about the event Presidential Decree No. 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines (1974) mandates the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to coordinate the nationwide celebration of Nutrition Month every July each year. The objective of the Nutrition Month celebration is to increase awareness on nutrition. Since then, the NNC has spearheaded the annual celebration of Nutrition Month along a theme that focuses on a priority concern in nutrition. For 2016, the Nutrition Month celebration will focus on the First 1000 Days of Life with the theme: “First 1000 Days ni baby pahalagahan, para sa malusog na kinabukasan!” The First 1000 Days is the critical period from pregnancy and until the child reaches his/her second birthday. The First 1000 Days has been called the “golden window of opportunity” for building the foundation for the child’s ability to grow, learn and thrive. Given the slow rate of reduction in the prevalence of overnutrition, focusing on the First 1000 Days of lie will help address this double burden of malnutrition.
