Dan Blakley is the Associate Vice President for Economic and Business Engagement at The University of Alabama. He has been in this position since January 2020.
In this position, Blakley oversees efforts for economic development
and business engagement including the UA Gulf Coast operation in Mobile, The EDGE Labs, UA Center for Economic Development, and the Business Outreach Centers (including the Alabama International Trade Center, Alabama Small Business Development Center, and the APEX Accelerator). He is also responsible for executing key themes of the Office for Research and Economic Development’s Five-Year Strategic Plan as well as UA’s Five-Year Economic Development Priorities and Strategic Goals.
Blakley is well known in West Alabama and to the UA community. He was City President for Regions Bank in Tuscaloosa from 2009 to 2018. He also previously served as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama and has served or is serving as President of the Black Warrior Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Culverhouse College of Business Board of Visitors, DCH Foundation Board, and an ex-officio board member of the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority Board, among others. He also currently serves on the board of directors for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, the Tuscaloosa National Airport advisory committee, and ex-officio board member of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.
Blakley has also been involved in various entrepreneurial initiatives. He helped to establish The EDGE and has served as an advisor and mentor for entrepreneurial teams participating in Crimson Startup, a National Science Foundation funded I-Corp Program. He also founded American Renewable Metals, LLC, a Tuscaloosa-based chemical technology company. He has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Southern Illinois University. He previously served as a Chemical Officer in the US Army from 1996-2000, where he provided nuclear, biological, and chemical support.

Josiah (Jo) Robins Bonner, Jr. was selected as the fourth president of the University of South Alabama in November 2021 with a commitment to establishing South as the Flagship of the Gulf Coast.
Under his leadership, South has positioned itself as a top destination for a quality education and the region’s fastest-growing academic medical system.
Previously, Bonner served as chief of staff to Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. For more than a decade, he represented Alabama’s First District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he earned a reputation as a respected and influential voice of reason in both Alabama and Washington.
He was a member of the House Appropriations Committee and chaired the House Ethics Committee. During Bonner’s time as chairman, the bipartisan Ethics Committee always had a unanimous vote.
His crowning Congressional accomplishment came in 2012 when Airbus announced plans to build its first U.S. Final Assembly Line in Mobile. He secured a $2.8 billion contract for Austal to build 10 Littoral Combat Ships for the U.S. Navy.
President Bonner is an inductee to the Alabama Academy of Honor, the state’s premiere recognition of 100 living Alabamians for their outstanding accomplishments and service. He is also a 2023 graduate of Leadership Alabama, where he serves on their board. In 2016, the Business Council of Alabama created the inaugural Congressman Jo Bonner Spirit of Leadership Award and honored Bonner as its first recipient. He also received the Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest honor the U.S. Navy bestows on a civilian, and has been named the 2023 Patriot of the Year by Mobile Bay Area Veterans Council.
President Bonner is married to the former Janée Lambert, of Mobile, and they are the parents of a daughter, Lee, and a son, Robins.

Olivier Charles serves as the President of Bishop State Community College. A strong advocate of making education more accessible for students from all backgrounds, Charles’ ground level, innovative approach to leadership is impactful across the campus.
Having earned both a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and a Master of Science in College Student Development from the University of West Alabama, he is currently a doctoral student studying Higher Education Leadership at Mississippi State University.
Prior to Charles being named President of Bishop State, he served as Vice Chancellor for Student Success with the Alabama Community College System (ACCS). In that role, he led the entire state of Alabama through monumental enrollment growth including the first year-overyear increase in headcount in 11 years. He also had oversight over all student affairs functions for the entire state.
Charles has served in many capacities of education such as Dean of Students at Enterprise State Community College, Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Auburn University at Montgomery, and as Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management at the University of West Alabama. He has directed and managed best practice policies regarding student recruitment, advising, admissions, athletics, financial aid, registrar, retention, marketing, ADA, Title IX, and facilities. He served on and chaired numerous committees that involved reverse transfer, technology, freshman studies, orientation, athletics (NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NJCAA), scholarships, retention, and policy reviews.
In his commitment to both education and the community, he has served on the Southeast Montgomery YMCA Board of Directors, where he co-chaired a capital campaign.

David Clark joined Visit Mobile as President & CEO in April 2017. He has 29 years of hospitality, lodging, and tourism leadership and 27 years working and living in Coastal Alabama. His role with Visit Mobile is to promote the City of Mobile as a tourism destination by creating an image of

Prior to working with Spectrum Resorts, Clark worked with Marriott International for 25 years; 23 of those years were at The Grand Hotel Marriott, Resort Golf Club & Spa in Point Clear, AL where he served in a variety of roles including Head Golf Professional, Director of Golf, Resident Manager, and General Manager.
Clark’s teams led Marriott International’s Resort Division to the #1 Overall Guest Satisfaction ranking in North America for six consecutive years. Clark was the recipient of Marriott International’s General Manager of the Year for North America and received Hotelier of the Year in 2016 and 2009 by the Alabama Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance. He was honored by the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce as Community Leader of the Year and served on Leadership Alabama. He was recognized in 2016 as Industry Partner of the Year by the University of South Alabama’s Hospitality & Tourism Department.
Clark currently serves as President of the University of South Alabama’s Hospitality and Tourism Advisory Board, is a Board Member of the Exploreum, the Alabama Restaurant & Hospitality Alliance, and the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Advisors. He is a past Chairman of the Board of The Eastern Shore of Commerce, the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, and Chairman Elect of the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber. Clark is a Lifetime Member of the Professional Golfers Association of America.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Western Kentucky University. He is married to Melinda and has one daughter, Savannah.

With two decades of on-the-ground work in a wide variety of organizations, Todd Greer joined the Innovation Portal team with a background as an experienced startup advisor, educator, community builder, facilitator, and leadership development consultant.
Prior to serving as the Executive Director of Innovation Portal, Greer served in multiple capacities at the University of Mobile, first as Dean of the School of Business, then Vice Provost, and finally as Vice President for Academic Affairs. Greer holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership with a major in Human Resource Development from Regent University.

Abbey Huguley is the Talent Development and Attraction Manager in the Economic Development Department at the Mobile Chamber. Her role is to attract, retain and develop talent in the Mobile region.
Huguley holds a bachelor’s degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations from Mississippi State University and received further training at the True South Economic Development Course at Southern Miss. She is a member of the Economic Development Association of Alabama, the Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers, and the Mobile Society for Human Resource Management.
Huguley serves as the Executive Director for the Young Professionals of Mobile, Order of Fuse member for Fuse Project, and serves on two boards at the University of South Alabama: the Global USA Advisory Board and the Mitchell College of Business Management Advisory Board. She is a class of 2022 graduate of Connect Mobile.

Emily Easterbrook is the Career Coach for Saraland City Schools. She helps students create a plan for their future career and educate them on various career options, college opportunities, financial aid tips, and more.
While her office is at the high school,
she services all of the schools in the district with career exploration activities at all campuses and education planning at the middle school.

Brent Harrison was the principal of Saraland High School for four years before being appointed superintendent of Saraland City School System.
He has previously served as the principal of Enterprise High School and as principal of Charles Henderson High School. In 2004, he accepted his very first teaching position at Duluth High School, in Duluth, Georgia, where he taught social studies and coached football and basketball at the varsity level.
Harrison graduated from Troy State University in 2001 with a B.S. in Marketing. Within a year of graduating, he changed professions and soon enrolled at the University of Montevallo to pursue a master’s degree in education. In 2011, he received his Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Troy University, and he is currently enrolled in a doctoral program (Educational Leadership) at the University of South Alabama.
He and his wife, Kelly, have been married for twelve years. Kelly is a BSN within the Saraland City School System. They have two boys, Boone and Trosper.

Donna Hughes is the College & Career Readiness Coordinator for Saraland City Schools.
Hughes graduated with distinction from the University of Oklahoma in 1989, where she earned her Bachelor
of Arts in Journalism. She earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee State University in 2005, and a National Board Certification in Early Adolescence/English Language Arts in 2010.
Hughes is married to Kenn Hughes, the Director of Instrumental Studies at the University of Mobile. The couple has four children: Hailey, Harrison, Kendon, and Donovan.
Archnique Kidd

Archnique Kidd is the Supplier Diversity Manager for the City of Mobile. She was selected by Mayor Sandy Stimson in 2015. As Supplier Diversity Manager, she is responsible for building the City’s first Supplier Diversity Program, as well as compliance, training, outreach, and policy.
Kidd came to the City of Mobile from the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System, where she had been the Underutilized Business Coordinator for 19 years. There, she was responsible for the development and management Underutilized Business Program.
Kidd is a graduate of the University of Mobile, where she majored in Business Administration. She is also a Graduate of Leadership Mobile Class of 2005, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Citizens Academy, and United Way of South Alabama Project Blueprint.

Stephen McNair is Director of External Affairs for the City of Mobile with a focus on legislative and governmental affairs, in addition to policy initiatives.
McNair is the former owner of McNair Historic Preservation, Inc., a national consulting firm representing clients

McNair serves on the Board of Wilmer Hall, the History Museum of Mobile, and the Mobile Area Boy Scouts of America. McNair was appointed to the Small Business Commission of Alabama by the Lieutenant Governor.
Dr. Jeremiah Newell is the Chief Executive Officer of the Mobile Area Education Foundation (MAEF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public education in Mobile County, Alabama. With nearly two decades of experience in education,
Dr. Newell has played a pivotal role in designing innovative learning environments and implementing educational reforms.
He founded and served as the Superintendent of ACCEL Academy, Alabama’s first public charter school, which aims to support disconnected youth through personalized education pathways. His efforts at ACCEL Academy have been instrumental in providing alternative educational opportunities for students who have faced significant challenges in traditional school settings.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education/Language Arts and a Master of Science in School Leadership from the University of South Alabama. Additionally, he earned a Doctor of Education Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Throughout his career, Dr. Newell has held various influential roles. He served as Chief of Staff for the Rhode Island Department of Education, where he was involved in strategic planning and policy development. He also led school turnaround efforts in Mobile, focusing on improving underperforming schools and enhancing student outcomes.
Under his leadership, MAEF has made significant strides in transforming education in Mobile County. The foundation has focused on creating excellent schools, engaging communities, and building education and workforce partnerships to ensure every child is career-ready.
Dr. Newell’s vision and dedication have been crucial in fostering collaborations between educators, businesses, and community leaders, all aimed at providing a high-quality education for all students in the region.

Elizabeth P. Stevens serves as the President and CEO Emeritus of the Downtown Mobile Alliance (DMA), a consortium of three nonprofits working to support the development of a 75-block area in downtown Mobile. The Alliance delivers and
promotes services including beautification, marketing, and community development. Prior to her work with the DMA, Stevens headed Main Street programs in Mobile and in Conway, South Carolina.
Stevens joined the ADAH Board of Trustees in 2017. Her other volunteer service includes board membership for the Barton Academy Foundation, Springboard to Success, and Visit Mobile.
Stevens is a graduate of the College of Charleston and a member of the 2014-15 class of Leadership Alabama.

Dr. Frankie Mathis has been employed by Saraland City Schools since the district’s formation in 2008. During her tenure, Mathis served in various administrative roles, most recently as assistant superintendent and interim superintendent.
Over the last ten years, some of her professional endeavors included renewal of a National Board certification in Adolescent and Young Adult Mathematics, attainment of a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, completion of the Superintendent’s Academy through the University of Alabama, and service as an adjunct mathematics instructor at Spring Hill College. As a life-long learner, teaching and serving as an instructional leader is her passion.

The Downtown Mobile Alliance is an organization committed to the revitalization and promotion of downtown Mobile. Through initiatives like beautification projects, business support, and events, the Alliance works to make downtown Mobile a thriving, attractive destination for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
Visit Mobile is the official tourism organization for Mobile, dedicated to promoting the city as a premier travel destination. It provides information and resources for visitors, including guides on local attractions, events, dining, and accommodations. The Mobile Area Education Foundation (MAEF) is a nonprofit organization focused on improving educational outcomes for students in the Mobile area. It works in partnership with schools, businesses, and the community to enhance educational opportunities, support innovative programs, and advocate for effective policies. MAEF aims to ensure that all students have access to high-quality education, helping to prepare them for future success and contributing to the overall development and prosperity of the region.
Bishop State Community College is a comprehensive, state-supported community college offering a wide range of academic and technical programs. It serves a diverse student body with opportunities for associate degrees, certificates, and workforce training. With a strong emphasis on accessibility and student success, Bishop State provides quality education, career development, and community engagement, helping students achieve their educational and professional goals while contributing to the local economy.
The University of South Alabama (USA) is a public research university offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. Known for its strong emphasis on research, healthcare, and engineering, USA provides a comprehensive educational experience with a focus on innovation and community engagement. The university is home to a vibrant campus life, state-of-the-art facilities, and a diverse student body, contributing significantly to the educational, cultural, and economic development of the region.
The Saraland City School System opened its doors in 2008. The system is comprised of four schools—Saraland Early Education Center (PK1), Saraland Elementary School (grades 2-5), Saraland Middle School (grades 6-8), and Saraland High School (grades 9-12).
Since its inaugural year, student enrollment has increased from 1,535 to 3,325. The following is the current student enrollment at each campus: Saraland Early Education Center - 535, Saraland Elementary School - 952, Saraland Middle School - 751, and Saraland High School - 1,087.
74% of the student population is White, 16% is Black/African American, and the remaining percentage is comprised of Hispanic, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and other races. 50% percent of Saraland students receive free/reduced lunch. Saraland City School System employs 368 persons, of whom 225 are teachers.
The pupil-teacher ratio is 15:1.
