TERRY THE ODD JOB MAN LIVE! SATURDAY, APRIL 26 ■ Southmead handyman Terry the Odd Job Man – the alter-ego of comedian Jody Kamali – became a minor YouTube sensation back in 2007 with his hilarious short films, which mixed DIY coaching with insights into the Bristolian dialect. He returns now to perform this one-off live show at the Southmead Community Centre, right in Terry/Jody’s own heartland. When his fame first broke, Terry memorably coached Baywatch star David Hasselhoff in the local dialect on BBC Radio Bristol. His fan base has now spread further, with Bristolians saving his pet phrases as ringtones and university lecturers using

his videos as part of their English degree courses. Now Jody, who trained in clowning and is a regular performer on the London comedy circuit and Edinburgh Festival, has created a live show dedicated to life in Bristol. Tonight’s one-off will contain some of Terry’s infamous Bristolian Language Lessons, plus Bristolian Bingo, songs, extracts from his book 50 Shades of Bristol (written entirely in dialect, naturally) and plenty more. ■ Southmead Community Centre, 248 Greystoke Ave, Bristol, 8pm, £7.50. 0117 950 1187/ www.terrytheoddjobman.com.

INSTANT WIT SATURDAY, APRIL 26 ■ Prepare for a joyous evening of songs, gags and general silliness, as the brilliant, Bristol-based quickfire comedy improv group pitch up at Kingswood’s intimate Brass Works Theatre. Instant Wit use an impressive, changing roster of local actors and comics, depending on their availability: tonight’s line-up includes the excellent Chris Bianchi, recently seen in Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory’s Richard III. Instant Wit create their hilarious, fast-paced scenarios from audience suggestions, which can be as outlandish as you like. “Maybe you’ve always wanted to hear a medieval madrigal containing lines you might find written in a teenager’s diary, or watch a sketch where some ninja cockroaches take over 10 Downing Street? Your wish is our

command,” reveals long-term Instant Wit Stephanie Weston. Fear not, though – there’s no forced audience participation, and there’s even a section where anonymous suggestions, written down in the interval, can be acted out. Stephanie adds: “Many people have seen improvised comedy on the TV, such as Whose Line is it Anyway or Fast and Loose – but remember, this is not recorded and edited, but totally live! If you like your comedy fast-paced and with a slightly unusual edge, this is definitely for you.” ■ Brass Works Theatre, above Kingswood Heritage Museum, Tower Lane, Warmley, Bristol, 7.30pm, £11/£10 concs, www.brassworkstheatre.com.
