My name is Marcel Cristocea and I am a wedding/portrait/fashion photographer based in Montreal. I discovered photography at the age of 22. Initially, I was attracted to nature photography, but in time I discovered that photographing people was more rewarding to me. I got into wedding photography quite by chance. I was living on Zanzibar island and shooting as a hobbyist when I was asked to shoot my first wedding. All of the emotions that surround a wedding day totally captivated me and made me want to be a wedding photographer.

I love what I do. I photograph people in love. Wedding photography must be one of the most diverse genres to shoot, there is so much going on and so much to capture if you just keep your eyes open. I mostly shoot destination weddings on islands and on safari, but no matter the type of wedding or destination, what makes every wedding exciting is the couple. You can never get bored of being a wedding photographer, because even when you shoot the same type of wedding in the same location 5 times over, it will never be the same, because what is truly special about a wedding is the couple tying the knot. Short Description: I’ve started my photography with the basics; a 35mm film camera in a

dark room developing my own film. This taught me the essence of getting it right in camera, no second chances, and no seeing what the images look like, it was like Christmas every time I got in the dark room.; loved it. However after graduating with a BA degree in Film & Photography, I worked in the commercial film and photography industry for a few years learning more about shaping light and using available light to create the directors & clients vision.

Ever since I was young I developed an unexplainable passion for photography.

In my group of friends I always carried the camera with me, taking pictures of every moment that I lived. Now I conserve a huge album that collects all the memories from my teenage. The time passed and my interest in photography grew and grew till 6 years ago, this moment was very important for me, I decided to buy my first SLR. During the first years with my new camera I photographed everything around me, at the same time that I started to experience with Photoshop. The people began to know my work and I received my first orders for photographing some events. In that period I lost my job and I decided from that exactly moment to focus my career in the photography. I never thought to perform wedding photography because I had a wrong idea. Different chances took me to accept this field, I saw more opportunities and demand, and with these two reasons the money. Even if I wasn’t especially happy, I accepted my first wedding and the results were quite traditional. After that experience, I tried to change something, I was looking for a way to improve, I wanted to make something different, something original, and this was hard because wedding photography was one of the most traditional fields.

The shock moment arrived when I attended one workshop given by Victor Lax in Seville, the way in what he applied his photojournalism and reporting skills to the wedding pictures really impacted me, changing radically my point of view about this kind of photography. At that time I didn’t know who he was, but he discovered me an unknown world full of great professional photographers. Now I consider myself a wedding photographer. I experience with all the possibilities that offer me the light, different angles, making a dynamic session every time that I have between my hands the camera, making a new, original and creative work and not stopping growing up.
