WENDOVER PARISH COUNCIL PROJECTS

During these challenging times it may be difficult to look forward positively; however, we will defeat the virus and Wendover Parish Council will mobilise again, reinvigorating the projects we have planned to improve the visual and ecological impact of Wendover as a rural setting.

Undaunted, we would like to highlight two projects we have planned for 2020: •Hampden Pond - The pond remains a focal feature of the village; however, it has been sadly neglected over the years. Walkers may wander around the pond, and until recently fishing was available. We are in discussions with a contractor to have the area landscaped. This will Include picnic tables, proper walkways for all, including the disabled, and planting in and around the pond to attract wildlife. It is early days and we expect the project to span 2 to 3 years; however, it will be worth waiting for. •Clock Tower Wall and Fountain - Those who know and love Wendover often comment on the Clock Tower, the wall and the fountain. Sadly, the wall is in a poor state of repair, not helped by maintenance previously completed using unsuitable cement. We have appointed a Project Manager qualified in this type of restoration to work with the appropriate agencies and recommend a suitable contractor to conduct the repairs. Consideration will also be given to reinstating the fountain so it may be used by the numerous visitors and walkers who regularly visit Wendover and the Chilterns.

The Orchard is partially established, and we hope to see some of the trees bearing fruit. This wild meadow area has been created for our community, and residents are very welcome to pick and enjoy the fruit.

Finally , we have asked Lindengate to help with the hanging baskets. Despite the cancellation of The Best Kept Village competition, providing they can plant them, we will be locating the baskets along the High Street. These remain difficult times; however, the spirit of Wendover residents, supported by the Parish Council Good Neighbour Scheme, will allow us to once again enjoy everything Wendover has to offer.

Keep safe and well. Cllr Stephen Worth, Chairman WPC Amenities Committee
