Three Sous Chefs and a Kitchen!

Allow us to introduce you to the unsung kitchen heroes at Wenty! Our Sous Chefs are the secret sauce behind the extraordinary flavours that you experience when you dine with us. With creativity on the boil, they’re rewriting the culinary rulebook one dish at a time.

Sous Chef Ferdinand

How long have you worked at Wenty Leagues?

I have worked at Wenty Leagues 4.5 years. During this time I have gained invaluable skills and have created some wonderful working relationships with all of my colleagues.

What made you decide to become a chef?

Growing up I enjoyed watching and helping my

Mum cook. Down the track when it was time to start working, I found myself enjoying cooking more than anything else, so I studied to become a chef.

What do you most enjoy about cooking?

I enjoy putting together a great plate of food, and I also enjoy the camaraderie of colleagues working together and having fun in the kitchen.

What is your favourite dish?

There are too many tasty foods in the world – it is hard to pick a favourite!

Sous Chef Jarod

How long have you worked at Wenty Leagues?

I started at working at Wenty around 14 years ago as a Bartender, in the warehouse, on the gaming floor and as a waiter in Lucidos Restaurant before I started my Chef Apprenticeship at Wenty. I left Wenty for a short time to work at Rockpool Bar and Grill and gain some experience as a young chef. I came back and now I am now approaching 10 years.

What is your favourite dish?

My favourite food to eat is Thai, but I have always loved making Pizzas and cooking a BBQ.

How long have you worked at Wenty Leagues?

I am coming up to my two year mark working at Wenty.

What made you decide to become a chef?

Cooking is something that has always interested me. After studying to become a chef, I had experience working in 5 star hotels and on large cruise ships, which was an incredible experience and made me realise my passion for cooking.

What do you most enjoy about cooking?

I love experimenting with different flavours and love the idea that each culture and style of cooking concentrates on different flavours.

What made you decide to become a chef?

Studying hospitality & food technology in High School, I fell in love with all things food and found that I was good at cooking. I especially love cooking for family and friends! I learnt how to cook from my Mum and Dad and grew it into a passion.

Starting my first job in a Pizza Shop while I was a still in High School, I found I really enjoyed cooking and working in a kitchen. When I left School, I then begun studying Hospitality Management at Tafe and started working at Wenty. I learnt a lot in the first couple of years and the worked for Neil Perry at Rockpool Bar and Grill before coming back.

What do you most enjoy about cooking?

- Cooking for friends and family

- Cooking for Ronald McDonald house.

- Cooking for the community

What is your favourite dish?

International Western Dishes are my go-to.
