Senior Support is continuing to work hard in 2026 to provide programs and services to our valuable senior communities in Comox Valley and Campbell River.
From the earliest years of our organization, growth has been part of our mandate. In 1992 we began offering peer counselling to seniors, providing emotional support to decrease isolation and to address gaps in services to seniors in the Comox Valley.
Before long, our services expanded to support seniors with transportation and housing challenges, prevention or elder abuse, and accessing information and resources. Many of these services have been, and still are, provided by trained volunteers.
In 2018 the Society changed its name to Comox Valley Senior Support Society to reflect the broader range of programs and services offered and to expand our volunteer base to include volunteers of all ages.
In 2024, our organization continued to grow and evolve. We were honoured to welcome Better at Home Campbell River, a United Way funded program, into our family of services. With this expansion, our Staff and Board of Directors developed a renewed vision, mission, and action plan to guide our work as we extend support throughout the North Island.

To better reflect the full scope of our programs and the communities we serve, we also embraced a new name and brand that brings all our services together under one unified identity.
We are now Senior Support North Vancouver Island. Also known as “Senior Support” in the community.
In Campbell River, this year we initiated a Community Connector program to assist seniors in developing networks of supports in their community. A Volunteer Coordinator position is helping us recruit and train more volunteers to provide services. And, of course, the Better at Home program continues to provide valuable support.
In the Comox Valley, we are supporting seniors through Grief and Loss groups, Caregiver Support Groups, a Friendly Vistor Program, navigation supports, housing supports, an income tax program, and by providing services for simple wills and advanced care directives. In 2025, we also welcomed a new Intergenerational Connections program. And in 2026, we are partnering with Pride Comox Valley to provide services to 2S & LGBTQIA+ seniors living in supported care.
In both communities, we are proud Living Wage Employers and work collaboratively with other senior supporting organizations.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this year’s guide. Your generous and ongoing support strengthens Senior Support services throughout the Comox Valley and Campbell River. We look forward to another year of nurturing existing partnerships and creating new ones, all in service of our North Island communities.
Most importantly, we offer our deepest gratitude to the hundreds of seniors we are privileged to support each month. Your trust, kindness, and encouragement mean more to us than words can express. The support you share with us truly flows both ways, and we are honoured to be part of your lives.
Kind regards,
Christopher Bate, Executive Director Senior Support North Vancouver Island
A Community Response Network (CRN) is made up of a diverse group of concerned community members, community agencies, local businesses, government agencies, professionals, and others who come together to create a coordinated community response to abuse, neglect, and self-neglect in vulnerable adults.
When the community cannot provide appropriate support to the adult, the Adult Guardianship Act provides designated agencies with the responsibility of investigating and ensuring that the proper action is undertaken.

CRNs around the province are reaching out to their communities to join the network and work to raise the awareness of abuse, neglect, and self-neglect in vulnerable adults, and to ultimately prevent it from happening.
Seniors are at the very heart of our communities, enriching our lives with their wisdom, experiences, and continued involvement. Whether through volunteering, sharing stories, or supporting families, your presence continues to make a meaningful difference each and every day.
We are truly grateful for all that you do to make the Comox Valley and Campbell River such vibrant and welcoming places to call home. Supporting seniors in staying connected, healthy, and engaged is essential to building strong, inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.
A sincere thank you to the Seniors
Support North Vancouver Island Society for creating this valuable guide, which connects seniors with the resources they need. Our appreciation also extends to the many community services and organizations who contributed to this guide and who continue to champion and support our senior residents.
Together, we can continue building communities where every person feels valued, respected, and cared for.
