New safer route to school for Wendover pupils The task of getting children to school in Wendover has been an increasing problem over the years. Now, there is a safer alternative than braving the gridlocked cars emitting potentially harmful exhaust. The canal towpath is a viable option for most pupils approaching on foot from the northern end of Wendover. “The laying of this path has taken longer than planned but the result will be very worthwhile. Wendover Canal Trust has reported that the upgrade will be completed to Perch Bridge by midOctober. The second phase to the centre of Halton is scheduled to be completed by January.” Peter Elwin, Wendover Canal Trust
The schools and other organisatio ns that share the Wharf Road campus hav e long striven to reduce the amount of traf fic in the local area during the school run tim es. We regularly engage in schemes and activities to encourage children and parents to walk, scoot or cycle to school. We are delighted that the We ndover Canal Trust has obtained fundin g for the renovation of the canal towpath between Wendover and Halton. This will provide an all-weather surface for childre n and parents to use to and from school. Not only will this help to reduce traffic on Wh and Manor Road, but will also pro arf vide a cleaner, greener route for children to enjoy.
