2022 Chamber Annual Award Winners

And the Winner is!

Westmoreland County! On October 13th the Chamber held their 2022 Chamber Leadership Awards at the Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our outstanding fellow business leaders. This edition recognizes all the award winners from the fantastic event.

Not for Profit of the Year

Feeding the Spirit

The Not for Profit of the Year Award is given to an organization in Westmoreland County that provides outstanding service to residents throughout the county and that continually demonstrates community involvement.

This year’s winner, Feeding the Spirit, is a non profit group dedicated to nourishing the bodies, minds, and spirits of those in need in

Westmoreland County. They believe every individual deserves to have food and safe shelter. Through its mission, the organization helps people break through poverty, homelessness, and hunger barriers through crisis management and transitional resources while instilling hope and dignity.

Each day, they offer emergency services to families and individuals facing homelessness or eviction. And each Thursday, Feeding the Spirit’s team of dedicated volunteers serves meals and offers assorting living essentials at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Greensburg. They’ve already served more than 60,000 meals in 2022. And last year, they provided a total of 710 nights in hotel rooms and offered 219 families rent assistance.

Member of the Year Laura Edgerly Designs

Awarded to an active member of the Westmoreland County Chamber who consistently fosters membership and development for the Chamber, the Member of the Year Award is

given to an individual who participates in numerous committees or events, and is creative in promoting and supporting the Chamber’s vision.

Laura Edgerly, this year’s winner, founded her freelance design studio in January 2014. She bases her work on the concept that designers bring art and beauty to everyday experiences. She uses art to solve problems for her clients, helping them communicate their messages in new and exciting ways.

As part of her business model, her studio offers agency quality design to Westmoreland County businesses at an affordable price. Since many area small businesses don’t have budgets or the need to support major marketing campaigns, this helps them increase awareness and interest in their organizations. And by keeping her rates lower than big ad agencies in the city, she also helps small businesses in the area exponentially increase their marketing ROI.

Defining Disruptive Leadership is the New Normal

There wasn’t a single business or person that was prepared when the COVID 19 pandemic wreaked havoc back in 2020. This global health emergency caused massive disruptions across all industries and even pushed some of them to the brink of collapse. In fact, an economic report published during the peak of the COVID 19 onslaught stated that over 160,000 businesses in the U.S. were forced to close due to the pandemic.

The best way to counter a massive disruption caused by the pandemic is to be a disruptive leader yourself! Disruptive leadership means that you are always looking for better solutions to your problems and searching for ways to innovate your organization’s products, services, and processes. Instead of going along with the norm, disruptive leaders always ask themselves: how can I make this better? Since you are now responsible for leading your business or organization to success during these precarious times, you should strive to be a leader of innovation. Being a disruptive leader is crucial for your business’s survival and future success post pandemic.

As I enter my second year as your President/CEO, I had the privilege and opportunity to gain a tremendous amount of

ATHENA® Award Recipient: Dr. Carol Fox

The ATHENA Award is given to an individual who has achieved the highest level of professional excellence, contributes time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community, and actively assists others, particularly women, in realizing their full leadership potential.

This year’s winner, Dr. Carol Fox, has 30 years of experience as a family physician in group practice in southwestern Pennsylvania and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She leads Excela Health’s quality and safety efforts, serving as the Chief Medical Officer for Excela Health and the Executive Medical Director of the Excela Health Medical Group.

information and knowledge through our members, our industries and throughout our communities. The Chamber will continue to host a handful of the traditional events that our members have come to love, but we plan to introduce new initiatives, new programs and new events in 2023 that any business of any size can benefit from. This will directly correlate with our new 5 Plan, which will be communicated to our members and throughout our region during our first quarter of 2023.

As we continue to see the world, but most importantly our own county, push forward under challenging economic times, the Chamber must continue an aggressive approach through disruptive leadership to ensure that everyone from our small business owners to our larger corporations continue to obtain the competitive edge through effective representation, communication and more information at many levels. The status quo may work for some and it’s certainly a comfortable spot for many, but staying content won’t help us grow! Stay tuned for more information on our Strategic Plan, which will introduce the one thing that is always constant and that’s CHANGE!

Business of the Year: Live! Casino

Awarded to an outstanding business in the county dedicated to community involvement, The Business of the Year Award recognizes an organization that promotes job growth, employee retention, and is committed to the growth and promotion of Westmoreland County.

Live! Casino, this year’s winner, serves as a transformational leader in creating maximum community benefits for Hempfield Township and Westmoreland County and area residents. They have provided apprenticeship and training programs in addition to offering construction and vendor opportunities for local businesses, including local minority , women , and veteran owned businesses.

She’s also a member of the Chief Medical Officers Collaborative, which worked closely throughout the pandemic to share information across healthcare providers and with the public. During the pandemic, she became an important voice in Westmoreland County for vital medical information with regular briefings to civic and government leaders.

Their marketing partnerships with area sports teams, businesses, and attractions promote local communities as well, attracting thousands of new visitors to the area with enhanced dining and entertainment amenities. Already the casino generates more than $188 million in annual economic impact along with supporting 500 permanent new jobs.

Again, congratulations to this year’s winners. And thank you to all the remarkable nominees for their countless contributions to making Westmoreland County such a great place to live, learn, work, and play.

Who is Permitted to Display Messages on the LED Billboard?

Messages may be sponsored only by members of the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce to promote their business or upcoming events. At its sole discretion, the Westmoreland County Chamber reserves the right to deny messages determined to be in conflict with the Chamber’s Mission, Vision, and Values or in conflict with the general standards of good taste in our community The following message types are prohibited: messages containing promotion of candidates for political office; religious messages that aim to overtly proselytize; or messages that promote violence, illicit drugs, or alcohol.

How Many People See the LED Billboard Each Day?

Traffic estimates report that 38,000 cars each day travel on Route 30 outside the Chamber's office, where the LED Billboard is located

How Many Times Each Day is a Message Displayed?

The LED Board is operational 24 hours a day. The specific number of times a message is displayed is determined by the total number of messages in the rotation. A rule of thumb is that there will be no more than eight (8) separate messages per one minute rotation That means message sponsors can expect their message to be displayed roughly 1,400 times each day or at least once each minute

The Westmoreland County Chamber must receive artwork a minimum of seven (7) days prior to the day you want your message to begin being displayed. Messages should be designed to fit 384 pixels wide by 192 pixels tall. Generally speaking a 2:1 design ratio works in most cases The Westmoreland County Chamber reserves the right to make minor modifications to message content in order to improve the display and readability. Design assistance is available Ask the Chamber for details

We prefer to receive artwork in JPG format The message board can display full color images. Using BOLD colors with large images and limited text tends to be the most impactful way for viewers to see your message

Why Use D-Bug Waterproofing? Why Do Basements Leak? How To Remedy a Basement Leak with Interior French Drain Installation of an interior french drain relieves hydrostatic water pressure at the base of the foundation and under the basement floor. The french drain itself will eliminate water seepage under the footer, where the block touches the footer and it drains the water out of the foundation by applying weep holes to the block. 1) How many years in business .......................... 80 yrs. 2) Reference list...........................................................
