Located 88km South-West of Dalby, Tara’s economy has its origins in grain, beef and wool production but has since diversified to include the production of organic produce and is now the largest prime lamb producing area in Queensland. Tara is experiencing an economic windfall with significant gas exploration taking place within the district. The Tara Festival of Culture and Camel Races held every second year attracts thousands of visitors to the town. Located 63km West of Tara, Meandarra is home to a $1.2 million ANZAC Memorial Museum. The Meandarra ANZAC Memorial Museum is one of two such museums in Australia and houses a treasure trove of memorabilia, from equipment of the Light Horse Brigade through to armoured personnel carriers, gun carriers, amphibious craft, tanks, a complete Canberra Bomber aircraft and even the motor from a German U-boat submarine.

Located 99kms West of Tara, Glenmorgan is home to internationally recognised Myall Park Botanic Garden, which boasts Queensland’s oldest collection of Australian semi-arid zone flora. It is also the birthplace of the Grevillea ‘Robyn Gordon.’

The gardens were developed by amateur botanist David Gordon, AM in the 1940s on the ridge behind his home. Many species growing in the 130 plus hectare garden are now extremely rare and sometimes extinct in their own natural habitat. The onsite gallery exhibits superb botanical paintings by the late Dorothy Gordon. Follow the interpretive signs off the beaten track on foot or on bike, to see the very best specimens.

Located 72km West of Tara, Moonie is the oil capital of Queensland. Moonie is a tiny settlement on the intersection of Moonie and Leichhardt Highways. Moonie was Australia’s first commercial oil field, established in 1961, it still operates today and luftkins can be seen working nearby. Myall Park Botanic Garden

Glenmorgan is the ‘End of the Line’ with the railway extension ending in the town. The Glenmorgan Railway Station is a must see for history buffs wishing to view memorabilia of the railway in the region.
