Summer Reading Kickoff

We’re kicking off Summer Reading at the West Bloomfield Library. Join us for a day of fun including circus skills with Cirque Amongus, Lego mania, inflatable bounce house, human hamster ball races, game truck, family fun, a photo booth, and more! For all ages. Create Your Own Seed Bomb

Monday, June 12 at 6 PM

Westacres Branch Terrace

Craft seed bombs out of native wildflower seeds, small clusters of clay, and paper. Seed bombs create colorful pollinator habitats in your yard or in planters. For all ages. Registration is required.

Summer Reading Midsummer Party

We’re continuing to celebrate Summer Reading with a midsummer party. Join us for an afternoon of fun including Imagination Station building, Creation Station crafting, a bounce house, lawn games, a petting zoo, and more! For all ages. No registration is required. Learn about the night sky during the day! StarLab is a portable, inflatable planetarium that brings the wonder of the current night sky indoors as it is projected on the inside of the dome. For grades 1 and up. Registration is required and opens a month before the event. This program is provided by a grant from the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Assistance Partnership Program.

Movie Night

Tuesday, August 8 at 7 PM

Join us for an outdoor movie night at the library shown on a GIANT inflatable movie screen! Lawn games and limited snacks will be provided. For all ages. No registration is required. This program is provided by a grant from the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Assistance Partnership Program. Please only register the children attending the program. Group registrations are not accepted. Parents and caregivers are expected to remain with their children during library events.

Super Structures Workshop with Mad Science

Students will learn how bubbles can come in different forms. All eyes will be riveted on the presenter as she encloses a person in a bubble big enough to stand in! Young Adult Saturday Crafting

Saturdays, June 24, July 15, and August 5 from 2:30 - 4 PM

Trailhead Tent near the Main Library Have fun doing a variety of craftivities on Saturday afternoons. Join Heather Earnley, a local art instructor, as she leads you through a craft. Make a friendship bracelet, paint a pet rock as an adorable animal, and design a mini flip book animation. All supplies will be provided. For grades 6-12.

UV Resin Jewelry

Monday, July 10 from 2:30 - 4 PM

Trailhead Tent near the Main Library

Learn the basics of resin crafting, then create a piece of jewelry using molds that will be exposed to UV light to harden. For grades 6-12. Registration is required. Note: Gloves and eye protection will be provided and must be worn.

Crafter Hours at the Library: Craft Wars!

Linocut Printing for Beginners

Monday, August 14 from 2:30 - 4 PM

Trailhead Tent near the Main Library

Create linocut prints, a form of block printing. Two projects will be created in this class. For the first, building designs will be carved into pink erasers that will be inked and printed on paper. Next, a pattern of simple shapes will be cut into a larger print block and then inked and printed. For grades 6-12. Registration is required.

Westacres Dungeons and Dragons Club

If you enjoy playing D&D or you want to discover why it is popular, join the Westacres Dungeons and Dragons Club. Introduction to Painting Gaming Miniatures

Using miniatures in games like Dungeons and Dragons takes the experience to the next level, and games like Warhammer require miniatures. Painting miniatures might seem daunting, but new paints have been formulated to automatically add highlights and shading with minimal effort. Learn how to use these new paints to quickly get your miniatures table ready. Miniatures, paints, and other necessary supplies will be provided. For grades 6-12. Registration is required.

Summer Strum’n Ukulele Fun

Wednesdays, June 21, July 12 and 26, and August 16 from 6:30 - 8 PM

Trailhead Tent near the Main Library

Nothing says summer like the sounds of a ukulele. This four-string wonder is easy for beginners but challenging enough for a lifetime of enjoyment. Over this four-session course, you'll learn about everything from the parts of the instrument to songs with three chords.

A limited number of ukuleles will be available for checkout for the duration of the class, but if you have your own, bring it. Everyone who signs up will be contacted about a ukulele. For young adults and adults. Registration is required. Registration is for the entire four-session course.

Talkin’ Broadway: Wedding Band

Autism 101 with Autism Alliance of Michigan

This program is geared towards those who would like to learn more about and increase their understanding of autism in the educational and professional setting. Detroit Institute of Arts: Behind the Seen – Art|Pride

Beginner's Tapestry Weaving
