Vets Cemetery Association Gets Donation SANFORD The Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery Association (SMVCA), totaling $1,350. The funds were collected via a $1,000 donation made by the Bank as well as a March Casual for a Cause jeans day, held with the Bank employees. The Casual for a Cause Day is an SIS Bank tradition, and allows for employees to take a day off from wearing their usual professional attire. On the designated day, SIS employees each contributed $3 to5 (or more) to wear jeans to work, knowing the money would go towards the charitable gift to the cemetery association. The Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, located in Springvale, is a well-cared-for cemetery for U.S. veterans, and includes features like the Memorial Walkway, the Service Monument and a Military

The donation made by SIS and its employees will go towards the building of the WWI Monument to be dedicated on November 11, 2018, the 100th anniversary of the ending of WWI. “The cemetery groundskeepers do a great job in creating a comforting and heartfelt atmosphere for those to mourn and celebrate their loved ones,”

said SIS Bank president and CEO BlaineBoudreau. “We’re glad to be able to help support the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery and the Association to honor those who have fought and died for our country.” For more information on the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, visit 83 Stanley Road in Springvale or call 207-4597394.

Landscape Designer Thomas Lynch Wins Gold Award OGUNQUIT The Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) recently released the 2018 award winners of its annual international landscape design competition. A panel of judges reviewed the entrants’ work anonymously – looking at before and after photographs and project summaries – without knowing the names of the designers. Categories included Small Gardens, Show Gardens, Specialty Projects, and Residential Landscapes (under and above $100,000). Thomas Lynch of Thomas Lynch Design, Inc. in Ogunquit, won a Gold award for a project called “Maine Seaside Garden” in the Specialty Projects category. This public garden, located in Ogunquit, was described by the judges as “a delightful project!” They especially liked the use of native plants. One judge said, “Beautiful work! The end result looks like the native landscape is supposed to look. The plantings have been incorporated into the landscape as though they were there without the hand of man.” The project also received accolades for the well-thought out paths and features. Another judge said, “A perfect example of public design that services the public with space, place and an example to emulate. An excellent work from the paths, features and plantings.” Landscape designer Lynch has always been passionate about gardening, art and design. His

work is inspired by everyday life, by nature, and by visits to some of the world’s most beautiful gardens, including Luxembourg, Tuileries, Giverny, and the Gardens at Versailles, to name a few. His portfolio of work ranges from small domestic gardens to fullscale woodland and coastal landscapes, and is characterized by inventive use of hardscape and plant materials combined with meticulous attention to detail. “It is such an honor for me to have received this prestigious award from the APLD,” Lynch said. “I am thrilled that one of my seaside gardens, which offers not only visual beauty but protects and nurtures wildlife including pollinators, won gold.” Lynch studied garden and landscape design under eminent British designers Robin Templar Williams, FSGD and Moira Farnham, MSGD. He received a Diploma from the United Kingdom Garden Design School at the level of Distinction, which is the highest honor awarded. In addition to his classical design training, he earned a certificate in Native Plants & Ecological Horticulture from Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. He also holds undergraduate degrees with honors in Business Management and Marketing, and a graduate degree in Management. The winners of the 2018 international landscape design competition will receive their awards at the APLD annual conference in September in Toronto, ON. KRC Takes Ownership of Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club KENNEBUNKPORT Tim Harrington, founding partner and creative director of the Kennebunkport Resort Collection (KRC), owners and operators of nine area hotels and five restaurants, announced the renovation and opening date of the newly purchased Yachtsman Lodge & Marina, now named the Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club. Located directly on the Kennebunk River in downtown Kennebunkport, the 30room hotel will reopen for the season on May 17, after a complete renovation of the rooms, common areas and river-side landscaping. As part of its re-

branding, the Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club will also have an exclusive partnership with the Kennebunkport Marina, providing guests special privileges such as transient slips for overnight stays and access to water sports equipment rentals. “The Yachtsman is a perfect complement and distinctive addition to the KRC portfolio,” said Harrington. “Like all of our properties, it has a signature location that drives the design aesthetic, the guest amenities and services, and will set it apart from other hotels in Kennebunkport.” Each of the thirty harborfront bungalows have private
