It’s always so tempting to pick up extra stuff that you don’t actually need. And, the thing is, even though something may have a low price, a pound is still a pound, and the more you splurge the more you spend no matter how dear the price tag. When it comes to shopping, write down exactly what you need and only buy those items. However, there are some pretty fabulous pieces we’d recommend you treat yourself to, to accompany you on your journey to becoming a master of organisation (see next page.)

Don’t be afraid to decline offers

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try and move things around to fit in a new plan, you just don’t have the time to do it that week. Don’t feel bad for saying no to people whether it’s the offer to take on more work or a get-together you can’t really afford. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later when you’re on track and undisturbed.

Do the things you want to do least, first

I bet right now that there is something you need to do that you’ve been putting off. Ask yourself “why”? Then ask yourself “how important is it in comparison to everything else”? If your answers are along the lines of it taking a lot of effort but it is something that needs sorting out ASAP, just do it. Half the problem by making a start on it. Simple.

Get a bullet journal

If you don’t know what a bullet journal is, get your phone out right now and do a quick Google search. You’ll be met with a bunch of stunning imagery of artistic diaries. You don’t have to design yours as intricate as the #bujo pros but this is definitely a great method to become more organised and improve your productivity because you can implement certain routines to track your progress with different tasks.

Dedicate a day to chores

Yes, I know, washing, cleaning, hoovering, and sorting the recycling out are quite possibly some of the most boring things you’ll ever do but you’re kind of stuck with doing them for life – unless you win the lottery and hire a housekeeper. Oh, to be rich. But, back to the point, if you dedicate even a half a day (depending on how speedy you are) to getting all of that stuff done, you can reward yourself later with a well-deserved TV binge.

Never underestimate the power of meal prepping

Regardless of what stage you’re at in life, with meal prepping you just can’t go wrong. You could even incorporate this into your chore day. It’s a great method of preparing your lunches and dinners especially if you’re on the go and enjoy that little bit extra time in bed in the morning or lying on the sofa after work. What’s also great about this is the planning element which will make shopping easier too.

Set goals

This is the final and most important step. What better way to motivate yourself to do something than to have something to work towards? Set yourself goals and achieve them!

Westquay Top 5 Man-Proof Skincare Products

By William Hunt

With Winter well underway and Spring soon approaching, our skin is once again adapting to the weather change and lack of Vitamin D. We all know that British Spring can be pretty hit or miss weather wise, but with the random bursts of sunshine mixed with gale force winds, our skin is left confused and defeated.

Face wash can sometimes be scented which can sometimes be quite a red flag for men, however, Clinique within the last year opened up skin care for men’s range which includes facewash, exfoliators, and skin protecting moisturisers. What more could a man want? After using all 5 products your skin will be left gleaming and thanking both you and me for that little touch of TLC. All products can be found inside the John Lewis store with the beautiful team at Clinique.

1. Clinique Face Wash ÂŁ17.00

The perfect way to begin your skincare routine is to wash your hands and whack on some refreshing face wash to get deep into your pores ensuring all dirt and bacteria from the day is drawn out. Using this before a shave will also prep your skin for the most comfortable shave of your life.

2. Clinique Shaving Gel. £16.00

If you’re someone who has quite sensitive skin and enjoys a close shave, this product is perfect for you during the colder months. Is there anything worse than irritated shaving rash in the height of Winter? Fear not as the Aloe Shave Gel is designed to soften and cushion the face and beard for a smooth and close shave.

3. Clinique Face Scrub £21

It’s universal that when the weather gets colder, the skin gets drier and we end up with awkward flaky patches on our skin. Once you apply this to the skin (ensure skin is wet before application) give your face a gentle massage and rinse with some warm water and watch your skin turn from leather to silk.

4. Clinique Hydrating Gel £33.50

Now, I know you’re probably wondering, what on earth is a hydrating gel and am I wasting my money? A hydrating gel is what essentially locks the moisture into your skin and lasts up to 24 hours to ensure that when you go outside your skin isn’t going to deteriorate back into a hot mess.

5. Clinique Anti-Aging Eye Cream £31.95

Sometimes it’s hard to forget that even in the UK we still have some Winter sun lurking about, and without the sunnies ready in the car squinting and lots of facial movements occur causing deep lines around our eye area. To keep these lines under control apply some of the Anti-Aging eye cream to relax the muscles and tighten the skin.

Creams, we’ve got to give it to you! Their big Americanstyle waffles are freshly made to order. Here lies their White Kinder Bueno, Oreo and Ferroro Rocher Waffle (left) masterpiece. If you weren’t already drooling over just the idea of something sweet, we bet you are now after having seen this.

It consists of their new red velvet cookie dough, laced in rich chocolate sauce and shavings topped with fresh strawberries and a raspberry sorbet. Boost This is the healthiest option which is also just as delicious. Boost’s juices and smoothies are great for a fruity buzz. Their diverse drinks menu gives you smoothie, blended, juiced and crushed options depending on what you’re in the mood for. Their ‘All Berry Bang’ (left) is a popular favourite with strawberries, raspberries, apple juice and blackcurrant. Many of them are also gluten-free and low in fat which makes them the perfect treat if you’re on a heath kick too!

Five Guys Millie’s Cookies They also recently released a new signature range of their original cookies. They have added ‘Apple and White Chocolate’ to their collection along with ‘Red Velvet and White Chocolate’ (left). If you’ll be taking one of these home with you, why not warm it up in the oven for a minute or so too!

When it comes to desserts we know not everyone is after something super filling and that’s where Five Guy’s tasty milkshakes (left) come into play. The Spring

Tea Cleanse

As we begin to leave those frosty mornings behind, spring is fast

approaching. Hours of daylight will increase as the days get longer, while new flowers begin to bloom again, ready for the spring season. So, it’s time to ditch your morning coffee for something a little more exotic. Now would be the perfect time to consider a tea cleanse. However, we’re not saying you have to live off green juices and gluten free/fat free/dairy free foods. Just a good ol’ detox will bring you’re energy levels back up to stratch in no time. These delicious and flavoursome teas are great for anytime during the day. Not to mention their positive health benefits. Perhaps you’d like to start your morning with a cup of Peppermint tea - a light and refreshing boost for healthy digestion. However, if you prefer the sweeter things in life, try a Cranberry & Raspberry tea. Full of flavour, with a tangy hint - perfect for an afternoon cuppa.

By Eleanor Anderson

Peppermint: While peppermint tea is normally drunk for its refreshing flavour, like many other herbal teas, it contains great health benefits. ‘Mint’ is known to promote healthy digestion and in particular, peppermint is reffered to as ‘the stomach healer.’

£1.00, M&S.

Lemon & Ginger: Perfect to take in the morning, rich in antioxidants and boosts the immune system. Lemon is a citric fruit and contains vitamin C which can improve skin quality and provides a healthy digestion. Whereas ginger can be slightly over-powerring at times, however, mixed with lemon it creates a great balance between sweetness and a hint of spice.

£4.50 , Whittard Chelsea

Cranberry & Raspberry: Packed with vitamin C and E, cranberries and raspberries hold all the important nutreints for our bodies. Although cranberries have a sharp, sourness to them, paired with raspeberries makes the perfect combination of sweet and sour.

£1.70, Waitrose & Partners

‘A PLACE FOR EVERYBODY’ By Giorgia Pizzimenti

Studying abroad means experiencing a different culture and, of course, local food. Tasting local cuisine is one of the most exciting parts of living abroad, but it can cause culture shock for some. Food has a powerful role in our lives and growth. Think about how many family traditions are focused around food and recipes. Being Italian myself, food has always been an important aspect of my culture and identity. In a city like Southampton, with a vibrant international student community, Westquay South offers a good choice of stylish restaurants that attract people from different cultures and, therefore, appeal to everyone’s taste.

L’Osteria is located on level 2 in Westquay South. The restaurant offers 27 pizza options. Or rather 26, let’s not count the ‘Hawaii’ pizza, as no Italian likes pizza with pineapple. One of the restaurant’s specialties is splitting the pizza in two halves so you can add different toppings. I find it a genius idea, because you get to try two different flavours for the price of one. Nevertheless, there are no restaurants in Italy that would do this. I ordered a pizza half Margherita (tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil) and the other half Prosciutto e Funghi (ham, mushrooms and cheese). I only waited 20 minutes for the pizza, but the wait was worth it. The pizza was 18 inches big, larger than the plate itself! Indeed, I couldn’t finish it, so they packed it up for me to take home. To go with the pizza, I ordered a Peroni beer. Classic Italian. Is there any better combo? I was definitely satisfied with my pizza, which cost me only £9.85. Even cheaper and tastier than Domino’s. L’Osteria is definitely Italian approved, so whenever you want to enjoy a good pizza this is the right place to go, or if you want to order it from home, Deliveroo options are also available.

Franco Manca is located on level 3 in Westquay South. If you are a pizza lover, this is another place you should try! There were 7 pizzas to chose between, with a true Italian taste. For a moment it felt like being back at home. The dough is made fresh everyday with seasonal ingredients. They also offer vegan and gluten free options for people with dietary needs. Despite the fact they don’t sell Italian beer, they had a good selection of Italian wines. My usual order is the classic Italian pizza, Margherita (romato sauce, mozzarella and basil). Can you guess the price? £6.55. Unbelievable, right? If you want a relaxing pizza night at home you can order and collect it at the restaurant, or choose the delivery option for only £3.29.

What’s important when trying traditional food from your country abroad, is going to the restaurant without any prejudices. You will like it!

Electrifiying New Fiction You Won’t Want To Miss Fulfil your book-buying addiction with sparkling debuts and a first look at a Netflix phenomenon Do you ever have those moments where you sink into some of your deepest thoughts and find yourself thinking about what you really want in life? But then you snap out of it and continue to endlessly scroll through Instagram and Facebook just waiting for something to grab your attention. And even your very phone itself is trying to hint to you to do something better with your time by scaring you with a weekly screen time report that in fact reveals you pick it up every 10 minutes. Maybe it’s time to take a break. Instead, feed your soul with culture and inspiration. One book could be all you need. by Mia Gardner

Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes Following on from the Netflix series, You, that accidentally left a few too many fans lusting over its serial killer protagonist, the wait for the sequel is finally over. Part two is already here. The deliciously insane story follows NYC book store manager Joe Goldberg, a confusingly hot stalker, who flees to L.A with hopes to move on. And it’s not long before he can’t help desiring and obsessing over someone new. He swears it’s different this time, but we all know how persuasive he can be. (Available in Waterstones now).

Saltwater by Jessica Andrews A beautiful new voice in literary fiction tells the story of student, Lucy, who’s world is turned upside down when she makes the move from Sunderland to London after winning a place at university. The book explores different kinds of love that can be hard to define, the harsh realities of shifting class identity in the modern world and one very complex motherdaughter relationship. Upon graduation, Lucy seeks solace in her late Grandfather’s Irish cottage. But will it help her piece her life back together? (Available in Waterstones May 2019).

Falling Short by Lex Coulton Sometimes in life, the only way to get things right is to – unfortunately – get them a little or a lot wrong first. No one knows this better than Frances Pilgrim who’s thirty-nine, stuck in a sixth-form teaching job, failing to hold down a boyfriend, losing important things on the daily, and still wondering why her dad went missing when she was five. Her mother is developing Alzheimer’s and she could really do with someone to talk to. Perhaps fellow teacher and love interest Jackson could be of some help but things got awkward last summer. Just what is she going to do? (Available in Waterstones July 2019).

The Mister by EL James The iconic author of Fifty Shades of Grey is releasing a stimulating new love story set in England. From the heart of London through to the rural wilderness of Cornwall featuring a mysterious trip to the forbiddingly beautiful Balkans, you’ll be taken on an unforgettable journey. A perfect night-time read following Maxim Trevelyan – a young man with aristocratic connections whose life completely transforms when he inherits a tonne of new responsibilities along with an overwhelming desire for the beautiful Alessia Demachi with a more than troublesome past. (Available in Waterstones April 2019).

Family Friendly Films by Jim Weller

For Disney fans there’s plenty coming up as they continue their live action remakes with three classics. Dumbo (29th March) gives a whole new spin on the lovable elephant with oversized ears. Aladdin (24th May) sees Will Smith take up the mantle of the Genie of the Lamp. The Lion King (19th July) brings the heroic tale to a whole new generation. Some kids’ favourites are due to hit the big screen this year! Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (10th May) gives a voice to the most well-known of the Pokémon. Horrible Histories gets the big screen treatment in Horrible Histories: The Movie (26th July). Artemis Fowl (9th August) is an adaptation of the well-liked novel of the same name. Playmobil: The Movie (9th August) has the popular toy brand in a new adventure. Even early years favourite Dora the Explorer gets a live action film this year (16th August). Those who love animation will not feel left out, with some big releases coming. Missing Link (5th April) is an original stop motion animation from the studio that brought us Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings. The Secret Life of Pets 2 (24th May) is the long-awaited sequel to the 2016 film. And a real family favourite gets its fourth instalment when Toy Story 4 (21st June) is released.

With Easter break, half term and the Summer holidays coming up it’s time to start thinking about how to keep the children entertained. With a variety of films being released over the next few months, Showcase Cinema de Lux, in Westquay South, is an excellent destination for a couple of hours distraction.

Pra g u e Explore the mystical sites of the city on a spring getaway.

pring is approaching, and that yearly travel itch is becoming undeniable. If you’ve got a springtime travel itch to satisfy then why not head over to West Quay and glance over the Prague city breaks on offer. Prague is a great sight to behold during any season, but there is something fresh and revitalising about a city break to Prague in the Spring. From its narrow winding streets to the cradling arms of the Castle that protect the city from the harsh European weather, Prague really should be at the top of your Spring getaway list. Franz Kafka, Prague’s well-known literary legend enjoyed nothing more than writing a novel in this lovely city, take a trip there and you’ll see why.

On a fresh morning, travel through the city on a tram and submerse yourself in the beauty of the stunning styles of architecture in Prague old town. Lose yourself in the towering gothic churches as the clouds roll in and you find yourself in what feels like the set of a 1950s horror. Or take in the beauty of the renaissance buildings as you imagine the streets from 500 years ago. The castle itself holds the title

of the biggest castle in the world, and its true beauty can be explored to a great extent before the sweltering heat of the European summer time hits. With its variations of architecture and its stunning views of the city, this truly is a spring wonder of Prague. But, if the cobbled streets are becoming too strenuous and you find yourself desperate for a break, then fear not. For the streets of Prague are paved with silver linings; coffee. Slip your way into a cosy coffee shop and allow a rich Czech blend to eliminate your worries.

Of course, markets fill the streets of many a city in the nearing Summer months, and Prague is no exception. From beautiful hand-crafted creations to tasty treats to take back home, Prague’s markets should not be missed. And if you’re all shopped out by the end you can finish the day off with an infamous Czech beer… or two seeing as they’re so reasonably priced. Spring evenings in Prague, bring great wonder and opportunity. With the enigmatic streets alive with the energy of the parading passers-

by and the warm evenings set aglow by the orange glimmer of shop windows, there really is no better time for an infamous city ghost tour. As you make your way around the city of Prague on one of these tours, you will learn all about those less fortunate than you. Their spirits still making their solemn way through the cavities of the city like lost souls on a journey that never quite reach their destination. From the screaming patients of the old abandoned

hospital to the tormented spirit of the dead convent girl, you’re sure to be shivering by the end. No trip to Prague, Spring or not, would be complete without trying one of the cities Trdelník’s (Chimney cakes). These scrumptious pastries have been taking over Instagram feeds all over the world for quite some time now. The good news? They originated in Prague. The warm doughnut like cones can be filled with your choice of filling from icecream to apple strudel so you’re bound to find one that you’ll find delicious. The most wonderful thing about a Spring break to Prague is the relaxed nature. Take a wander and explore the city, you’ll find so many beautiful things. Beers by the river, or watch from the Charles Bridge as the Spring sun dances off the water. Prague really is a must for those desperate to escape the UK. Check out some of the cheap flights and hotel deals available at Thomas Cook on Level 2 at West Quay and get your spring break underway.
