“I am Transformed”
A journey into creating a new identity for ones-self.
This year we were researching Identity . The children were captivated by the identities of the Pokemon characters .After they had explored these characters in many different ways …role play, drawing, clay work and much discussion, we offered them an opportunity to “transform “ themselves into a different character . We considered the following questions
What draws the children to the identity of fictional or non fictional characters?
What did they value about their chosen character in relation to the world in which they live?
What kind of relationship would be formed when encountering the character's identity in their world?
With these questions in mind we photocopied individual images of the child found on their Respect Signs and pasted them on large paper. Some were just a profile picture, whilst others were a full body shot, each a representation of their identity at Wee Care.
Each child was invited to draw themselves in 'character' as they took inspiration from their favourite storyline, fantasy, pop culture, mechanical transformation, mystical creatures and the world of nature. We think the results are amazing.
