Westfield A ea YMCA Summer Day Camps

provide safe, engaging, fun and meaningful camp experiences with enriching activities, fitness, and social and emotional learning for children ages 3-15.

Campers enjoy a variety of activities and themes every day with friends and peers exploring math, science, arts, sports, nature and global diversity. Our curriculum promotes teamwork, enhances self-esteem and builds skills while incorporating the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Our staff receive over 20 hours of pre-camp training including certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid with EpiPen administration, asthma inhaler training, anti-bullying prevention, behavior management, child abuse awareness and much more. We also have a full time first responder on staff for summer camp.

Our camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and meet up to 300 standards for health, safety and program quality.

DEPOSITS AND PAYMENTS

MEDICAL FORMS

• Deposit: $100 per session. ($20 for Before care and After care) • Payment: Balance is due April 10 for weeks 1-4 and May 10 for weeks 5-9. In-person registration balances will be automatically charged to the credit card provided for deposit unless arrangements are made in advance to pay by cash, check or a different credit card. For online registrations, a Y staff member will contact you for payment as credit card information for online deposits is not stored. Unpaid balances after the due date are considered a cancellation—deposit is forfeited, and registration is canceled.

• Waitlist: A deposit is not required if being put on a waitlist.

• Late pick-up fee: $20 for every 15 minutes after camp end time.

CHANGES OR CANCELLATIONS

• Requests for changes and cancellations must be in writing and emailed to: camp@westfieldynj.org.

• Changes are permitted up to two weeks prior to session without a change fee. There is a $25 fee per change if made within two weeks of a camp start date.

• Canceling any week of camp follows the policy below: • On or before February 29: Option of refund (less 5% service fee) or full amount in Y credits.

• March 1- April 30: Option of refund (less 5% service fee) or Y credit. Both refund/credit options exclude the session deposit.

• May 1- June 9: If your spot can be filled, you will receive Y credit (excluding deposit) for that week of camp. NO REFUNDS AFTER APRIL 30.

• Deposits are non-refundable after February 29.

• Membership fees are non-refundable.

• Deposits are not transferable to siblings or other programs.

• All refunds are charged a 5% service fee.

• Y credits expire one year from the date issue and may be used by any family member.

We believe in serving the needs of all members of our community including those who may be unable to pay the full cost of membership or programs.

MEMBERSHIP

Most camps are only available to Westfield Area Y members.

The camper’s membership must be active at the time of registration and through the duration of camp(s) registered for. Fees are fixed according to membership category at the time of registration and will stay the same regardless of a category change during the camp season.

A non-member may register for a total of one week of specialty camps at the non-member fee. Family category members have access to priority registration, receive the lowest camp fees, and have full membership privileges.

Develop friendships and build skills through inquiry, exploration, and fun weekly-themed activities in this air-conditioned location. Young campers are introduced to the camp experience with outdoor playground time, water play, arts & crafts, camp sing-a-longs, games, and guest performances. Campers must be at least 3 years old at the start of the session and toilet trained. The 3-day session is Tuesday-Thursday.

INCLUSION CAMP PROGRAM Offered weeks 2-8

Camp is fun for everyone! At the Westfield Area Y, we believe camp should be inclusive, providing as many opportunities as possible for children to join in the camp fun. The Inclusion Camp Program helps us to achieve this goal by operating within the traditional Y camps each summer. Each camper who qualifies is matched with an aide who is able to provide support as needed throughout the camp day. Some examples of modifications/ accommodations our aides are able to provide are:

Discover the adventures of summer camp in an indoor air-conditioned facility. Campers experience the summer in a fun and supportive environment with skilled and nurturing staff. Each week offers a new theme to investigate through exciting activities and special projects including arts and crafts, science, team building, group games, outdoor fun, recreational swim, and a special event or trip.

It’s like walking on sunshine at camp! This fun and educationally structured environment encourages exploration time through centers and outside discovery. The development of children’s self-esteem and their social-emotional learning are reinforced and expanded throughout the day. Each week we explore a different theme that comes alive through art and science projects, games, and activities. Sunshine also includes sports, team building, themed dress-up days, playground time, and much more. Campers and staff travel by bus to the Main Y Facility for instructional swim and/or recreational swim. Plus, there is a weekly special event or trip!

Make new friends, be creative, and try new things for one week or all summer long! This outdoor-based camp experience is located at the Centennial Pool and Cranford YMCA allowing opportunities for recreational swim more than once a day. We also have a designated outdoor space for games and activities as well as an indoor space if the weather rains on our parade. Each week campers explore different themes that come alive through fun and engaging activities, games, and arts & crafts. Cranford residents who are not Westfield Area YMCA members should contact the Welcome Center directly to register.

This is an active camp that allows children to explore the wilderness that is around them. Pack your sunscreen and bug spray, we love the sunshine and fresh air that the Watchung Reservation has to offer! We experience the great outdoors through hikes, compass activities, animal watching, and just playing in the dirt. Other activities include traditional sports, team-building games, creative art projects, and S.T.E.A.M. projects. Use of the Loop Playground and Trailside Museum are incorporated into the weekly schedule.

Recreational swim is at the Main Y. Grey skies and rain never ruin Blue Sky, we simply bring the fun to an indoor space! Each week features an exciting special event or trip.

This outdoor-based camp experience is located at the Centennial Pool and Cranford YMCA allowing opportunities for recreational swim more than once a day. We also have a designated outdoor space for games and activities as well as an indoor space if the weather rains on our parade. Each week campers explore different themes that come alive through fun and engaging activities, games, and arts & crafts. This is an active camp that allows children to explore the wilderness that is around them. Pack your sunscreen and bug spray, we love the sunshine and fresh air that the Watchung Reservation has to offer! We experience the great outdoors through hikes, compass activities, animal watching, and just playing in the dirt. Other activities include traditional sports, team-building games, creative art projects, and S.T.E.A.M. projects. Use of the Loop Playground and Trailside Museum are incorporated into the weekly schedule.

CITs learn and experience what it takes to be role models and leaders while making a meaningful difference in the lives of their campers. CITs spend two weeks immersed in at least two of the Y’s younger camps. They are coached throughout the day to prepare and lead activities and have the opportunity to reflect on their performance, discuss areas of improvement, and develop their own creativity and initiative. CITs learn behavioral management techniques, how to properly facilitate activities, create schedules, and develop interpersonal and communication skills. This camp is great for teens who enjoy working with children and/or aspire to careers in childcare or child development. CIT campers also swim two times per week and enjoy a trip or special event once per week.

Introducing the mode of railroad transportation through the lens of STEM. Campers will be exposed to railway transportation technology through experimental learning and hands-on activities. Build your own train tracks and test them with a train you made. Be a conductor and drive a train through a simulation experience.
