ABOUT US Westover is a fully-accredited addiction treatment centre located in beautiful Thamesville, Ontario.

We are leaders in abstinence-based residential treatment for addiction to alcohol and other substances. Founded in 1986 by a group of individuals affected by addiction, we value quality care and holistic services. Our classic charm and relaxed country setting is the perfect place for your healing and transformation.

Substance Dependence Program, 2011

Our treatment program is strategically designed to equip individuals to live substance-free. Each phase of recovery provides tools and motivation to maintain abstinence long after you leave us.

Phase 1: Assessment, Stabilization, Intake • Initial interview to determine stabilization needs and provide assessment locations

Phase 2: In residence Note: medical personnel are available on an on-call basis

• Blend of cognitive behavioural models and group therapy, along with the 12-step teachings • Examine personal values and learn disciplined lifestyle habits

Phase 3: aftercare

• Prepare a plan for life free of substances

• Local Recovery Support (aftercare sessions) for ongoing support • Reinforces residential program material • Available in many locations across Southwestern Ontario

Phase 4: Follow-up • Follow up communication at one, six, and 12-month marks

co-dependence Program

7 days

Am I a co-dependent? It’s an important question to ask when a loved one is facing addiction. Our co-dependency program is designed for friends and family who have been affected by another person’s addiction.

Phase 1: Intake and Assessment • Initial interview and individual assessment • Telephone interview • Intake to program (offered for seven days, 2X a month)

Phase 3: aftercare • local aftercare sessions for family and friends (available across Southwestern Ontario)

Phase 2: In Residence • Skills training on assertiveness, communication, defence mechanisms, and anger management

Phase 4: Follow-up • Detailed survey at six-month mark

relapse prevention & stage-two recovery program 7 days

Our newest program is a proactive approach to relapse prevention and is designed for the second stage of recovery. It’s open to anyone who has previously completed a residential rehabilitation program.

Phase 1:Intake and Assessment • Initial assessment • Phone interview • Enroll in local aftercare sessions

Phase 2: In residence • Refresh lifestyle skills and insights into maintaining sobriety

Phase 3: Recovery Support Sessions • Local aftercare sessions for ongoing support & an intensive review on residential program material

Weekend Family Program • Two weekend residential sessions for friends and family affected by someone’s addiction* • Structured classroom settings as well as relaxed group discussions from 10 am to 4 pm • Provided at no cost to family and friends of a client in residence • Entitled to attend Recovery Support at any of the locations in Southwestern Ontario

4th and 5th Step Weekends • Weekend residential sessions for Co-Dependence program alumni • Refreshes continuing recovery

* For privacy reasons, guests must be invited by the client 28

Addiction Assistant Services •

Our counsellors are available 24/7 to all Ontario residents via phone for crisis, counselling, information on community services, and intervention

My First Day at Westover We know it’s an emotional day for most.

We want you to feel at ease and confident in your decision to seek treatment. Here’s what a typical first day with us looks like.

MORNING After saying goodbye to your ride, we’ll show you your room and introduce you to your new roommates. As a common procedure, you’ll provide a sample for a drug screening test. You’ll then store away your luggage after a standard inspection. Enjoy a cup of coffee while you fill out some paperwork.

Curriculum content? Class schedules? It’s time for orientation.

We’ll provide you with an educational binder to get you started. This is a great opportunity to bring up your questions with our program director.

You’ll also have the chance to meet your classmates.

Afternoon Grab some lunch and take a break. After some free time, we’ll give you a tour of the grounds. You can check out all our amenities including a small exercise gym and a multi-purpose auditorium where volleyball games happen regularly. Next, you’ll get to meet other residents and some of the counsellors to share a little bit about yourself in a relaxed group setting.

After a quick coffee break, join in for a volleyball game before dinner starts.

Evening At 5 pm the entire group gets together for a delicious dinner prepared by our skilled staff. Enjoy some light conversation with your peers.

Afterwards, head to the classroom for a more detailed session on house rules and what you’ll experience while staying with us. Once class wraps up, enjoy some free time and an evening meditation.

We’ll turn in at 11 pm. Lights out!

It won’t be long before Westover will start to feel like family. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

admissions Here’s what you need to know for program enrollment.

General requirements: • At least 16 years old at the time of admissions • Free of substances for a min. of 2 weeks before admissions • Meet our client medical guidelines (contact us for details)

Substance Dependence Program - 19 Days: • Weekly admissions • Assessed by an assessment and referral agency as having a substance abuse problem that is appropriate for residential treatment* • Interested in seeking abstinence • Must be free of alcohol for seven days and free of other substances for 14 days (Rx medicines excluded speak to intake worker for restrictions)

Residential Co-Dependence Program - 7 Days: • Open to men and women from across Ontario ages 18+ • Willingness to learn and change • One year of sobriety before attending (if also an addict) • Some government funded beds are available

Relapse Prevention & Recovery Program - 7 Days: • Previously completed a residential treatment program • Has attended recovery support, 12-step meetings, or private counselling since finishing the residential program • Experiencing life challenges with maintaining sobriety • At least six months of life experience since leaving treatment *only required if seeking government funded payment

Fees & Accommodations OPTION A – Independent Admission • Meet general admission requirements • Minimal waitlist • Employers or insurance companies may also cover cost • On-site assessment

OPTION B - Funded Admission • Meet general admission requirements including referral agency assessment for the 19-day substance use program • Waitlist times: 4-6 weeks for Substance Dependence, 4-6 weeks for Co-Dependence, and 4-8 weeks for Relapse Prevention & Stage-Two Recovery • Funding is provided by Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (LHIN)
