Lake Chelan’s groomer is keeping pets cool, looking hot

Why such a following? The lady behind the trimming. “What makes it different? It’s Beth. She is not just a groomer,” Aversano said. “She interfaces with people beautifully. She knows her stuff because she worked so closely with vets. And she is very willing to part with her knowledge.”

Aversano, who splits time between Chelan and her other business on Bainbridge Island, first met Crawshaw when she needed a groomer for her own pets. With no nearby options, she called Petco in East Wenatchee and was put on a waiting list. Frustrated, she spoke with then manager Crawshaw and discovered not only did the groomer live in Chelan but also wanted to start her own business yet lacked the resources.

“The more we looked into it, the more we realized there was a real niche because not everyone can take their dog to Wenatchee,” Aversano said. “There was a need for quality, professional service, personal service, doing the best that you can, so I believed she (Crawshaw) could really deliver that service. She loves what she does.

She is passionate, so I was like, ‘OK, we have a great product and a great person.’ “

“Cats are 10 times more dangerous than dogs because cats are more unpredictable, and they are never happy to see you,” Crawshaw said. “But to be honest with you, I am more of a cat person than a dog person, and I have never been bitten by a cat while grooming them.”

For cats, Crawshaw just does shaving and nail care. But for dogs, she offers the works. Starting at $20, packages include a wash, trim, ear clean, nail care and a bow while add-ons make for a spa experience. Whether fido needs some help with shedding, fleas or that wet-dog smell, they have a package for your pooch.

And don’t forget, man’s best friend needs a facial once in a while.

Crawshaw has groomed pets since she was 17 years-old and said she can’t imagine doing anything else. She loves shopping for their boutique, from treats to toys to pet life jackets. She loves taking dogs on strolls as part of their daycare. And she even endures short tempers to give cats some cleaning.

“The blueberry facial is actually one of my favorites. It is an all natural, organic facial, and they use blueberries and a coconut cleanser. It gets rid of so much of the yuck and muck in their face,” Crawshaw said. “On white dogs, the blueberry helps reduce tear staining.

It cleans their eyes. It cleans their mouth. It makes them smell absolutely amazing.”

Packages can also be customized to have your pet lathered in oatmeal, medicated or whitening shampoos. Crawshaw said she strives to only buy green, organic products made in the United States.

“There is nothing I wouldn’t want to use for my own dog,” Crawshaw said.

Treating animals like her own pets is the same way Crawshaw runs the daycare. Instead of locking them in crates, she lets pups socialize within indoor picket fence stalls and takes them on routine walks if the temperature isn’t too hot.

Though the care isn’t overnight, their business hours offer an ideal solution for your workdays, lunch dates or Saturday at Slidewaters.

said. “I have the greatest job because I get to deal with different personalities. Every dog and cat is different.”

If you would rather stay and watch your pal get pampered, All for Paws’ unique building layout allows owners to witness the transformation from beast to beauty.

“There are dogs that come in that you know have not been groomed in a real long time, and they are really tangled and they are in rough shape,” Crawshaw said.

“You get to see them transform from really scared and uncomfortable to really relaxed and happy, and you know for that one animal you made a difference.”

This week at the Ruby Theatre: Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation

What is summer without a big action blockbuster?

The fifth film in the Mission: Impossible series is said to bring the most impossible mission for Ethan (Tom Cruise) and his team. The agents go on a globe-trotting mission after The Syndicate, an international group of spies plotting to take

down the world’s leaders. Yet don’t expect a ridiculous shower of explosions; director Christopher McQuarrie kept the film refreshingly restrained.

All Month: 425 Magazine’s Resort Home of the Year tour

summer highlights The 2015 summer and fall seasons are quickly filling with events unique to the area and boasting local flavor.

In mid-August plan for the three-day Lake Chelan Fine Arts Festival, held Aug. 14-15. Now in its 6th year, this event takes place in Riverwalk Park located in downtown Chelan.

Along with fine arts, crafts and music there’s a children’s area full of fun and adventure. One popular event is the silent auction where patrons will have the opportunity to bid on donated pieces of art from some of the top artists in the Chelan community.

The event is sponsored by the Lake Chelan Arts Council, and the proceeds go to support the local art community including the murals, sculptures and scholarships. More information can be found on their website at lakechelanartscouncil.com.

Hydro exhibition races will begin early Saturday morning, plus there’s a classic boat parts swap meet, wine barrel furniture, delicious food booths or enjoy the action from the beer and wine garden.

Back for a second year, the Manson Summer Nights Concert Series returns with an amazing lineup of artists performing their own new and original music from a variety of genres. They say you are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but if you were to judge Posh Boutique by its logo, you would get the right idea. Sleek, simple and stylish.

Open for three years, the shop distinguishes itself by not selling the typical bright beach wear you expect to find in tourist locales. Rather, they carry chic separates and handmade jewelry from Seattle, most of them in muted, nude shades.

Dresses with a vintage twist can be found from Frock Shop and blouses with artsy details from Gretty Zueger.
