The Wenty Leagues Bowling Club, has been abuzz with excitement and achievements during the 2022-23 bowling season. Let’s take a moment to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments and look ahead to the upcoming events that promise to bring more success to our vibrant bowling community.

Janice Patten & Sue Cunningham, Champions of the Merrylands 5 Year & Under Tournament!!

The season kicked off with the Merrylands 5 Year & Under Tournament, where budding talents showcased their skills. Amongst them, Janice Patten and Sue Cunningham shone brightly, emerging as the champions of this prestigious event. Their tenacity and dedication served as inspiration for the club’s aspiring bowlers!!

visitors. Twenty-thousand dollars in prize money was shared over the week. The festivities culminated in a spectacular gala dinner attended by 200 people. The evening was filled with laughter, shared memories, and an overwhelming sense of pride for the club’s accomplishments over the six decades.

State Pennant Playoffs |

Grade

4 Quarter-finalist’s Wenty Leagues’ Grade 4 team delivered a commendable performance in the State Pennant Playoffs, reaching the quarterfinals. While they were eventually defeated by Wingham BC, it is worth noting that Wenty Leagues 4s was the only club to triumph over the eventual State Champions, St Johns Park. This outstanding achievement is a testament to the club’s determination and competitive spirit, which also saw our Grade 1s win their way to Forster and also Grade 6 that competed at Warilla on the South Coast.

Women’s Consistency Singles Championship

The Women’s Consistency Singles Championship witnessed an unforgettable final showdown. Sue Cunningham and Di Worthington engaged in a gripping battle that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. In a nail-biting finish, Sue Cunningham emerged as the winner, edging past Di Worthington with a slender score of 120 to 119. The skill and sportsmanship displayed by both players earned the admiration of their peers.

Women’s Single Gender State Pennants

As August approaches, anticipation grows for the commencement of the Women’s Single Gender State Pennants. Bowlers from Wenty Leagues are gearing up to showcase their prowess and compete against some of the best talent in the state. With their experience and camaraderie, they are ready to take on this challenge head-on in Grades 1, 3 and 4.

Celebrating the Champions of 2022-23 Bowling Season

In early June, Wenty Leagues held its prestigious bowls presentation luncheon to recognise and honour the champions of the 2022-23 season. The respective men’s and women’s Bowlers of the Year’ accolades were bestowed upon Matty Swan and Chrissy Cadman, recognising their consistent excellence and remarkable performances. The club also celebrated the tremendous progress made by John Champion and Sue Cunningham, acknowledging them as the ‘Most Improved Bowlers’ for the year. These exceptional bowlers serve as a source of inspiration for the entire Wenty Leagues community.

Wenty Leagues 60th Anniversary Week of Bowls

A significant milestone for the club, the Wenty Leagues 60th Anniversary Week of Bowls, was a grand celebration of the sport’s rich heritage and the club’s enduring legacy. A whopping 132 teams participated in various competitions throughout the entire week of tournament play, fostering a true sense of community and camaraderie among members and

Embracing the New Season

As the new season unfolds, the excitement is palpable at Wenty Leagues Bowls Club. The Major Singles Championship for both men and women promises to deliver thrilling encounters and fierce competition. Additionally, the Women’s District Championships, Men’s Zone 10 State Championships, and the Zone 10 Open Midweek Pennant are all set to kick off soon, adding more excitement to the bowls calendar.

In conclusion, Wenty Leagues Bowls Club has once again proven itself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of lawn bowls. The club is well-positioned to create more memorable moments in the 23-24 season. So let the games begin, and may the spirit of sportsmanship, fellowship, and competitive excellence continue to thrive at Wenty Leagues Bowling Club!

Cricket

Cricket club registrations have just opened, and initial numbers are quite healthy, hopefully we should have around same number of teams.

We will look to run our popular Cricket Blast program for our 6-10 years olds We had some of our kids attend a training session with thunder player Chris green this was well received and a fabulous opportunity for the players We have 2 changes to our committee with the retirement of Rob Willis, Aaron Martin (VP) and Hubert Jesuratnam (Treasurer). Wish to thank Rob for his efforts for many years at the cricket club.

We have been informed that one of our long term senior teams have been filming about the diversity of the cricket team and how Wenty Leagues have assisted with this, it’s a 5 part series and Kayo and Fox Sports have agreed to play this as part of the upcoming summer cricket season. Congratulations to all involved and keep an eye out for Park Cricket on your TV’s.

Darts

It’s been a big couple of months for the Dart Club. Our Division 1 men’s team won the Sydney Western Monday night competition and our Division 1 Mixed team came runner up in the Wednesday night competition.

Karl Korzuch has played for Wenty for many years and plays in both the men’s and the mixed teams, has now hit 300 “180’s” in Sydney Western Competitions. Karl is the only player ever to do so.

Andrea Hendley darts have been fantastic of late, has just been named to represent New South Wales in the National Championships next month, we wish her well.

Dave Shaw was nominated and accepted as a life member of the darts club.

Social darts on Friday nights is going very well and we welcome anyone that would like to give it a go to come on down, it’s always a fun night. See you all on Friday nights.

Dominos

Dominos is a game of intelligence. Tactics & probability are considerations to play well. Dominos are played each Thursday at 7.30 pm near the Magpie Bar. Payment of $1 is required by 7.15 pm to enable the draw to be made. Players usually play as a two person team and teams are drawn at random. There may be a singles or triples game depending on the number of starters. Most games finish around 9 pm.
