Wembley Park Community Fund recipients announcement The Wembley Park Community Fund is led by Quintain in partnership with the London Borough of Brent, Wates, McLaren, John Sisk & Sons, and McAleer & Rushe. It aims to make a real difference to Brent residents by encouraging community engagement, participation and place-making through funding a variety of a community-led activities.

Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 have been awarded to charities, community and voluntary organisations adhering to three core themes: Better Places – making Brent a great place to live, work and visit Better Lives – supporting education, employment and good health Better Locally – ensuring local networks and services work effectively.

The organisations awarded range from The Promise Foundation which mentors young school children across Brent; to Hilltop Circle, delivering football training sessions and support to young people.

In support of Brent London Borough of Culture 2020, 40% of this year's funding pot has been allocated to arts and cultural projects in the borough. These funded projects include Intercultural Musicology, which runs free music workshops with instruments from around the world for young children and their parents; and the Unique Community charity which runs youth theatre sessions around the theme of language, and how it connects to identity and meaning.

COO of Quintain Since its inception two years ago, The Wembley Park Community Fund has supported 20 local projects. The funding has helped children, young people, the elderly and vulnerable adults. The funded projects have provided the local community with employment and work training, and wellbeing and sports activities.

The funded projects for this year: Brent Community Action on Dementia For the development of a dementia café.

Daniel's Den To continue the parent and toddler group at The Yellow, and start a Dads' group.

Every Person Is Capable (EPIC) For a men’s peer support group at The Yellow, training and an International Men’s Day event.

Hendon Youth FC For football coaching sessions and a holiday programme for young people aged 4-18 in Kingsbury.

Hilltop Circle Delivering football training sessions and support for young people in Stonebridge and Wembley.

Intercultural Musicology CIC For music workshops for children aged up to 12 and their parents at The Yellow, Wembley Park.

Latin American House For a cultural coordinator to organise a programme of Latin American cultural activities throughout the year.

Musicus CIC For music classes in Brent.

The Promise Foundation For a mentoring project for young school children in two Brent schools throughout the year.

Track Academy For a holiday programme of sports, education and enrichment activities for young people in Willesden.

Unique Community Charity For youth theatre sessions focused on the theme of language at The Yellow, Wembley Park.

Upswing Aerial Limited For a series of arts workshops for children in Brent.

Work Rights Centre For a Fundraising & Development Manager for an employment rights clinic in Wembley.

Progress & planned works Olympic Way

Contractor: Volker Fitzpatrick CCS Score: 39/50 Major upgrade of Olympic Way to include new lighting and banner arms, paving, security cameras and new public address system.

Progress to date includes: • New concrete, granite and clay paving on the west and centre lines • All 12 of the new light columns and banners installed • Completion of new tree pits and attenuation drainage • Completion of the first stage of works from Wembley Park Splay to Fulton Road (Fulton Road crossing completed) • New paving, lighting and services completed on Zones A and B, early works started on the Olympic Steps Key works taking place this quarter: • Piling and ground beams for the Olympic Steps ahead of Euro 2020

South West Lands

Contractors: McAleer & Rushe CCS Score: 45/50 Construction work continues on site, and will deliver 741 residential units and 4 retail spaces.

Progress to date includes: • All of the concrete frames are now complete • SWL03A (Phase 1) due to handover to Tipi W/C 19th August • SWL03B,4,5 (Phase 2) progressing ahead of programme • Block 3B apartment snagging due to commence 19th August • Block 3B contains 250 apartments Key works taking place this quarter: • Handover of Phase 1 • Snagging of Phase 2 apartments and progression of landscape works Completion: Phase 1 – August 2019 Phase 2 – early 2020

Contractor: McLaren Construction CCS Score: 44/50 Works continue to deliver 340 residential units and retail at ground floor level.

Progress to date includes: • Handover of first section of apartments and external amenity terrace • Fit out works ongoing to apartments and completing roof terraces • External groundwork progressing • New road and boulevard public space opened Key works taking place this quarter: • Continuation of internal fit out • Finalising external groundworks • Handover and completion of remaining apartments Completion: autumn 2019

Progress to date includes: • Scaffold strike • Envelope installation of brickwork and glazing • Fit out works including partitions, mechanical and electrical

Progress to date includes: • Completion of the structural steel to the coach park and the multi-storey car park • Applied finishes to the coach park has commenced giving the project its distinctive look • Electrical install for lighting services is well underway within the coach park

Contractor: McLaren Construction CCS Score: 46/50 The site will comprise two buildings, one being 150 homes and the second being a 126,000 sq ft office block.

Contractor: Huber CCS score: 38/50 The construction project is delivering a 290 space coach park with a 5-storey car park across the top.

Progress to date includes: • Scaffold struck, balconies installed and new paving works completed along First Way for Blocks F, E & D • Works to form the podium gardens has commenced outside Block F • Works to form the pond within the park has also commenced • The coach park interior fit-out is well underway • The Energy Centre at the front of the development has completed

Progress to date includes: • Site cleared of old welfare facilities associated with other developments nearby

Contractor: John Sisk and Sons Ltd CCS score: 45/50 The construction project is delivering 743 apartments, 91 space coach park, retail space along with a podium garden and community outdoor amenity space.

Key works taking place this quarter: • Cores on all blocks ongoing • All blocks frame ongoing

What's happening at Wembley Park 'Putting' mental health front of Mind

Pink on pink... On pink

This year's annual Charity Golf Day took place in early June whereby teams from Quintain, Tipi, Wembley Park and our contractors descended upon Moor Park Golf Club in aid of mental health charity Mind.

To celebrate the topping-out of the Pink Car Park constructed by Huber Car Park Systems, Huber decided to shine some light on breast cancer through their fundraising event for charity, Breast Cancer Now. Huber had encouraged all staff across all sites to wear pink to work and donate to the nominated charity.

Having been in the borough for over 40 years, Mind in Brent, Wandsworth and Westminster delivers high quality mental health services to both children and adults in Brent— supporting through housing, companionship, training and opportunities for service users.

Huber, in cooperation with all the sites across the Wembley Park project, managed to raise over £10,000 for Breast Cancer Now— and had donated Pink concert tickets in theme with the pink event, for the pink car park... that's a lot of pink!

We raised a total of £8,700 for the charity as a result of our fundraising efforts.

Plugging the skills gap June saw two members of the Wembley Park project team speak at a Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) event, in partnership with McLaren Construction Group.

The CIOB event was an evening of thought and reflection, in conversation with Anjali Pindoria, to investigate the attraction of the construction industry as a career to Generation Y, in order to ease the strain of labour shortages. The event featured speakers from Wembley Park and Sophie Turner from #YesSheCan to show how the issues are impacting the construction industry both today and in the future.

NCS's The Challenge As a part of the government-backed "National Citizens Service, the Challenge", the Wembley Park project office had hosted a visit accommodating a group of young Wembley school-leavers this August.

The young people were introduced to a professional office environment and were invited to present their plans for a Social Action Project they had designed, on behalf of a local charity they were working with.

Pitching to the Wembley Park Executive Director of Construction and the Head of Masterplanning & Design, the group received constructive feedback and advice before their final pitch the following day.
