HONOURING TERRY CONROY’S RETIREMENT CENTRE WELLINGTON MINOR HOCKEY VOLUNTEER FOR 35+ YEARS Terry Conroy has been a volunteer with the Centre Wellington Minor Hockey Association (CWMHA) and, prior to amalgamation, the Elora Minor Hockey Association for over 40 years. Terry walked through the doors of the new Elora Community Centre in the mid 1970’s with his two young sons and has been a valued volunteer ever since. Terry started in roles as League Convenor for the Hub League, Rep. Scheduler and Tournament Organizer in Elora. Terry helped with the amalgamation of Elora Minor Hockey and Fergus Minor Hockey into what is now known as Centre Wellington Minor Hockey. In more recent years, Terry was the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) centre contact for CWMHA looking after rostering processes, travel permits, coach’s clinics, game sheets, rule changes, etc.

Terry was often found at either the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex or the Elora Community Centre watching our young hockey stars of tomorrow playing Terry’s favourite game - HOCKEY. Terry has been the recipient of many service awards as part of CWMHA and Elora Minor Hockey. Locally, Terry has been recognized and honored with the Don Carter Award (2012) and the Peter Machin Award (2006). Those awards recognized his contribution and continued help to promote hockey in our community. In 2010 he was recognized by the Tri-County Hockey League and awarded the Honour Award for his contributions to hockey at the Tri-County League level. In 2015 Terry was recognized and honoured with the CWMHA Honorary Lifetime Membership which is only

granted to an individual who has rendered extraordinary and distinguished service to CWMHA. Terry is the only recipient of this award in the association’s history. In 2016 Terry was awarded the Patricia Hartley Award from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association. This award is presented annually to 1 person in Ontario and reflects the achievements of a local executive board member towards the efficient operations of an association and the betterment of hockey. Terry has been a mentor to the CWMHA executive and his role has been vital. He has a wealth of hockey knowledge and is highly respected within our community. The CWMHA is truly appreciative of the time Terry has given to the organization and we are happy to recognize this contribution.

Swimming Lessons We offer most swimming levels at every lesson time frame. This format of programming allows parents to register multiple children at the same time. Most lessons are 45 minutes in length in order to provide additional practice time for swimmers. In order to coordinate all of our swimmers, instructors will teach multi-level classes.

i

In order to offer a wide range of lesson times we often combine our Swim Kids 7/8/9 & 10 swimming levels in one class. This Winter we are programming some of these lessons with a smaller range of levels. Swim Kids 7/8 classes and Swim Kids 9/10 classes will run separately at the following times: Sundays 7:00-8:00pm, Mondays 7:00-8:00pm, Wednesdays 7:00-8:00pm

Not sure what level to register in? Please call the Sportsplex, 519.846.9691 x 321 to arrange a time for a FREE SKILLS ASSESSMENT by one of our Aquatic Staff. Cancelled Classes Classes with low enrolment will be cancelled approximately 1 week before programs start. Register early to avoid having the program you want cancelled. Private Lessons Private lessons run in the same nine lesson format as all other lessons. If this doesn’t fit your schedule, we do offer “one time” private lessons. When registering online for semi private lessons you can register one child online which will reserve the lesson for you. You will need to contact the Sportsplex to register the second child. For more information call the Supervisor of Aquatic Services, 519.846.9691 x 321. Change Rooms Children 6 years of age and older must use gender specific change rooms, or the family change room.

Missed Classes If you miss a scheduled lesson we are unable to make them up. Swim Lesson Progressions Did you know your child may repeat a level multiple times before completing all of the requirements successfully? When registering your children, please ensure you register them in the correct level. Swimming skills build from one level to the next. If your child hasn’t completed a level, he or she may not have the skills required to be successful in the next level.

Swim Lesson Report Cards Your child will receive a report card booklet that will track his or her progress throughout the swimming levels. Please bring your child’s report card to their first class and give it to his or her instructor. If your child is not present for the last swim lesson you can pick up their report card at the front administration desk at the Sportsplex.

Swimming with Clothes The Red Cross includes “Swim with clothes” components to lessons to make swimmers more prepared in case of an unexpected fall into water. During our 6th and 9th (or final) lessons all swimmers are reminded to wear clothes over top of their bathing suits. The following clothing is recommended. Pre-School and Swim Kids 1-4 – T-Shirt and Shorts Swim Kids 5-10 – Long Pants, Long sleeve shirts If you forget clothes, or miss the class these skills are included for the experience only. They are not required to complete the level. Deck Supervisor During swimming lessons there is a deck supervisor who oversees all lessons. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress he or she is available to answer your questions.

Transfers You can transfer classes prior to the start of the third lesson if there is space available.

One part documentary and another part musical activism, SPIN is inspired in part by the incredible true tale of Annie Londonderry, the first woman to ride around the world on a bicycle in 1895. Parry spins a fascinating web of stories that travel from 19th century women’s emancipation efforts to 21st century consumer culture, peeling back layers of history to reveal a surprising and contemporary heart to her theme of liberation.

Get involved at the Grand Rental Information A part of the community since 1928, the Fergus Grand Theatre is rented out year-round to individuals and organizations who use the building to stage a variety of artistic, cultural, corporate, and charitable events.
