FANCY sandwiches, tasty scones and other treats were the order of the day at a very special high-tea for the Crystal Lee Foundation late last month. Around 90 guests were treated to an afternoon of fine dining, entertainment and conversation for the fundraising event, held at the Wharf Restaurant in Port Fairy on Sunday, October 22. “Our foundation’s high tea was a sell-out which was fantastic; around 90 people enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea and were entertained by local musician Zoe Borthwick,” Julienne Clifford, executive officer with the Crystal Lee Foundation said. “Volcano Produce, Mosswood Wildlife and Friends of St Brigid’s all shared their stories and attendees each received an information pack with fliers and brochures from more than a dozen community groups or enterprises. “The focus was very much on looking locally for inspiration, for when you need support, and also if you have support to offer in terms of time or funds.” The annual raffle was drawn, along with several lucky door prizes. “We’re very grateful to all those who attended, along with those who purchased raffle tickets, and our special guests on the day for their enthusiastic contributions,” Ms Clifford said.

Steam engine rolls into town

THE Warrnambool Westcoaster thundered into town last Saturday afternoon much to the excitement of crowds gathered on and near the station platform. Amid a puff of smoke, the steam locomotive R711 and diesel S313 rolled in shortly after 1pm, bringing with it a group of lucky passengers who had made the trip from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station. Passengers were also picked up along the journey, with stops at Werribee and Waurn Ponds before the engines made easy work of the express trip through to Warrnambool. Passengers Elsie and Bill (surname withheld on request) said the journey was a nostalgic one, bringing back memories of early days of travel. “It’s so wonderful to see these old trains back on the lines and even more special to have been able to ride in one,” Bill said. “I’m sure many of the younger ones on board would have loved the chance to experience old-fashioned air conditioning (opening the windows) in the wooden carriages.” The train’s ‘excursion class’ dated back to 1936 while the first-class carriages, which are air conditioned and heated, featured 1940s vintage style compartments. The train remained in Warrnambool for a few hours, allowing passengers the chance to explore nearby businesses, before making the return journey to Melbourne.

Moyne Shire Council Community Update

Whose road is it?

From the Mayor: It’s a great honour to be elected again as Mayor of Moyne Shire and I thank my fellow councillors for putting their faith in me and to the community for their words of support and encouragement. My number one priority is delivering good outcomes for the Moyne Shire and I know with the support of Councillors and the Council team we will be able to do that. We have an exciting year ahead where wewill see work get underway on the Koroit Township Renewal Project and the new Port Fairy Skate Park and Playground. These are two key projects which are major priorities for our communities, and I am pleased to say we are finally getting underway on these. At Tuesday’s Council Meeting we reallocated $300,000 from the drainage budget to complete works in Commercial Road, Koroit which need to be done before we start on completing the footpath between IGA and the Woolsthrope Road. There’s about to be plenty of action in Commercial Road in the coming months as we undertake those works. We are still awaiting advice from the Federal Government about our application to the Growing Regions Fund which will allow us to complete the remaining footpaths in Commercial Road as well as works in High Street. Also on Tuesday we nominated projects to fund with our allocation of the Local Road and Community Infrastructure program (LRCI). These include a long-awaited footpath along Ocean Drive in Port Fairy, a project which residents in that areas have been asking for. We will also complete intersection, drainage, parking and footpath works in Campbell Street Port Fairy which will complement the skate park and play space in that area. The final project will be the rehabilitation of the PanmureLaang Road. LRCI is a federal government funding allocation which Local Governments can then use on important priority projects. The three I’ve mentioned above will now be submitted to the Department for approval. The summer road construction period is about to begin with a significant program of works planned for right across the shire – the team are just finalizing timings now and we’ll make sure to let people know when and where they can expect to see our hard-working teams completing these works. I’m looking forward to working with our community over the next 12 months as Mayor. It’s an honour to first be elected to Council, but an even greater privilege to be entrusted with the role of Mayor for a second time. Cr Ian Smith Mayor

Did you know that not all roads within Moyne Shire are under the control of Council? There are around 600 kilometers of roads which the state government has responsibility for any repair and maintenance on the road surface, and on the roadsides. Under the Road Management Act, Council is not able to able to conduct any maintenance or repairs on these roads. The roads in Moyne that the State Government have control over are: Four highways (marked and numbered in red) 1. Great Ocean Road 2. Hamilton Highway 3. Hopkins Highway 4. Princes Highway

Seventeen main roads (marked in white) • Ayresford Road • Cobden-Warrnambool Road • Hamilton-Port Fairy Road • Koroit-Port Fairy Road • Koroit-Woolsthorpe Road • Macarthur-Penshurst Road • Mailors Flat-Koroit Road • Mortlake-Ararat Road • Myamyn-Macarthur Road • Penshurst-Port Fairy Road • Penshurst-Warrnambool Road • Southern Cross Road • Spencer Road • Terang-Mortlake Road • Timboon-Nullawarre Road • Warrnambool-Caramut Road • Woolsthorpe-Heywood Road

If you see an issue with these roads, you can report it to Regional Roads Victoria on 133 778.

Seen something that needs our attention – let us know!

We try our best to stay on top of everything, but with more than 5000 square kilometers to cover - we appreciate the community being an extra set of eyes and getting in touch to tell us when something needs attention. Getting in touch with Council is simple. You can call us on 1300 656 564, lodge a service request online at www.moyne.vic.gov.au/servicerequest, live chat with one of our customer service team by clicking the chat now button on our website or email moyne@moyne.vic.gov.au On weekends or after hours you can call 1300 656 564 and follow the prompts to be connected to an on-call team members for urgent matters – like animal attacks, trees fallen across a local road or damage to a council facility or building.

Flash mob kicks off Halloween

A FLASH mob on the Merrivale Oval kicked off a whole lot of spooky fun in the town earlier this week.

Thanks to the work of a band of volunteers, Tuesday afternoon’s flash mob was enjoyed by a large group that gathered at the oval to watch the performance, enjoy some Halloween sweet-treats and collect detailed maps outlining the 12 locations on the 2023 Sustainable Scarecrow Trail. The boo-tiful creations, scattered throughout Merrivale and West Warrnambool, were appreciated by many local families who enjoyed the chance to get out and walk, cycle or drive from one location to the next. This year’s event, organised by the Merrivale Community Association, was the fourth since its inception in 2020. As an annual interactive community art exhibition, the scarecrow trail encourages residents to create and display scarecrows made from repurposed materials found around the home and the local environment, including marine litter. The project continues to raise awareness of marine litter, mainly plastic, that lines our coastline. Students from Merrivale, Warrnambool West and, St Pius X primary schools, along with Brauer College, also took part in the trail.

Public platform for local bands

LOCAL band ‘Convict Class’ is hoping to light up the stage when it joins up to a dozen others at a special music festival in Warrnambool early next year.

Shane Stenhouse and his band have been working hard in recent months to ensure bands have a local platform where they can showcase their talents. “After meeting with Music Victoria late last year, and holding follow-up discussions with local musicians, it was apparent there was a need for a dedicated venue or a festival to showcase the awesome local bands/ performers we have in Warrnambool,” he said. “We applied for grant funding through Warrnambool City Council and were lucky enough to secure $5,000 to help run a festival.” Despite knowing there would still be a shortfall in funds to put on such an event, Shane and his team are determined to do all they can to ensure the Ignite! Festival will be a success. “We’re always on the look out for event sponsors and would be thrilled to speak with anyone interested,” he said. “We’re all about providing not just a platform for local bands to perform but

to also provide a safe, entertaining and welcoming family environment for all to enjoy.” The Ignite! Festival will be held at Warrnambool’s Civic Green on Saturday, February 3. Showcasing 12 local, original bands, this will be an all-age event which organisers hope will become an annual one. “Who knows, this could be a great kick start for a career in music for some of our local bands and musicians,” Shane said. “Our main aim is to deliver an event of mixed music styles, all ages, genders and abilities that caters for everyone’s tastes.” Ignite! will be a no-alcohol event and organisers will be encouraging people to support local businesses for food, drink and other needs throughout the festival. “Music has no barriers and we will ensure that no demographic is left out, whether that be on the stage or in the crowd,” Shane said. “We embrace all cultures and our focus is to encourage anyone who has a passion for music to perform and attend.” Anyone wanting more information on the festival can contact Shane Stenhouse at ignitemusicfestival2024@gmail.com.

Wreckfest committee members Mark Croucher, Glenda Peterson and Ken Sharpe are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the inaugural event at Flagstaff Hill on Sunday 2023D

Wreckfest full steam ahead

WARRNAMBOOL’S Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Village will come alive with all the colour, excitement, fun and activities of a 19th century port this weekend.

Visitors to the village on Sunday will be taken back 150 years for an emersion into the lives of our forefathers and a glimpse of the way they lived. There will be working displays, old trades, history and genealogy groups, a lighthouse display, Devonshire teas in the lovely tea rooms, and the firing of cannons and lots more. The Wreckfest committee, a not-for-profit group, is excited to bring this new and unique maritime-themed festival to Flagstaff Hill and to Warrnambool. “The museum and village have a unique cultural system; it portrays the story of the coast and portrays life in a shipping port back in the 1800s,” Wreckfest

committee member Ken Sharpe said. There will be old trade stands and displays of crafts including a tarot reader, a porcelain flower maker, working blacksmith, Miss Lizzie and her giant spinning wheel and a sock maker. There will also be a weaver using her loom, a shearing display showing the use of hand shears along with quilters, spinners, a coopers’ display and more. Entertainment on the day will include the Warrnambool Brass Band, the Warrnambool Pipe Band and the Tin Shed Singers. There will be children’s activities, including dress-ups throughout the day, along with the firing of the 80lb cannon by the Garrison staff. The food court will serve typically styled fare found on an English wharf including fish ‘n’ chips, hot jacket potatoes, a toastie bar and a more modern coffee mobile.

Refreshments will be from a local brewery, a distillery and winery. The tearooms will provide traditional home-made Devonshire teas (dine-in only) on the hour throughout the day, but bookings are essential. “We believe in community involvement, which strengthens relationships between our group, communities and businesses,” Mr Sharpe said. “Such a valuable relationship benefits us all, as all sides support each other. “Community events have a unique ability to bring local groups together, giving people a sense of ownership and pride in their local areas and an opportunity to celebrate and embrace local diversity.” Tickets for Wreckfest and Devonshire teas are available now on the Flagstaff Hill/events website or can be purchased on the day at Flagstaff Hill.

Big steps for small feet

LITTLE feet were taking big steps all the way to school last week. Students across the district were on the move last Friday as part of the Beyond Bank Walk to School Day. The day encouraged all students and their families to give walking or riding a try and discover the many benefits of early morning exercise outdoors. “Walking, scooting or riding to school is one of the best ways for any student to start the day,” Warrnambool mayor Cr Ben Blain said. “As well as the physical health benefits, it boosts confidence, independence and self-esteem. “Getting that exercise in before and after school helps kids to feel great now, while building healthy habits that can last a lifetime. “If your kids aren’t regular walkers, Beyond Bank Walk to School Day was the perfect time to give it a go.” And for those who lived too far away from their local school, many took the opportunity to park a few blocks from school and let their children walk the rest of the way. Part of the Warrnambool City Council HEALTHY MOVES program, Beyond Bank Walk to School aims to increase the number of students walking and riding to school.

Funding boost for community groups MORE than $140,000 in grants have been awarded to 33 community groups as part of the latest round of Moyne Shire council’s Community Assistance Fund. From the purchase of new township Christmas decorations and school iPads through to power tools for a men’s shed, mayor Cr Ian Smith said the grants would support groups and organisations in every corner of the shire. “The aim of this fund is to support clubs to upgrade their facilities, purchase new equipment or run programs, and initiatives that all have winder community benefit – the list is a perfect example of that,” Cr Smith said. “The Port Fairy men’s shed, which will buy new tools, provides an important social outlet for many in the community, and there are several sporting clubs

receiving support which promote healthy and active lifestyles (again providing vital community connections). “This fund is our way of supporting you and saying that you for the important work you do.” Cr Smith there was still $49,660 left in the budget for a second round of funding, which will open for applications next February. “This fund is one of the best things we do as a council; it’s great to see so many applications for the first round and I’m pleased we can still have a second round so those who may not have been ready can still seek some support,” Cr Smith said. “I encourage groups who didn’t put in an application this time to start thinking about equipment they need or upgrades they’d love to undertaken and then put in an application.” Successful funding recipients in this round included:

Spring Creek Cricket Club - $15,000 for cricket nets at Woolsthorpe Recreation Reserve. Port Fairy Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society - $6849 for a rideon mower. Port Fairy Football Netball Club $5400 for a turf management project. South West Makers Association $4153 for displays for a new gallery space. Warrnambool Olympic Pistol Club $3092 for works on range wall. Port Fairy Community Pool Management Group - $3055 for ceiling installation. Port Fairy Public Cemetery Trust $2976 for beautification works of a memorial area. Port Fairy Bridge Club - $2969 for computerised scoring units. Nirranda Community Centre - $2950 for a new slasher.

Koroit and District Primary School $2946 for iPads. Koroit Bowls Club - $2940 to purchase equipment for a new junior program. Grassmere Hall and Recreation Reserve - $2800 for a new shelter at the tennis courts. Illowa Community Recreation Reserve - $2545 for a new stove in the hall kitchen. Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail Committee of Management - $2468 to purchase hand tools and a cycle repair station for Koroit. Port Fairy Men’s Shed - $1684 for power tools to assist with projects East Framlingham Golf Club - $1363 for a pole saw. Koroit District Angling Club - $1007 for promotional flags and a barbecue.

MOTORING How secure is your load?

AS the warmer weather approaches, and thoughts turn to clearing property and homes, many are loading up trailers and heading to the tip.

Whether you are moving unwanted rubbish to landfill sites, taking furniture to new homes or picking up your latest purchases, make sure the load is well secured before transport. Loose loads can be dangerous, and sometimes even fatal, to you and other drivers. It is an offence if your load is not properly restrained and is at risk of falling from your vehicle or trailer. Every year Victorians are at danger from tonnes of debris falling onto roads from unsecured loads. The debris causes road closures and disruptions and can lead to serious crashes. According to VicRoads, 80 tonnes of debris is removed from the state’s roads every month – with 700 callsouts to collect debris. More than 50 cars were hit by items falling off a trailer or truck in 2008 and some of those caused serious injury. A properly restrained load won’t

dislodge, even after the most severe braking, swerving and cornering. A heavy load is just as likely to fall as a light load and many crashes resulting from a loose load occur at low speeds within a short distance of where the trip started.

Along with the danger posed to other road users, unsecured loads can also lead to fines (even if they don’t come loose). There are three types of risk categories, with varying fines, and the penalties differ between regular drivers and companies. An unsecured load that doesn’t involve danger to a person, or the risk of damage to property or the environment, is classified as a ‘minor risk breach.’ The penalty for this is up to $242 for an individual and up to $1209 for a company. An unsecured load that poses a danger to people, property or

the environment is classified as a ‘substantial risk breach.’ This carries a penalty of up to $645 for individuals and $3224 for a company. An unsecured load that causes harm to people or damage to property or the environment is classified as a ‘severe risk breach.’ In these instances, individuals and companies are taken to court. Some tips on how to carry a load safely include choose a suitable vehicle for your load; position and place the load so that it is secure; select suitable restraint equipment; you may need to adjust your headlights when your vehicle is loaded; drive carefully and regularly check your restraints.

Lunch treat for visiting motorists

MORE than 80 members of the Classic Triumph Car Group enjoyed a stop-over in Port Fairy last week. The Lions Club of Port Fairy-Belfast were happy to cater for the group, providing the drivers and their partners with tasty lunch boxes which were enjoyed while resting in the community theatre. The food for the boxes was provided by a tireless group of Lions and partners who worked from early morning to prepare the meal. As with all Lions fundraising efforts, all profits will go towards Lions club community and humanitarian activities. The new barbecue facility at the railway precinct in Koroit is now operational and the surrounds look fantastic. What a tremendous effort by Koroit Lions with their playground, fitness track and picnic areas which have resulted in the railway precinct becoming very popular with both locals and visitors. It is also a great stop-over for walkers and cyclists using the Port Fairy to Warrnambool rail trail. Tonight (Friday, November 3) Warrnambool Lions Club will host its very popular and funfilled trivia evening at St Pius. The club has been busy recently, providing breakfast for the Lions Heart Ride participants, assisting with the operation of the Lions Skin Care caravan (and as far away as Edenhope and Harrow) a peace poster display at the old camera house and participation at the recent Volunteers Expo. Their Lions Christmas cake display and sales will soon commence at Kmart so why not stop by and say hi to the team, and learn more about your Lions club?

Moths under the microscope

THE marvellous world of moths and microbats found in the Warrnambool coastal region will be under the microscope this month.

“Microbats play an important role in controlling insect numbers, including a range of pest species, by eating up to half their body weight in insects in a night,” Dr Lumsden said. Warrnambool Coastal Landcare Network will host “However, due to their small size, nocturnal behaviour experts on both species, Dr Lindy Lumsden and Peter and cryptic roosting habits, these fascinating native Marriott, on Tuesday, November 7. mammals are rarely seen and are often portrayed The event is part of the network’s ‘Collaborating on negatively in the media.” Coastal Revegetation Works in a Cultural Landscape’ Dr Lumsden hopes her presentation will help to reverse project funded through the Coastcare Grants program. those negative perceptions and educate and enthuse Department of Energy, Environment and Climate people about bats. Along with other collaborators, Mr Marriott produces a series of publications called Moths of Victoria which have become vital references for moth lovers and entomologists. The Warrnambool event will be held in the La Bella Room of the Pavilion Café on November 7 from 7pm. During the evening Mr Marriott will present images and describe some of the major moth families in the Warrnambool region including rare species, and also talk about their habitat, behaviour and life cycle. Warrnambool and District Landcare facilitator Geoff Rollinson said the event would contribute to a better understanding of fauna species in the coastal area near Warrnambool and their preferred habitat and plant species.

Fete this weekend

Father Scott Lowrey and Lois McKenzie (parish council secretary) are hoping locals will support this weekend’s parish fete. 2023D

ORGANISERS are hoping for fine weather and big crowds at this weekend’s Parish Fete in Warrnambool.

The Anglican Parish of Warrnambool will hold its annual fete in the church grounds this Sunday, November 5. The church, on the corner of Koroit and Henna streets, is currently undergoing extensive interior restoration and it is hoped that money raised on the weekend will go towards the cost of the project. “The restoration works have been ongoing for almost three years now,” Father Scott Lowrey said. “It will certainly look lovely once complete but the work is extensive and intricate. “We have removed up to seven layers of paint to get back to the original render. Our church has been an integral part of the Warrnambool community since 1857.” Visitors to this weekend’s fete will find plenty of bargains in the various plant, bric-a-brac, book and trash and treasure stalls. And with a barbecue, baked potatoes, Devonshire tea, cakes, biscuits, slices and more you certainly won’t leave with an empty stomach. The fete will run from 10.30am until 1.30pm.

Paddock picnic proves popular WITH everything from jumping castles, CFA displays and a host of free and fun workshops, last Sunday’s Picnic in the Paddock drew big crowds to Koroit. The grounds of St Patrick’s school were a hive of activity on Sunday as young and the young at heart took advantage of the many activities and entertainment on offer. Pop-up shops, farm animals, food stalls and jumping castles ensured there was plenty to see and do all day long.

Earlier fire season predicted

WITH predictions of a drier and warmer spring, and a high chance of an early start to the fire season in most parts of the state, local CFA crews are preparing for a busy season.

According to CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan, residents can expect a warmer spring and earlier start to the fire season this year. “CFA crews across the state are again prepared to protect their communities,” Mr Heffernan said. “Our members are continuously working very closely with their communities and our interagency partners to prepare for the high-risk weather season. “Fire safety is a shared responsibility between fire services and Victorians, so we urge people to begin preparing their family and property for the upcoming fire season.”

Victoria’s drier than average conditions are expected to continue, following below average rainfall across much of the state during winter according to the Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Spring. Despite below average rainfalls for winter, grass growth is expected to be higher than usual following three years of wet La Niña conditions. There is also a high likelihood that bushfire season will start earlier, compared to the past two years, across much of central, western and northern Victoria. Remaining parts of the state are expected to see normal fire potential. However, hot, windy conditions can still pose a fire risk. Emergency services remain well prepared for emerging risks associated with the potential for an earlier start to bushfire season and will continue to monitor conditions. It’s important for communities to

understand their local risks. You can keep up to date with the Fire Danger Ratings on the VicEmergency app and VicEmergency website. Forest Fire management Victoria chief fire officer Chris Hardman said protecting life, property and the environment was at the heart of what Forest Fire Management Victoria does. “We reduce bushfire risk all year round, and the drier conditions over winter have allowed our crews to recently conduct planned burns in parts of the state where conditions have been suitable and it is safe to do so, including in the Grampians,” Mr Hardman said. “Victoria will always have bushfires, and we want our communities to know that when a bushfire starts we are ready to respond, with more than 500 seasonal firefighters recruited to work alongside our full-time crews and emergency sector partners.”

CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan has warned of an earlier start to the fire season this year. 2023E

Russells Creek on top AFTER four rounds, with three wins under their belts, Russells Creek currently sits on top of the Warrnambool District Cricket Association ladder. With Allansford, Merrivale and Brierly-Christ Church also recording three wins to date, early indications are the 2023 season may shape up to be a close one at the top. The top side stamped its mark on its Merrivale opponents last weekend, winning the toss and electing to bat first. Openers Hamish Huffadine and captain Cameron Williams made 38 and 32 runs respectively while team-mates Rukshan Weerasinghe (50) and Craig Britten (45 not out) were also impressive with the bat. The side made 9/197 off its 45 overs. In reply, the Tigers struggled to reach a tonne, finishing the day on 10/86 off 21 overs. Wilbur Pomorin (28) and Marcus Bunney (18) were the best of the Tigers’ batsmen while best with the ball for Russells Creek was Oliver Noonan who took an impressive 4/12 off five overs. Also effective at the crease were Blake Evans 2-23 off six and Adam Doak 2-21 off five. Other round four division one winners last weekend were Wesley Yambuk over North Warrnambool, Brierly-Christ Church over Port Fairy and Nestles in a close one over Northern Riaders. Dennington also took the win over Allansford Panmure while West Warrnambool defeated Mortlake.

Strong season opener for Wooster WARRNAMBOOL’S Glenn Wooster has kicked off his 2023 drag racing campaign with a stellar performance at Tailem Bend. Wooster finished second in the first round of the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC), held just over a fortnight ago at the new complex Dragway at The Bend Spring Nationals Event. Wooster’s performance saw him take out a very close second in the Prostock motorcycle category. “That race was the inaugural quarter mile event at Tailem Bend and it couldn’t have gone much better,” Wooster said. “It was the biggest weekend in South Australian drag racing history with 350 plus drag racing cars and bikes and crowds of 20,000 plus through the gates.” The weekend also marked Wooster’s second time out after once again personally overseeing the engine development program for White Live Fever Drag Racing. “We couldn’t have been more excited to have come home with a tightly contested runner-up placing and have some great data showing fantastic results, exciting us all with this motorbike’s potential,” Wooster said. “The track was awesome to race on and only being five

or six hours from Warrnambool it becomes our new home track for us now.” While full of enthusiasm for the new track, Wooster said the weather conditions at Tailem Bend played havoc with the racing schedule. “The weather conditions hampered us, with wind gusts exceeding 50km/hr which made racing too dangerous late afternoon on Saturday and racing was cancelled.” This cancellation meant Wooster’s test run became the qualifying round for Sunday’s racing format, placing him in fourth position. A positive that came out of this testing was a recorded PB for the 60’ time which came out at 1.066 seconds. “Sunday’s first round saw us run a 7.196 sec pass at 166mph which gave us the top ET time in the first round. “Round two was a solid win, and felt like the smoothest and best ride on a Pro Stock

motorcycle I have ever experienced.” The final, round three, was based on accumulated points throughout the meeting. This saw Wooster pitted against Scott White – with Scott’s 7.170sec ET and reaction time of 0.032 enough to give him the win. “Unfortunately I had a sleepy reaction time of 0.233 but faster ET of 7.080; but that’s racing,” Wooster said. “It was so good to see Pro Stock Motorcycles finally running 7’s and 7.1 at 300km/h in a final.”

Warrnambool’s Glenn Wooster is looking forward to the 2023 drag racing season after a second place at Tailem Bend.

The program encourages clubs to engage with players, members and their communities on key road safety issues and promote safe behaviours, with the dangers of distracted driving a key focus of this year’s campaign. Successful clubs are able to use the money for a range of initiatives including education programs, club transport initiatives, new equipment and uniforms, and facility upgrades and improvements. AFL Victoria-affiliated clubs from across the state were able to apply for the program by showing how they supported road safety throughout the year, including taking part in the TAC’s Road Safety Round ‘Band Together’ campaign.
