An UNcommon Creative Cultural Community Progress Report 1st Half 2022

Update: $56 million invested to date in the Creative Placemaking revitalization of Shreveport Common to create an UNcommon cultural community. Public and private partners, neighbors, developers and a dedicated Arts and artist community are transforming the formerly blighted 9-block area to a vibrant, walk-able urban neighborhood with spaces and places for all to stumble upon the FUN. To date, 29 properties - many on the states most endangered list - have been preserved and redeveloped to exciting new live, work and market spaces; 7 are under construction and 16 are in pre-development.

What’s New and Happening Soon Martin Welch Gallery Opens in the New Andress Artist & Entrepreneur Center

Everyday something new is happening in the 9-block area, with 206 events in 20 unique venues (2021 – First Qtr. 2022). Artist Martin Welch moved his gallery from the French Quarter to Andress Arts & Entrepreneur Center. 10 local artists are also located on the first floor. Upstairs some of Shreveport’s brightest entrepreneurs are working from unique office and shared spaces. Louisiana Food Prize Taco Wars 2022 a HOT Success! 10,000 come out for Tacos, Salsa, Music and FUN! This popular Food Prize event had record breaking crowds at its new location in Shreveport Common. 10 restaurants generated over $60,000 in revenue while they competed for cash prizes. Winners: El Novillo Carniceria won Golden Taco and Rameriz Mexican Restaurant won Best Salsa.
