Academic IELTS Preparation Course

At West London English School, we fully prepare you for the International Testing System (IELTS) test so that you can achieve your target score. Our teachers have designed the course specifically to provide you with the essential tools, preparation and practice you need to succeed. On our IELTS course, you will learn exam startegies and techniques in order for you to pass each part of the test.

The four parts of the exam are: SPEAKING, LISTENING, READING and WRITING

WHO IS THE IELTS PREPARATION COURSE FOR?

Many of our students need to take the IELTS to study in higher education or maybe because they are professionals in a particular field (such as medicine) who want to practice in the UK. You can also use IELTS for visa applications and migration purposes.

DURINGTHE COURSE YOUWILL

• Use a coursebook, which changes each term, and an exam practice book of past papers.

• Learn techniques to help you in all parts of the exam. These include: note-taking, skimming and scanning texts at high speed, writing academic reports and essays, speaking with fluency and confidence and expanding your academic vocabulary.

• Take part in class activities, group work, pair work and individual work to help with the test.

• Have one to one tutorials with your teacher to assess your progress and set regular learning targets.

• Be given homework every lesson to include practice at home.

base cost: £110 per week (when you book four weeks or more, the weekly cost will be lower).This also includes access to our online learning platform. Students studying longer than one week are required to buy the coursebook, which costs £20.There are two of these per term.

How can I book my IELTS test?

You can book your test online at https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/locations/united-kingdom.You will need ID (passport or identity card) and a credit/debit card to book.The closest test centre to West London English School is Ealing and Hammersmith West London College.The price for IELTS varies depending on the Test Provider. Do I need the IELTS or can I take a different exam? There are many different English exams, which can be confusing.

You always get a certificate no matter how high or low your score is because every learner takes the same test, no matter your level.

Validity of certificate

The certificate is only valid for 2 years.After 2 years, you will need to take the exam again.

Purpose

If you want a certificate to help you into further study or for visa purposes, IELTS is the best exam for you.

You only get a certificate if you pass the exam as each is specific to a level e.g. C1 Advanced is for C1-C2. However, if you fail the exam but still get a B2 level, you will receive a certificate saying you have B2 level.

ISE is available at five levels from A2 to C2 on the Common European Framework (CEFR), so there is a level for every learner.You do not receive a certificate if you fail the exam.

The certificate is valid for life so you do not need to do the exam again to prove your level of English, even if it is 10 years since you took the test.

How is IELTS marked?

The IELTS is scored from 1.0-9.0, 1.0 being the lowest and 9.0 being the highest.

How much time do I need to prepare for my test?

Your progress in IELTS depends on your level when you start your course and the level you wish to achieve. In general, we advise 8-10 weeks intensive study to increase your score by 0.5 band, for example from 6 to 6.5.Your progress also depends on how much English you speak outside of the class and how much homework you do.

What is IELTS UKVI?

IELTS UKVI is used for visa purposes. It is the same as the Academic IELTS exam but must be applied for separately.You can find which score you need here depending on the kind ofVISA you need: https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/ielts-ukvi/score

How much does the exam cost?

The price for IELTS in 2019 is £160, although the price varies from one exam centre to another. This fee is not included in your course fees at West London English School and is payable when you apply for the exam.

When will I receive my results?

You receive your IELTS results approximately 3 weeks after your exam date.

How long does the exam take?

Registration starts at 8:30am and the listening, reading and writing papers last between approximately 9:15-13:00.The speaking is taken in the afternoon and happens at a scheduled time between 14:00 -19:00.Therefore, you should keep the whole day free for the exam.
