Attendance & Punctuality

Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. It's as simple as that! It's crucial that we keep our attendance above 90% AND most importantly we communicate to the college when we cant attend and why. Physically being present and on time is one of the most basic conditions of success, and the first building block needed for academic achievement.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women The 25th November is The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This date has been observed by Women's rights activists since 1981 in honour of the Mirabal sisters; three political activists from the Dominican Republic who were brutally murdered by order of the country’s ruler. On 20 December 1993, the General Assembly adopted this date to be the official day to raise awareness about violence against women and girls. The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women also marks the start of 16 day campaign known as the UNiTE to End Violence against Women. It aims to raise public awareness around the issue as well as increase both policymaking and resources dedicated to ending violence against women and girls worldwide. Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it, nearly 1 in 3 women have been abused in their lifetime. In general terms, it manifests itself in physical, sexual and psychological forms, encompassing: intimate partner violence (battering, psychological abuse, marital rape, femicide); sexual violence and harassment (rape, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, street harassment, stalking, cyberharassment); human trafficking (slavery, sexual exploitation); female genital mutilation; and child marriage. To raise awareness, this year's theme is "Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!". Orange is our color to represent a brighter future free of violence against women and girls. Be part of the orange movement! Here at West London College we have partnered with an external organisation who work with women who are survivors of domestic violence to provide them with a pamper package via our Hair and Beauty department. They have been given vouchers that they can come in and exchange for a number of hair and beauty treatments. For more information visit www.un.org/en/observances/ending-violence-againstwomen-day

International Day of People with Disabilities International Day of People with Disabilities is a special time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities and increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance. It also aims to promote full and equal participation and to take action for the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of society and development. This annual celebration takes place on 3rd December and this year's theme ‘‘Fighting for rights in the post-COVID era.” focuses on celebrating the challenges, barriers and opportunities for people who live with disabilities, in the context of a global pandemic. This year the day is being used to recognise that people who live with disabilities are among the most affected populations amid the COVID pandemic. Where marginalisation, discrimination, vulnerability and exploitation are every day factors for many people, due to reduced access to routine health care and rehabilitation services, more pronounced social isolation, poorly tailored public health messaging, inadequately constructed mental health services, and a lack of emergency preparedness for people with special needs. According to the WHO World Report on Disability, 15% of the world’s population, or more than 1 billion people, are living with disability. Of this number, it’s estimated 450 million are living with a mental or neurological condition. This is a reminder of the importance of removing barriers for all people living with disability, both visible and invisible. For more information please visit https://idpwd.org/

World Aids Day

World AIDS Day takes place on 1 December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day. For more information please visit www.worldaidsday.org
