Museums give us places to think, grow, learn, wonder, and feel. Few cultural institutions have remained as important over the decades. They preserve and promote social interests as diverse and unique as the people who visit them. They can increase our well-being, help us feel proud of our origins, inspire, challenge, stimulate, and make us healthier. Museums continue to be beacons of enlightenment and empowerment, inviting all to explore, learn, and grow.

IMPACT

The Museum of Science & History (MOSH) inspires the joy of lifelong learning by bringing the sciences and regional history to life. For an impressive span of eight decades, MOSH has resided within a structure of only 33,000 sq. ft. of usuable space along the Southbank.

As popularity surges and the institution continues to evolve, the current location places significant limitations on what MOSH can achieve. These constraints curtail the grand visions that MOSH aspires to realize, prompting the need for a new chapter.

Moving to the Northbank allows MOSH to meet the growing demand for exhibits and programs that inspire innovation. This transformational reimagining of the Museum reinforces MOSH's role as a vital civic institution and a destination for accessible, immersive, and technologically advanced experiences.

With your support, MOSH Genesis will connect people with science and history, give them a presence in our community and offer people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to ask questions, imagine, create, and explore.

MOSH's journey traces back to the humble origins of a small museum nestled in the heart of Riverside. In 1969 the museum moved to its current location along the Southbank of Jacksonville. This museum quietly stood as a testament to our city's rich history and cultural heritage. However, as Jacksonville flourishes and evolves, the time has come for our cherished museum to blossom alongside it.

received charter and opens its doors to display the collections of female founder, Madge Wallace, fufilling Madge’s dream of a museum for all, by all.

The Jacksonville Children’s Museum

1948 The Jacksonville Children's Museum moved to a Victorian-style Riverside home, fashioning its first planetarium out of canvas tents. Trimmed with a wrap-around porch where lifelike taxidermied animals charmed passers-by for an up-close look at historical and cultural exhibits, the young museum inspired fantasy and encouraged curiosity.

Covering 130,000 ft², the new MOSH building expands for students and visitors, featuring an immersive design. MOSH Genesis will host 58,000 students and 469,000 yearly visitors. It's an architectural marvel housing dynamic exhibits that reveal Jacksonville's past, present, and future. Interactive elements invite visitors to engage in the unfolding narrative.

A Vibrant Downtown MOSH Genesis's presence is poised to invigorate downtown Jacksonville, breathing new life into the area. The landmark museum will draw visitors from the expanses of Northeast Florida, becoming a pivotal meeting point for the Emerald Trail, Riverwalk, and Shipyards. The seamless integration of building and landscape extends the Museum’s educational programs to the outdoors. This dynamic atmosphere will encourage urban revitalization, making downtown Jacksonville a more attractive and engaging destination for residents and visitors alike.

Fueling Curiosity Through Education in Early Learners Early learners will experience a world where education evolves before your eyes. A vivid tapestry of interactive exhibits and dynamic program will offer an unparalleled approach to learning. Students, families, and particularly early learners dive into immersive experiences in science, history, technology, and culture. This hands-on journey molds a society driven by curiosity and knowledge. Currently, MOSH actively engages with 75% of Duval County Public Schools Title 1 schools through STEAM programs, extending outreach to the remaining 25% through mobile initiatives.

Curated programs for children aged 5 and under tap into the natural curiosity of early learners while fostering essential skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

Transformation of the Riverfront MOSH Genesis's strategic location will play a pivotal role in activating the riverfront. The renaissance of our riverfront serves to create a cohesive district downtown. Activation of the Parks By utilizing green spaces to extend the Museum’s reach beyond its walls, MOSH Genesis blends education, recreation, and community engagement.

This combination creates a valuable urban asset and unique experience for guests. As the parks become lively centers of interaction, they contribute to downtown Jacksonville’s overall vibrancy while promoting a connection to nature in the midst of the city.
