LIONEL ABEL-SMITH TRUST AGM

The 42nd Annual General Meeting of the Lionel Abel-Smith Trust took place on Wednesday 29 April. Despite not being able to hold our annual lunch, with invited guests, prior to the business part of the meeting, our Zoom held conference call was a great success with a total of £43,078 being awarded in grants. This brought the total awarded in grants during the year to £103,147.

The breakdown is as follows: • Education 31964 • Individual 9689 • Seniors 7409 • Medical 13879 • Organisations 40206

It was with much sadness that we accepted the resignation of our longest running Trustee, Tony Mogford MBE. Tony, as many of you will already know, was one of the three original members when the Trust was first founded in 1977 by the then Lord of the Manor, Lionel Abel-Smith, when it was known as the Wendover Community Trust.

He and Lionel held a great mutual respect for one another and Tony has always upheld Lionel’s basic principles for the Trust when making decisions.

Tony was the Chairman from 1977 until 2013 when Marion Clayton took over the office. Tony has worked tirelessly for the Trust for 43 years, never missing an AGM during the whole time. He has always gone the extra mile when helping applicants. He is a mine of information and his memory is second to none, remembering the details of applications made years previously.

As he means so much to the Trust – and us, we have appointed him Patron of the Lionel AbelSmith Trust ensuring continuing invaluable involvement. We are delighted that he has agreed to this.

On behalf of all the current and past trustees I wish to thank Tony for all his endless hard work and for the support and kindness he has shown to us, the trustees, and hundreds of applicants over the last four decades. Gwen Williams, Chair of the Trustees
