Dear Members, It has been a strong start to the year at Wenty Leagues, with positive momentum across the Club and a continued focus on delivering for our members and community.
We are particularly excited about our new partnership with the Dedes Waterfront Group and the introduction of Alati. This collaboration represents an important step forward in enhancing our dining offering, and we look forward to welcoming members to experience this new chapter when it opens.
Our commitment to the community remains at the heart of everything we do. It is pleasing to see the continued strength of our community initiatives and the meaningful connections we are building through our Heart of Wenty programs and partnerships. The Club also continues to play an important role in bringing people together for life’s special moments. Whether it’s celebrating milestones, connecting with family and friends,

or simply enjoying time at the Club, Wenty Leagues remains a place for our community to come together.
We encourage all members to attend the upcoming Annual General Meeting on Sunday 24th May from 10am. The AGM is an important opportunity to stay informed, hear firsthand about the Club’s performance, and gain insight into the exciting projects and initiatives planned for the future of your Club.
Warm regards,

Ian McCann CLUB PRESIDENT

Dear Members,
It is both an honour and a privilege to step into the role of Chief Executive Officer at Wenty Leagues. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead a strong and community-focused organisation, and I look forward to building on the great work already underway across the Club.
We look forward to welcoming many members and guests into the Club to celebrate special occasions, including Mother’s Day and other important milestones throughout the year. Through Wenty Events, our dedicated team is ready to help create memorable celebrations, from milestone birthdays and engagements to christenings and more.
We have a number of exciting moments ahead, including the upcoming Magpie Family Fun Day on 5th July, which continues to be a highlight on the Club’s calendar. Held at Ringrose Oval, the day brings together our community for a great atmosphere, with three games of football providing the opportunity to support the Wenty Magpies.
Our Christmas in July raffles will provide another opportunity for members to come together and enjoy the atmosphere of the Club, while our Dollar Doors promotion will continue
to deliver value back to our members, with $100,000 being given away over five weeks.
As we move forward, our focus remains on delivering high-quality experiences, strengthening our connection with members, and continuing to evolve the Club.
I am proud to be part of Wenty Leagues at such an exciting time and look forward to leading the Club into its next phase of growth and connection with our members and community.
Warm regards,

Stuart Jamieson CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Our Alfresco space was alive with energy as we hosted our annual Seniors Wellness Fair in celebration of Seniors Week, in March. The event brought together seniors, local organisations, and health experts for a day focused on wellness, engagement, and connection. With a goal of empowering our older members and guests, the fair provided access to health services, educational resources, and interactive activities designed to encourage active, healthy living.
Attendees explored a wide range of experiences, from Heart Checks with Heartbeat of Sport to brain training exercises led by Age Lab. Local support organisations, including Seniors Rights Service, Assistance Dogs Australia, Sir Roden and Lady Cutler Foundation, Cumberland Men's Shed, New Age Hearing, and Cumberland City Council, provided guidance, information, and services tailored to seniors’ needs. We also showcased our sporting sub-clubs, highlighting opportunities for seniors of all abilities to stay active, engaged, and socially connected.
More than just a day of services, the fair became a celebration of community. Seniors mingled with service providers, exchanged experiences, and discovered practical resources to support their health and well-being. Vendors praised the enthusiasm and engagement of participants, noting how the event strengthened local connections and created meaningful opportunities for interaction. Many attendees left inspired, informed, and motivated to explore new ways to maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle.
A big thank you to everyone who donated and supported this meaningful cause.
Representatives from six Western Sydney rugby league clubs, including Wenty Leagues recently visited the New South Wales Rugby League Centre of Excellence to see the Changing Rooms program in action. The initiative, founded by former Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and New South Wales Blues player Paul Langmack, helps young people navigate challenges such as bullying, social media pressures, decisionmaking, and mental fitness. The program provides a safe space where participants can build resilience, discipline, and confidence. Following the visit, we committed to supporting the program’s delivery to expand its reach across the Cumberland Local Government Area.
The program has already shown promising results. Last year’s targeted pilot with the NSW Police Youth Command saw school suspensions among participants drop from eight to zero, while negative behavioural incidents decreased by 48 per cent. The visit concluded with handshakes and smiles, reflecting the shared commitment of local clubs to creating positive pathways and life-changing outcomes for at-risk young people across Western Sydney.

We were delighted to deliver more than 50 handmade trauma teddies on behalf of the Karabi Knitting Group to support Little Wings. These cuddly companions provide comfort to children travelling to important medical appointments at The Children’s Hospital at
Westmead, helping ease the stress of long journeys and hospital visits. Families have shared their gratitude, highlighting how much the teddies mean to their children during challenging times.
This collaboration between our team, the Karabi Knitting Group, and Little Wings demonstrates how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference. By providing comfort and support, the initiative reassures children and families across New South Wales that they are not alone.
Youth Off The Streets recently hosted its muchanticipated Annual Netball Gala Day, bringing together students from five schools across Sydney and the South Coast, New South Wales for a day of sport, connection, and community. Teams competed in friendly yet competitive matches, building teamwork, confidence, and positive peer relationships, while cheers and encouragement created a vibrant and supportive atmosphere throughout the venue.
We were proud to support the event, with staff volunteering to help deliver activities and strengthen the partnership between our organisations. While the games were exciting, the true highlight was seeing students encourage one another, celebrate each goal, and embrace the spirit of the day, demonstrating how sport can inspire confidence, friendships, and a stronger sense of community.

We are proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the highly regarded Dedes Waterfront Group, bringing a fresh dining experience to the Club with the introduction of Alati.
Set to transform the Club’s existing restaurant space, Alati will introduce a contemporary Greek dining destination that celebrates seasonal flavours and the joy of shared dining. The menu will feature many Greek favourites, alongside modern dishes that resonate with Sydney diners today.
With more than 40 years of experience, Dedes Waterfront Group is behind some of Sydney’s most recognised hospitality destinations, known for quality, authenticity and memorable dining experiences.
The addition of Alati will also reintroduce an à la carte-style dining experience at Wenty Leagues, complementing the Club’s broader food offering, including The Plaza and the recently opened Arbor café.
Wenty Leagues President, Ian McCann said the agreement represents another strategic step in strengthening the Club’s already diverse and highquality dining portfolio.

Wenty Leagues has long been recognised for the strength of its food and beverage offering. Partnering with Dedes Waterfront Group further enhances that reputation and reintroduces an à la carte-style experience that complements The Plaza and our recently opened Arbor café. This is about continuing to evolve while building on the strong foundation we already have.
Founder of Dedes Waterfront Group, Con Dedes, said the group was excited to bring its expertise to Western Sydney.
The introduction of Alati marks an exciting new chapter for Wenty Leagues, reinforcing the Club’s position as one of Western Sydney’s leading hospitality venues.
Alati will focus on quality produce, contemporary Greek flavours and warm hospitality. Our goal is to create a restaurant that feels elevated yet welcoming, and one that becomes a destination for both members and the wider Sydney market.
More details, including opening dates and launch events, will be shared in the coming months.

Wenty Leagues takes great pride in its rich history, built on the dedication, generosity and spirit of its Foundation Members. In this issue, we honour two remarkable individuals whose contributions and legacy continue to shape our Club.
We remember Mr Eric Griffiths, who recently passed away at the age of 95. A true pioneer of Wenty Leagues, Eric became a member on 1 July 1958 and played a significant role in the Club’s earliest days. He was one of just 46 Foundation Life Members who committed to contributing ten pounds, an amount that, at the time, exceeded a week’s wage for many. This collective effort formed a vital part of the Club’s initial fundraising vision.

Newspaper Advert 1958

We also celebrate Mr Eric Lobsey, who has recently reached the incredible milestone of his 100th birthday. A Foundation Member since 1959, his century of life reflects a long and meaningful connection to the Club.
Together, these two men represent both remembrance and celebration, reminding us of where we began and how far we have come. Wenty Leagues extends its deepest gratitude to all Foundation Members, past and present.
A strong start to the year at Wenty Leagues Bowling Club
After a refreshing Christmas and New Year break, it has been wonderful to see the greens at Wenty Leagues Bowling Club buzzing with activity once again. Members have returned in strong numbers, and the new year is already shaping up to be another exciting chapter for the club both on and off the greens.
Greens Looking Superb
Both greens are now back in play following their summer maintenance program and the feedback from members has been overwhelmingly positive. Members are reminded to check the roll-up board above the bottom mat box before heading onto the green each day. The board provides guidance on which greens and playing directions are available. Following these instructions helps maintain even wear across both surfaces and ensures the greens remain in top condition throughout the season.
Success on the Big Stage
Wenty bowlers continue to perform strongly both locally and beyond. One of the most remarkable achievements recently came from the Swan family combination, who captured the prestigious South Pacific Fours title once again. The victory marked their third triumph in four years, an extraordinary run that highlights both their consistency and the depth of talent within the Wenty ranks.
Matty Swan and Cameron Curtis captured the Metro North-West Pairs title, earning their place in the upcoming State Playoffs. The pair have been in excellent form and will carry the support of the entire Wenty community as they prepare for the next stage of competition.
Meanwhile, our own Marg Mitchell was a part of the Metro North-West women’s side delivered a terrific performance at the State Region Sides Finals in Yamba, finishing runners-up after a strong campaign.
Community and Competition
The club’s annual Australia Day bowls event once again proved to be a highlight of the social calendar. The greens were packed with players enjoying a day filled with competitive bowls, laughter and great Aussie spirit.
Events like this continue to showcase what makes Wenty special — a welcoming community where competition and camaraderie go hand in hand. Club championships are also producing exciting contests early in the season, including the recent Mixed Pairs Final which provided spectators with a high-quality display of bowls.

Pennant Season Underway
The Open Gender Pennant season is now underway, with the opening rounds producing mixed but encouraging results across the grades. Several Wenty teams have made promising starts and will be looking to build momentum as the competition progresses.
Learning from the Best
A highlight of the early season was the club’s Pennant Induction Night, which proved both informative and inspiring for members preparing for the year ahead.
Experienced players shared valuable insights into tactics and match play, while guest speaker Professor Andrew Gardner captivated the audience with his observations on the mental side of the game.
Wenty Among the Elite
Across New South Wales there are many bowling clubs — but only a select few compete at the highest level. The club’s Platinum Pennant side has also begun strongly, recording two wins and a narrow loss in the opening rounds. A recent home match drew tremendous support from members and the team responded with an impressive performance. The atmosphere around the greens was a great reminder of the pride and passion that surrounds Wenty’s top-level competition.
Wenty Leagues Bowling Club is proud to be one of only twelve Platinum-status clubs in the state, competing in the prestigious TAB Platinum Pennant competition. At the halfway point of the season, the Wenty Magpies sit equal third on the ladder and well placed to push for a spot in the final’s series.
Excitement is already building for upcoming events, including the popular Wenty Battlers Tournament on Easter Monday, which is already fully booked with reserve teams waiting.
With championships unfolding, pennant races intensifying and major events on the horizon, there is plenty for members and supporters to look forward to in the months ahead.
One thing is certain — the greens are rolling beautifully, the competition is fierce, and Wenty bowlers are ready for another big year!
Cameron Curtis, Bowls Co-ordinator
It has been a very encouraging period for the club, with consistent performances across multiple grades. We have 7 teams playing finals.
On behalf of the club, we would like to wish all teams the very best of luck in the finals. We encourage members, families and supporters to get down to the grounds and support our players as they compete for premiership success.
Looking ahead, the club continues to focus on player development and participation throughout the year. We will once again be entering teams in the upcoming junior winter cricket competition, providing young players with additional opportunities to continue developing their skills during the off-season.
In addition, the club will be running a winter training program, designed to help players improve their technical skills, fitness and overall game awareness.
Preparations are also underway for the next cricket season, with registrations opening soon. We encourage all returning and new players to keep an eye out for registration announcements and secure their place early.
Finally, members are asked to note the following important club dates:
• Senior Presentation Night: 15 May
• Junior Presentation Day: 17 May
• Annual General Meeting (AGM): 25 May
We thank all players, families, volunteers and supporters for their continued contribution to the club and look forward to an exciting finish.

On 13 December 2025, our last fishing trip out of Kiama saw us fishing in 120 metres of water until 11am before moving to shallower grounds, where we were unable to hold the bottom. There were seven members on board, and the catch included 19 flathead, two snapper, and large numbers of sergeant baker and mackerel. The biggest fish was a 1.12kg flathead caught by Charlie H, while Lewis M recorded the biggest bag.
On 21 January 2026, we had our first trip on the new boat out of Sydney. It was a great day on a clean, spacious vessel, and a solid feed of fish was caught. The catch included 16 morwong, 10 snapper, two leatherjackets, three pigfish, three flathead, four sergeant baker, and six sweep. The biggest fish was a snapper caught by Nader, while Steve took out the biggest bag at 1.7kg.
On 18 February 2026, it was a beautiful day to be on the water, although strong currents caused a few tangles. The catch included 11 morwong, nine flathead, one pigfish, and one trevally. Frank caught the biggest fish, a 1.3kg trevally, and Lewis recorded the biggest bag at 2.5kg.
On a recent small boats trip to Greenwell Point, five members attended across two boats. Friday’s weather was typical of the South Coast— calm in the morning before the wind picked up—resulting in a modest catch of a few morwong and flathead. Saturday followed a similar pattern, so we headed out earlier. Kevin Rosso and Tracker caught three flathead, while Michael and Phill landed two morwong, one flathead, and a large rock cod. Although only five members attended, it was a fantastic weekend enjoyed by all.
Bill Van de Mortel
Well, here we go, nearly a quarter of the way into the year. I hope this report finds everyone well and settling into 2026.
We start with our Presentation Night that was celebrated in January. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up. Special congratulations to Jarod Simonetta who was our Clubman of the Year, Brian Adams winning the Guzzler of Guzzler and Ryan Payne as the club champion. I would also like to thank the members of the board that attended.
We have kicked off our 2026 calendar with the qualifying for the COW, well done to all those who progressed to the next round. Our next event was our Doubles Matchplay with the final played at Campbelltown on the 8th of March.
Line honours went to Brian and Josh Adams with the runners-up Steve Adams and Elvis Mircevski. Congratulations to all.
Our AGM took place in February which resulted in the election of our new committee members:
• President: Glen Grant
• Secretary: John Iocca
• Treasurer: Danny Chaiban
• Captain: Tim Willet
• Vice-Captain: Rob Ruffle
• Handicapper: Steve Adams
• Match Committee: Leon Plotkans, Jim Clarke and Norm Hindy
Congratulations to all those elected. It is my sincerest hope that we can double down on last year’s efforts and enhance our club for the benefit of all.
Our annual trip took place on the 15th of March to the Central Coast where we played three challenging courses. Newcastle, Pacific Dunes and Nelson Bay. We had mixed weather but still enjoyed our golf, with great company and encouraging feedback from the members.
So far, we have had nine guzzlers over our first ten rounds. Unfortunately, we had a washout at Glenmore Park.
The first three clubman positions are John Iocca (61pts), Brian Adams (51pts) and Frank Pagano (47pts).
However, only one jackpot has gone off since my last report. This was achieved by Frank Soballa at Windsor on the 17th hole. Congratulations!
Finally, we have had more new members join us which is always great news. Richard Crook, John Alha and Sam Testalamuta who have obtained their handicaps as well as Tony Khouri and Anthony Assarati. Welcome to everyone.
That about wraps up March. We are always looking for new members so if you are interested or know someone, please check the sub club website for contact details.
Kind Regards.
Glen Grant, President
Goshin Ju-Jitsu teaches a system of unarmed defensive techniques, using an attacker’s momentum against them, which is traditionally based and adapted for modern day situations. It is a modern form of the ancient Ju-Jitsu system, where knowledge, not strength, is required to defeat your attackers.

Our year commenced on a high with a strong re-enrolment rate and a significant influx of new students across both the junior and senior classes.

The club has been around for over 60 years and is still going strong thanks to the support of Wenty Leagues Club and our members. The committee meets on the first Monday of every month to discuss new and ongoing matters and to make decisions that benefit the Sub-Club. Every financial Snooker Club member is welcome to attend. New felt and table markings were installed on the five snooker tables in February this year, making the tables easier and more enjoyable to play on.
Snooker cues and jiggers have been sanded to make them safer to handle, and some older cues have been replaced with new ones. All club balls are cleaned regularly to improve shot accuracy during play.
We look forward to your continued support and participation this year. Regards,

Western District Autumn Pennant Competition 2026.
The Autumn Pennant competition commenced early in March 2026. I am pleased to report that the Squash Club was successful in forming 16 teams to play in that competition, the same number of teams that was entered in the Western District Spring Competition in 2025. The players in these teams are graded according to individual performance rankings and so often include both men and women. The Autumn Pennant competition is played over 15 home and away rounds, followed by semi-finals and finals in June 2026.
Squash Court shortage in the Western District
There is a critical shortage of squash courts in the Western Sydney. For this reason, squash courts at Bossley Park are being used for the first time as home courts for four Squash Club teams. While this arrangement is less than ideal, no other options were available. This critical shortage of squash courts is hampering the growth of competition squash in the Western District which now has by far the smallest district competition in metropolitan Sydney. Meanwhile, the other 12 Squash Club teams continue to use squash courts at Northmead as their home courts. The CEO of Squash NSW, Scott Murray, has continued to advocate for new squash courts to be constructed in Western Sydney, although so far without success.
Squash Club Presentation Dinner
The Annual Squash Club Presentation Dinner was held at Wenty Leagues Club on Sunday 8th March. Trophies and prizes were presented to members of teams that won in Divisions 1, 2, 3 and 4 and members of teams that finished as runners up were acknowledged. Trophies and prizes were presented also to those successful in the Club Championships which began in December 2025 and concluded in February 2026. To conclude the evening, the much-anticipated Club Person of the Year was announced. The winner was Bernard Worsley, the Secretary of the Squash Club whose tireless work for members seemingly knows no bounds. Congratulations Bernard!

Lastly, the Squash Club Committee gladly acknowledges the excellent Wenty Leagues Events Team staff who worked hard to make the Presentation Dinner a great success. Thank you, your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Graeme Mitchell, President
Many thanks to all members who attend each Sunday morning and participate in the allocated races. With every race meeting there are also those members who do not swim but assist with the running of the morning swim, those being John McCann, Maureen McCann, Beverley Lamont, Patricia Jolly, and on occasions, Karen Harding and Gloria Bugden who also assist with timekeeping. Also, a mention to David Burns who has foregone his events to start the races on the odd occasion that John was not available.
For the majority of the 2025 season, we were lucky with the weather but on the odd Sunday when mother nature was not kind to us, with a quick ring around or text message being sent it was decided that in the best interests and the safety of members that the swim be cancelled.
We commenced our season with members attending the Castle Hill Carnival in January 2025 with Jessica Seaborn and David Burns winning their respective 50 metre open events. Other members also gained a top three placing in the handicap events and Brace Relays. Unfortunately, a little bit more tactical effort will be needed for us to threaten the judge for the 1 O person relay events, but we entered a team in the event and that was the main aim of the day with all team members being nominated.
During the month of February 2025 - Jessica Seaborn, David Burns, Didier Ballgobin together with Tim Miller (swimming for Blacktown Diggers) attended the Dee Why Black Swan Swim. Jessica Seaborn and David Burns again won their respective Open events.
Didier will not forget his first Dee Why Carnival being booked for overstaying his parking time. However, if you listen to Didier he will say that the parking meter was not working. But this was later resolved with Didier not being required to pay any fine.
At the Presentation Dinner for the 2024 season in March, we congratulated Jessica Seaborn and Tim Miller on their engagement with their wedding planned for later in 2026. We ceased the first half of our Swim Season on the last Sunday in March 2025.
We were to travel to Dubbo in June but due to lack of numbers as was seen at the 2024 swim, the Dubbo Ducks decided to cancel their carnival for the 2025 year. But that did not stop two our members, Sean Henly and Didier Ballgobin from still travelling to Dubbo for the June weekend to honoured their paid air fare and also not to miss out on their evening meal at their favourite Indian Restaurant so we hope that they had an enjoyable weekend.
All members were invited to a luncheon at the Leagues Club during August to reconnect over the winter break.
We recommenced our swim season in October each Sunday weather permitting concluding our 2025 season with the second week of Championships on 14 December 2025 with a further luncheon held at the Leagues Club following the swim.
Again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of Wentworthville Leagues Swimming Club who both participate in the allocated races and those who assist with the running of the swim events
of a Sunday morning and who also attend events on behalf of the Club away from the normal Sunday swim as without your support we would have a Swimming Club.

How quickly it has come around, season 2026 begins this weekend with the Ron Massey at home to Manly.
2026 begins a new era for the District Club, whilst still catering for the women’s premiership and the Ron Massey squads we have also gained the Sydney Shield.
This will provide a much clearer distinction with the District Club looking over NSWRL Major Competitions and Wentworthville United controlling all Community Rugby League from U/6’s through to women’s and men’s open competition or ‘A’ Grade. 2026 also sees the renaming of the Women’s Harvey Norman competition to the NSW Women’s Premiership.
2026 will also see major changes to coaching roles and staff especially with Brett Cook stepping down from the Ron Massey head coaching position. Brett, a previous player with Wentworthville, has been coaching with the District Club since 2007 including 4 premierships in 2009, 2010, 2018, and 2019. Brett will now assume the role of Football Operation Manager.
Long serving head trainer, Tim Bottle, is also stepping aside from 2026. Tim, also a previous player of the Wentworthville Club, has been a trainer with the District Club since 2008 but remains within the fraternity and has renewed his trainer credentials if he is required throughout the season, and will bring vast experience with Tim being elected to the Board of Directors for the District Club at February’s AGM.
Congratulations to Nathan Carr who will assume the role of head coach for the Ron Massey from 2026. Nathan has been in the Parramatta junior reps. environment for several years and an assistant coach at NSW Cup level in the past and coached the Sydney Shield at Wentworthville in 2024 and 2025.
With the inclusion of the Sydney Shield to the District Club the process of electing a new coach and staff was thrust upon us, a position that was relatively new for our Board. After a lengthy process Darryl Hamilton became the successful candidate and once again brings a long history of achievements including guiding Penrith Brothers to the Sydney Shield 2024 premiership. Welcome aboard Darryl and all your staff.
As mentioned in a previous report our women’s coach from 2024 and 2025, Lino Salafai, also stepped down from his role at the completion of last season. Once again, the difficult task of finding a replacement began and after so many exceptional resumes and candidates we are proud to announce that we have secured the services of Renee Targett as the Women’s Premiership head coach for 2026. Renee brings the experience of playing at NRLW level and coaching Harvey Norman at St George in previous years and displays a great understanding and passion for the game and we wish Renee and her crew all the best for the upcoming season.
As mentioned before, round 1 for the Ron Massey and Sydney Shield is scheduled for the weekend of 21 & 22 March with the Ron Massey at home to Manly on Saturday 21 March and Sydney Shield have the BYE. Round 3 will see both teams at home v Glebe on Sunday 12 April with kick-off times being 12.00pm and 2.00pm. Round 1 for the Women’s Premiership begins for Wenty on Saturday the 13th June at home at 4.00pm v Illawarra.
Other dates of note, Sunday the 5th of July we will celebrate our yearly and traditional ‘Family Fun Day’, first game at 11.15 am, and then for all the old boys, we will be holding the annual Back to Wenty day on Saturday 1 August with the Sydney Shield starting the proceedings from 4.00pm.
