The2021 22schoolyearwasfullofadventure,discovery,andgrowingforouryoungestPanthers. Our faculty began the year with a flexible posture, knowing to expect the unexpected. Thanks to the talented teachers and staff at Wesley Prep, our children were not the wiser We returned to business as usual: building brains and lifelong learning foundations in the MDO and Preschool classrooms Wewerethrilledtowelcomeparentsbackintothebuildingagaintoseethemagicwiththeirown eyes Moments of drop off and pick up, treasured traditions such as the 3s Thanksgiving program, Donuts with Dads, and regular chapel services for Preschool students, provided a window into our school days. Joy filled the hallways as we marveled at the wonder of learning anddiscoverythatcanonlybeexperiencedthroughachild'seyes. The Early Childhood experience at Wesley Prep is child centered. We understand that 80% of a child's brain is developed by the age of three, and by five years old, 90% of the brain is formed. At the heart of all learning, our teachers prioritize relationships and connections with our students. To achieve a whole child approach to learning, we are intentional at each age level with our scheduling, developmentally appropriate lessons, activities, and experiences. Additionally, our environment provides individualized, hands-on, experiential, student-centered experiences for learners.
All stakeholder groups consistently described our culture with the word “joyful" and our core values with the word "kindness". Our teachers provide an impactful learning environment that supports student relationships with adults, promotes student leadership, and prepares them for future success.
Not only are our students joyful, but they are also extremely high performing. The team was impressed with the three years of testing data we provided. Our teachers love working at Wesley Prep, many of them describing it as the most supportive environment in which they have ever worked.
Our board is doing a wonderful job of aligning with best Thepractices.Executive Director, the administration team, and the board have done a wonderful job strategically hiring to put Wesley Prep in the best position to seamlessly navigate the Executive Director’s retirement and the transition to new leadership. Our students were described as articulate, well-mannered, bright, gracious, and confident.
Everyone in all stakeholder groups clearly loves Wesley Prep!
Wesley Prep has an effective, supportive culture with strong leaders who engage stakeholders to understand our mission to empower joyful leaders through academics and integrity.

C E S S Page15 End-of-YearReview Wesley Prep's testing data shows that our students consistently perform above grade level in all subject areas. In fact, our longitudinal data indicates that students who remain at Wesley Prep through 6th grade double and sometimes triple their growth with each passing year.

In addition to school-wide projects, Wesley Prep 4th graders engage in The Common Ground Experiment, a yearlong opportunity to build relationships through creative collaboration with members of the community who have different life experiences than our own. In the past, 4th graders have worked with friends experiencing homelessness at Austin Street Shelter, recently resettled refugees at Heart House, and those interning at Cafe Momentum and working at Bonton Farms. What we learn about and from our neighbors is invaluable, and our children lead the way in making authentic connections as they create something alongside new friends. The openness of our students paves the way for the adults to build connections, too. This year, our 4th grade partnered with Wesley Rankin Community Center. Initial challenges presented by Covid forced the students to build relationships through letters and video messages, but students were eventually able to initiate a community garden project with WRCC as well as fund the effort through t-shirt sales and being awarded two grants. The community garden will eliminate property taxes on the property for the agency and will provide a valuable food resource for families in the area We look forward to continuing to Phase 2 of the project and increasing the impact of the collaboration.
