700FD Quick Reference Guide Belt Speed Adjust

Adjustments

Draper belt speed adjust allows the operator to increase or decrease the belt speed .

Draper Ground Engagement Angle The HydraFlex™ Draper engagement angle is designed for optimum performance on your combine . It is recommended that the factory feeder house fore/aft tilt frame setting be used . If adjustments are desired, refer to your combine Operator’s Manual for proper instructions .

1 . Press the Header application button and select the belt speed section .

2 . To increase or decrease the belt speed, touch the plus (+) or minus (-) symbol or rotate the selection dial .

3 . Display shows the operator adjustment settings .

IMPORTANT: Excessive rearward tilt may result in frame assembly being pushed into the ground, causing material accumulation in the float system components.

Quick Side Belt Speed Reduction Switch

Excessive forward tilt may result in the cutterbar pushing the crop.

When crop is harvested on one side of the platform due to irregular shaped fields, slowing the side draper belts speed enhances the feeding performance .

Hydraulic Feeder House Fore/Aft Tilt Adjust (if Equipped)

Side belt speed reduction switch allows the speed of the draper belt to automatically slow to a factory setpoint speed .

Hydraulic feeder house fore/aft tilt adjust allows the operator to increase or decrease the angle of the feeder house tilt frame enhancing the cutting performance .

1 . Press the side belt speed reduction button (A) on the multi-function lever .

System Requirements: • Engine is running .

• Road transport disconnect button must be disengaged .

2 . Slow Speed Mode Engaged appears on the display and the draper belt speed automatically slows to the factory setpoint speed .

3 . Pressing the belt speed reduction switch again or attempting to make manual belt speed adjustments while in slow speed mode automatically returns belt speed to the original speed set by the operator .

• Multi-function lever reconfigurable buttons are functionally assigned and unlocked (B) .

NOTE: If the original draper belt speed set by the operator is slower than the factory setpoint speed, the system will not engage and a diagnostic trouble code appears.

On-Screen

1 . To adjust the angle of the feeder house tilt frame touch plus (+) or minus (-) symbol or rotate the selection dial .

See your John Deere dealer if the factory setpoint speed needs adjusted.

- Increase tilts feeder house tilt frame angle forward .

Required Draper Belt Tension Setting

- Decrease tilts feeder house tilt frame angle rearward .

2 . Display shows operator adjustment settings .

Critical: On the 730FD only, the idler belt tensioning bolt should be even with the outside shield .

Multi-Function Lever

• Reconfigurable buttons (C) or (D) can be configured to control hydraulic fore/aft .

• Push and hold front of switch (C) or (D) to tilt feeder house forward .

• Push and hold back of switch (C) or (D) to tilt feeder house rearward .

Reel Replacement/Reel Finger Adjustment

For flex draper platforms, there are three unique Active Header Height Control (AHHC) modes:

Recommended reel position is directly over the cutterbar, and only low enough so that the lower portion of the reel fingers engage the crop (not the tube) .

• On-Ground (“flex mode”) – soybeans, lentils, chickpeas • Off-Ground (“rigid mode”), auxiliary attachment – wheat, barley, oats, Canola • On-Ground (“hybrid mode”) – On-Ground and OffGround AHHC are selected . AHHC resume button 2 is Off-Ground, AHHC resume button 3 is On-Ground (“hybrid mode”)

Rule of Thumb: Out and Up!

Float arm brackets may be reinstalled for operating in off-ground mode after the feeder house speed calibration and header calibration has been completed .

Reel finger pitch is adjustable . Adjustment levers are at both ends of the reel . A more advanced finger pitch helps pick up downed crop .

For on-ground mode, lockout brackets (A) must be removed . Ensure that only the lockout bracket crossbolt is removed when unlocking the float arms. The second float arm stop bolt (B) is critical for function (Do Not Remove) .

A less advanced pitch reduces the material wrapping on the reel .

Header Height/HydraFlex™ Pressure Control Knob

When using off-ground mode with the ground-engaging sensor arms unpinned, ensure that grease has been added to the sensor arm pivot shaft and that the sensor arm rotates freely .

• With AHHC engaged, use the knob to adjust the header set point .

Ensure that the storage pin is placed in the correct location .

• While operating in the flex mode, the knob adjusts the flex pressure set point .

NOTE: It’s possible to use a Hybrid mode where no calibration is needed when changing between on- and off-ground modes.

Additional Recommended Settings

With both on-ground and off-ground sensing buttons turned on, it’s possible to set header activation button 2 on the multi-function lever . For the off-ground header height sensing and header activation button 3 for onground float pressure sensing. For pre-MY19 machines, refer to DTAC solution 92094 for enabling hybrid mode .

• Higher pressure = Less ground force .

• While operating in rigid mode, the knob adjusts the height set point .

Recommended Header Modes to Enable

• Press the Header application button, then select either the manual HydraFlex™ float pressure adjustment or the belt speed adjustment .

Header activation buttons 2 and 3 on the multi-function lever will activate the platform .

Helpful Hints for a Productive Harvest Corn The following recommendations will help obtain optimal performance when harvesting corn. In this type of condition, a correctly configured combine helps to ensure the operator has best performance. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings

Initial Harvesting Recommendations • Start with rotor speed at 350 rpm . Running below 300 rpm can be too slow, reducing seperation and increasing grain damage

• Set deck plates in the mid range . Based on crop conditions, incrementally open or close deck plates to optimize residue intake • The corn head auger should be down and back • Match variable feeder house speed to ground speed to eliminate excessive trash intake that can limit separation • Feed accelerator should be in slow speed (430 rpm) to reduce grain damage • Ensure the round bar concaves are level • Concave clearance should be set ~2mm more than cob diameter • Install separator grate spacers to reduce cob breakage .

Spacers can be left installed in soybean crops • If the combine is equipped with active tailings ensure its clearance is in the corn position • Cob deflector door should always be engaged with chopper in slow speed

Additional Tips for Increased Performance • Open the chaffer until shoe loss decreases or grain tank sample becomes undesirable

• Minimize grain in tailings by opening sieve until grain sample becomes unacceptable • Prevent broken cob in the tailings by closing chaffer .

Close chaffer until cob is no longer present in tailings • Close the sieve until the grain tank sample is acceptable • Most corn conditions allow for maximum fan speed with no increase in losses

Rule of Thumb

Increase rotor speed in 10 rpm increments until separator loss decreases or grain quality reaches an unacceptable level 36

High Moisture Corn The following recommendations will help obtain optimal performance when operating in high moisture (25%-35%) corn. This type of condition usually imposes a challenge to combine operators who want to achieve maximum threshing and separating of the corn while keeping the amount of “milling” or “fines” generated to a minimum. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings

Initial Harvesting Recommendations • Set deck plates in the middle of the range and incrementally open or close deck plates based on crop condition

• Green leaves = auger up, dry leaves = auger down • Match variable feeder house speed to ground speed to eliminate excessive trash intake that can limit separation • Feeder house sprocket should be on 26T or 22T from service parts along with drum in the up position • Feed accelerator should be in slow speed (430 rpm) to reduce grain damage • Ensure the round bar concaves are level • Start with rotor speed at 400 rpm • Concave clearance should be set ~2mm more than cob diameter • If the combine is equipped with active tailings ensure its clearance is in the corn position • Cob deflector door should always be engaged with chopper in slow speed

Additional Tips for Increased Performance • Optional slow speed feed accelerator kit available (320 rpm/770 rpm) - BXE10741 - MY16 and newer S-Series combines - BH81691 - MY15 and older

• Verify smooth side of feeder house slats are facing the crop • Install solid rear chaffer to reduce tailings - KXE10375 - Deep tooth (2012-2014 S-Series) - KXE10376 - General purpose (2012-2014 S-Series)

700C/FC High Moisture

• Reduced risk of kernel damage when harvesting high moisture corn • For the correct bundle number for each corn head size, refer to the Agriculture Sales Manual • Auger Height Adjustment Kit - BXE10973, BXE10974

Food Corn/Popcorn Specialty coarse crop growers are increasingly aware of the important role the combine plays in producing the highest grain quality possible. With the right configuration and settings you can deliver maximum quality in food-grade corn. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings * Equipment needs a minimum of 50 “break-in” separator hours to help smooth out all crop contacting elements

Initial Harvesting Recommendations

• A tighter deck plate setting is preferred for more trash intake and to minimize “butt-shelling” • Raise the auger up and forward to get ears off the gathering chains quickly • Corn head should be run just slow enough to be “leaning the stalks” • Gathering chains should be staggered for standing corn • Ensure the round bar concave is level • Start with rotor is slow speed (330 rpm) • Start with concave clearance 2 mm wider than cob diameter • To reduce damage try to get as much grain threshed with the first and second concave. This also promotes early separation for reduced grain damage • Install separator grates spacers in lower position • If the combine is equipped with active tailings, ensure its clearance is in the corn position • Cob deflector door should always be in the corn position with chopper in slow speed

Additional Tips for Increased Performance • Install 22-tooth sprocket to slow down the feeder house chain

• Optional slow speed feed accelerator kit available (310 rpm/770 rpm) - BXE10741 - MY16 and newer S-Series combines - BH81691 - MY15 and older • Install rounded wear strips on the feed accelerator • Reverse feeder house slats and reinstall per the technical manual • Install solid rear chaffer to reduce tailings - KXE10375 - Deep tooth - KXE10376 - General purpose • Always try to control the grain tank, sample cleanliness with the fan speed and chaffer opening first before closing the sieve 38

Soybeans The basic key to good quality harvested soybeans relies upon the operator paying close attention to the combine and taking the time to always observe/make adjustments. Try to harvest your beans at an “ideal” 14% -16% moisture.

Anything above may require higher rotor speed which can cause increased damage. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings

Initial Harvesting Recommendations

• Watch sieve adjustment – if it’s too tight it will cause increased tailings and grain damage

• Adjust header angle for optimum cutting performance

• Watch fan speed – if it’s too high it will blow the grain into tailings or out the back

- Too far forward and will push the crop - Too far back and will leave beans in the field

• If spreading is not acceptable in tough conditions, increase counter knife to 100% as finer cut residue can spread easier than long green stems

Edible Beans Because of the growing characteristics of edible beans the cutting and feeding function is different than other bean crops. This process typically results in increased levels of dirt/and or rocks than other bean crops. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings * Equipment needs a minimum of 50 “break-in” separator hours to help smooth out all crop contacting elements

Canola, Picking Up Swaths Canola is a very light/delicate crop that is fairly easy to thresh. To achieve minimal losses, it is best to pay close attention to the combine and take the time to always observe and make adjustments when needed. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings

Additional Tips for Increased Performance • All 700D and 700FD headers may be equipped with improved 18" top crop augers for smoother feeding and center section seal kits to reduce losses at this area by 45% • If it is an S780/S790 Combine, confirm it is equipped with a small grain cleaning shoe - Extended front chaffer removed and small grain windboard - AH149663 • If stalks are stabbing in front chaffer, an adjustable front chaffer is an option . Only close as far as needed to prevent stabbing . • Cut height should be as high as possible • Run the reel up and back • Less reel contact = less grain loss

• Recommended to use the standard with normal finger pitch • Slow to medium side draper belt speed • Finger drum timing should be fully counterclockwise • 700D tilt setting should be minimal to avoid higher losses off the front • Top Auger speed should be faster than belt speed to ensure head first feeding
