Be on the lookout for signs of cuckooing

Residents are being urged to look out for signs of cuckooing, which is where a gang of drug dealers takes over a vulnerable person’s home.

People with learning disabilities, mental health issues and local drug users are often targeted – particularly if they are socially isolated.

Signs that a home is being cuckooed include:

• More people entering and leaving – especially at strange times

• An increase in cars or bikes outside

• More anti-social behaviour and noise

• Increased litter outside

• The person who lives there has not been seen recently, or has been anxious or distracted

Report concerns to Hertfordshire Police using 101 in a non-emergency or 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org

You can also report antisocial behaviour to the council by calling 01707 357 000 or e-mailing asb@welhat.gov.uk
