WISHING YOU A HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Dear Friends,

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas!

At this time of year full of celebration, we want to say a massive thank you! We are so grateful for your interest in WeSeeHope and for your support, and really look forward to keeping in touch throughout 2025.

In this holiday season, here is a short inspiring story about an incredible young person we are so proud to be working with.

At just 15, both of Fiona’s parents had passed away and she was carrying the enormous responsibility of caring and providing for her four siblings and their grandmother. Her youngest sister, Sandra, was only 5 years old at the time.

Like other households in a similar situation, Fiona used to make do with a very low income. Even with the little she made from helping tend to her neighbors’ food gardens, everyday was a struggle for survival and their basic needs - food, shelter, education - all suffered at the hands of extreme poverty and a lack of support.

Despite these incredibly challenging circumstances, Fiona has made remarkable progress over the past two years and her family is now thriving.

Through our Child Headed Households Program, WeSeeHope has supported Fiona to start her own grocery shop. We have trained her in farming skills so that she can grow her own food and have extra produce to sell, and provided her with goats which are a further source of sustenance and income.

Grasping these simple opportunities alongside training and mentorship, Fiona has grown her annual income to around 1,100,000 Ugandan Shillings in the past year, equivalent to $300. Asked what this has meant for her and her family, Fiona replied:

“My income helps me to support my family and improve our standard of living. We are now eating three meals a day and my siblings are all back in school. I have been able to buy a cow and I have invested in a toilet and bathroom.”

And from our data, we know that the average annual income for young people we support through the program reaches $750 after their third year of training. This means that Fiona is well on her way to lifting her family out of extreme poverty.

Thank you for your continued support, we are so grateful.
