opular ‘My Kitchen Rules’ judge Colin Fassnidge is coming to Leura for dinner. For the second year in a row the Fairmont Resort will host a lavish Winter Wonderland Gala Dinner led by the renowned chef. The cheeky Irishman said he is looking forward to partnering with Fairmont to present a memorable dining experience. “We will be celebrating the region’s best fresh local produce,” he said. A quick glance at the menu suggests visitors will be treated to some culinary delights with truffle infused quail egg, sencha smoked duck breast, liquorice braised beef cheek and an ice cream sandwich all set to be plated up. Mr Fassnidge said he is looking forward to coming back to the Mountains. “It’s a great place to get away from city life, relax and enjoy nature,” he said. The four course gala dinner will include listening to Mr Fassnidge share his passion for food and his signature noseto-tail cooking philosophy. He will also talk about his journey to date, from arriving in Australia as a backpacker to owning a busy eatery in Surry Hills. Fairmont Resort General Manager,

cenic World has launched a new philanthropic program in an attempt to support the Blue Mountains and create a lasting impact that will improve the lives of locals. The local attraction is aiming to deliver better outcomes for the region across three key areas: community, education and environment. Through the ‘Scenic World Shared’ program they will build the capacity of the region, supporting future generations and preserving the special World Heritage-

listed environment. Scenic World’s Managing Director, Anthea Hammon, said the program was part of Scenic World’s vision to help close the gap on local disadvantage and work towards a more sustainable future for the community and the environment. “The Blue Mountains community is incredibly vibrant and diverse, but it faces many challenges such as a fragile ecosystem and a community that is touched by low socio-economic factors that impact education and employment outcomes,” she said. Old style justice Terrorist threats to Australia are indeed very real as we all know, even in recent days we heard of a plan to blow up a domestic plane, and all I can say is this; there is a terrorist 5th column at work in this nation, has been for decades. Only problem as I see it is this; years ago we hanged those who would murder us in own own country, it was treason during war time, spies for the enemy at work planing to kill us, we are at war in our homeland and it’s about time we started hanging again, not only for terrorists but murderers and pedophiles also. It will not happen because of weak craven folks who have no spine for justice, but it should. RICHARD MERRELL, VIA EMAIL

Bag ban taking too long After reading your article regarding plastic bags being discontinued at Woolworths and Coles, I thought how great it will be to reduce the amount of plastic bags going into landfill from these two Companies, but why would it take 12 months? And I hope the money they save from this can be spent on fixing the other problem they have in regards to the dumping of their trolleys all over the area. It is a total disgrace that these companies cannot put locking wheels on their trolleys that lock after trolleys are taken a certain distance. Yes I do understand these trolleys are left around by lazy shop-

pers who think it is fine to use them and just dump them wherever they want but if they are locked after a certain distance it stops these shoppers from doing it. BARRY HILL, VIA EMAIL

We should all take notice Homeless Person’s Week runs from 7 to 13 August. Currently there are over 105,000 homeless people in Australia, 44,000 of which are under the age of 25. Homeless Person’s Week aims to raise awareness for those doing it tough. One in five homeless people seeking assistance are being turned away from vital, emergency accommodation services. In modern Australia, these statistics are alarming and there is a lot of work to be done to fix this. Homeless Person’s week raises awareness of these figures in the hopes of gaining support for this significant issue. People often only see homelessness as those sleeping and begging on the streets, but we need to ensure that our invisible homeless people are taken care of. Homelessness is all around us. People who are forced to couch surf, sleep in cars or those who just don’t have a home to return to every night are the invisible homeless. It is often convenient for us to forget or ignore them but these people need our help. FATHER CHRIS RILEY CEO AND FOUNDER YOUTH OFF THE STREETS
