New Staff Q& A: Deputy Head (Pastoral)
Biography
Mrs Loveless started her teaching career in a secondary school in London and moved to a similar educational setting in Northamptonshire as Second in Department for Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). She was appointed as Head of MFL at King’s School Bruton in 2011, a day and boarding school for 13 to 18-year-olds, before taking on the role of Housemistress for over 50 day and boarding girls. She also led PSHE to Years 9 to 11 and the school’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She is joined at Westbrook Hay by Mr Loveless, the new Head of MFL, and their two children who also attend the school.
What has been your best moment this half term?
Being able to get to know the pupils in all the different parts of the school, whether teaching them French, Spanish or PSHE in the classroom or watching them play football on the sports fields.
What are you most looking forward to?
Seeing the pupils develop into academically successful, community minded, self-confident and well rounded young adults.

What are you hoping to have achieved by the end of the year?

Why Westbrook Hay?
Right from the start, I really loved the warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is really exciting to have the opportunity to help grow such a successful prep school into an all-through school to 16.

In January, staff will be trained by Andrew Hampton on the Girls’ On Board Programme and we hope to start to deliver this soon after to pupils. I look forward to offering the opportunity to parents to be a part of this programme and continuing to grow staff/parent relationships.

How will your role impact the planned expansion to Year 11?
Ensuring that the excellent levels of pastoral care continue to nurture and support Westbrook Hay pupils up to Year 11. I am also grateful to be able to offer the school my experience as an MFL Teacher up to GCSEs.

New Staff Q& A: Head of Girls’ Sport
Biography
After studying Sports Management at Loughborough University, Ms Starr began her career in education in a secondary school in Northamptonshire. In 2016 she moved to Mayfield Girls’ School in East Sussex, where she was initially Head of Cricket and Resident Tutor, prior to being appointed as Director of Sport. Ms Starr has also represented England as a part of the U19 Indoor Cricket Squad in two World Cups and played football for Rushden & Diamonds Centre of Excellence.
Why Westbrook Hay?
I wanted to be a part of this exciting transition, where sport is an important part of the future of the school and where Girls’ Sport is valued. I am also keen to use my academic and pastoral experience as the school expands to Year 11.
What has been your best moment this half term?
Although it takes a lot of work, I love organising tournaments and particularly enjoyed hosting the U11 Girls’ IAPS Regional Football Finals and the inaugural U12 Girls’ Football Festival at Westbrook Hay. Finishing fourth in the ISA U11 Girls’ Regional Football Finals at LVS Ascot was also a real highlight.
What are you most looking forward to?
Creating an inclusive sporting environment where every girl feels encouraged to participate and excel, while also developing their confidence and skills.

How will your role impact the planned expansion to Year 11?

What are you hoping to have achieved by the end of the year?
I am planning on starting a ‘Strength & Conditioning’ Westbrook+ Club for girls. I want to develop the girls’ knowledge and understanding of the importance of this aspect of being an athlete.
I will be delivering the GCSE PE curriculum and have chosen to follow the AQA Course, which will be really suited to the Westbrook Hay pupils. As a part of our ‘Sport for Life’ Programme, I will be ensuring that all girls find some form of physical activity that they can invest in and enjoy.
