Blossoms for Books Garden Tour Set in South Berwick
SOuTH BerWICK – Roses, perennials, annuals, vegetables and fountains will be on view during a tour of eight South Berwick area gardens on Saturday, July 13, the second annual Blossoms for Books Garden Tour to benefit the South Berwick Public Library Building Fund. According to tour organiz-
er Karen Benoit, last year’s event was so well received she couldn’t wait to do it again. “The selection and variety of gardens is so impressive,” she said. “It is the most pleasant morning imaginable. How can you not help but slow down a little and smile when you are surrounded by such lovingly created beauty. “

This year’s event features three new gardens, two on York Woods Road and one in Somersworth, as well as the Sarah Orne Jewett House. Two of the new entries were found after Mimi Demers, coordinator of the South Berwick Community Garden, asked members for recommendations. Gardner, Parker said, “thought my garden was better
than hers so I should be in the tour also for a two-for-one stop. Everyone always tells me our house and gardens are their favorite place on York Woods Road, and this would be a good way to finish up all my little garden projects before the actual tour.” Gardner said she wants to share her garden with other gardening enthusiasts so they can experience the joy she feels coming home each evening. “I work hard to make the property reflect my vision of heaven, and I want to share it with the com-

munity,” she said. The third new garden is Golden Meadows Garden Design and Daylillies of Somersworth. Cathryn Norris, owner of The Violin and Fiddle Studio in Rollinsford, has once again organized local musicians to play in the gardens. They are Sheila Rogers, Lindsey Pence, David Ramsey, Christine QuinnThibodeau, Barbara Lang, Sheila Lebarge, Richard Fogarty, Dee McEneaney and Elizabeth Little. Tickets and brochures for the event are $12 in advance at the library and at FriendsofSouthBerwickLibrary.org or $15 at the library on July 13. All proceeds go to the Friends of South Berwick Library, which has raised $850,000 towards its $1.1 million goal to help renovate and furnish the new facility on Young Street.
