The NCW Fair Began in 1889... as the Douglas County Industrial Exposition. The Big Bend Round-Up was added shortly thereafter. In the early 1900’s, it was known as the Waterville Potato Carnival. It became the Douglas County Fair in the 1920’s and the North Central Washington District Fair in the 1940’s and remained so until 2005 when the “District” was removed. Commonly, the NCW Fair is also known as the “Fair in Waterville.”

From parades and picnics through Waterville to exhibits and animals at the Fairgrounds, the NCW Fair has been a premier event in Douglas County and North Central Washington for well over 100-years.

Indian Relay Race Relay teams consist of 3 horses and 4 people. 1 person is the jockey while the other 3 serve as the catcher and holders.

Horses have a bridle only and riders swing up and ride bareback. The race begins with each team assembled in front of the grandstands in their “circle”. The Indian Relay Race is a 50+ year old tradition during the NCW Fair, which accepts up to 12 entries.

Watch the Indian Relay Race as the final event of the Big Bend Round up on both Saturday and Sunday.

2018 NCW Fair Livestock Auction Saturday August 25th 10 A.M

The Livestock auction will be held in the Ellis Schneider Memorial Sale Arena during the NCW Fair. Stop by and visit with the 4-H and FFA kids and ask them about their animals! The auction is open to the public and absentee bids will be accepted if you are not able to attend. Invividuals and businesses are encouraged to support the 4-H and FFA youth by bidding on and purchasing the animals. Prior to the auction the animals will be weighed and graded. This information will be available on a bidder’s information sheet given out at the auction. Buyers of Champion & Reserve animals will have their photo taken with the 4-H or FFA member and their animal.

A Tradition 15 Years Strong… NCW Fair Petting Zoo History The Petting Zoo was started over 15 years ago by the Ellis Schneider Family. The “Zoo” started out with mostly animals that the Schneider family had on their farm with the addition of a few that had to be purchased. To obtain more animals Ellis, Debbie and Lucille could be found traveling all over North Central Washington to purchase animals up to 3 weeks before the Fair. With help from volunteers the Petting Zoo has always been a huge success. The exhibit even won the State Fair Commissioners Black and White award. The biggest problem with purchasing animals turned out to be what to do with them when the fair was over, which is how the raffle was started. Over the years the zoo has most definitely become a family affair for the Schneider’s. Some of the variety of animals that have been in the Petting Zoo are: Calves, Ewes and lambs, Milk Goats, Meat Goats and kids, Pigmy Goats, Weiner Pigs, Sow and Litters, Puppies, Kittens, Fish, Chickens, Baby Chicks, Ducks, Geese, Pot Belly Pigs, Miniature Horse, Bunnies, Guinea Pigs, Hamster’s, Doves and Parakeets.

Educating the public on the cost and care when owning a pet and providing a fun learning experience is the main goal of the exhibit. Volunteer truly keep this zoo running each year. One volunteer is Lynda Michaelson who helps find some of the smaller animals and cares for them sometimes up to 2 or 3 weeks before the fair. Seeing families come back year after year makes it all worthwhile, as well as the look of wonder on the face of a child or senior who has never seen nor touched a baby animal is priceless.
