Volunteer profile

The Muslim Pilgrimage

Colin Vidal, 34, lives in Paddington and is the Lead Volunteer and Stage Manager for the Paddington Festival. “I’ve been a volunteer at Paddington Arts for nine years. I’ve been involved a lot longer as a performer from the age of seven when I was a scrawny little boy pretending to do drama. I was re-introduced to Paddington Arts through a friend, and have since been doing dance, drama, singing and steel pans, a bit of everything.

“My festival tip is to get involved. Whether you are sitting down watching and listening or taking part in an event or a workshop, simply get involved.” “I think I commit more to Paddington Arts than my own job. I do nine to five at my job and then I am at Paddington Arts from 6-9pm on Mondays to Thursdays and Fridays if there is an event like Milkshake Disco. If there’s a weekend event I am also involved. “My role at the festival is to ensure we have the right equipment for each location, construct the dance stage or platform, set up the seating areas, manage a team of volunteers and organise the sound equipment. “I first got involved in the festival as a performer, playing steel pans in Little Venice in 2009 and on the Harrow Road in 2011. This year I’m looking forward to just seeing what people bring to the table. Within Paddington you never know what you’re going to get, and it’s always going to be different. “My festival tip is to get involved. Whether you are sitting down watching and listening or taking part in an event or a workshop, simply get involved.”
