During the February 4th City Council meeting, Fire Chief Dean Spencer presented Life Saving awards to Battalion Chief Anthony Pearson and Firefighter Logan Jager for their outstanding courage and life-saving efforts.
On January 10, 2025, the Webster Fire Department responded to a mutual aid call in League City for a house fire. Upon arrival, Chief Pearson and Firefighter Jager were assigned to conduct a primary residence search.
During their search, they located a fire victim in a bedroom on the first floor and swiftly removed them from the burning structure, ensuring the individual received immediate medical care.
“We may have been the ones who located the victim, but many things were happening simultaneously on the fire ground. When we go to a fire, our mission and mindset is to locate victims and extinguish the fire,” says Chief Pearson, “The other [firemen] who were inside the structure still had the discipline to execute their search and look for additional victims.”
Their unwavering commitment to protecting lives exemplifies the highest standards of the fire service. Please join us in congratulating Battalion Chief Pearson and Firefighter Jager on this well-deserved honor!
“I want to thank Mayor and City Council for allowing us to attend trainings. We have done a lot of hands-on training classes that directly impacted what happened that day,” says Chief Pearson, “Thank you for the opportunities you provide us as a fire department to provide the highest level of service to the system.”
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to walk in the shoes of a police officer? Now’s your chance to find out! The Webster Citizen Police Academy (CPA) invites you to join their next session, where you’ll learn firsthand how officers protect and serve the community you live and work in.
The Webster CPA educates citizens about the duties and responsibilities, the policies and procedures of the department, and the citizen’s role in the interaction of citizens and police through a series of classes. In addition to helping the citizens better understand the police department, it also allows the police department to understand the citizens and their concerns better.
The CPA offers a comprehensive look into law enforcement, covering topics such as patrol operations (police equipment, special response teams, defense tactics, narcotics, DWI, and laws), communications (dispatch and records), and criminal investigations (fingerprints and crime scene analysis). Additional subjects include gangs, domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, the K9 division, and firearms training simulations.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in a “ridealong” program, experiencing firsthand what it’s like to patrol alongside officers. Classes are led by police personnel, and students receive notebooks filled with handouts, mirroring the structure of an actual police academy. Upon completion, graduates are honored with a diploma at a special graduation dinner.
The Citizen Police Academy typically meets once a week for about three hours for ten weeks. At this time, the exact day of the week and dates have not been determined. Although there is no cost to the student, a substantial time commitment is required from the student. The Academy is held in the Webster Police Department’s training facility.
An application can be obtained from the Webster Police Department or our website. Classes are kept small to ensure interaction through discussions and hands-on participation. Therefore, applications are on a first-returned, firstprocessed basis.
The Alumni is made of active members and follows the mission of the Texas Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association to assist and educate the various Citizen Police Academy Alumni Associations within the State of Texas to better serve their communities by more effectively partnering with and supporting the law enforcement agencies in their area.
Meetings are held monthly at the Police Department. Alumni activities include planning, continuing education seminars, hosting guest speakers, supporting current academy participants, and hosting activities such as Police Appreciation Week. Who
Anyone who lives or works in the City of Webster, is at least 21 years old, and passes a background investigation may apply for the Citizen Police Academy.
Students of the CPA have responded enthusiastically. Graduates of the inaugural class formed the Citizen Police Academy Alumni, a group dedicated to supporting future CPA classes. As honorary members of the Webster Police Officers Association, they actively contribute to community improvement through various impactful projects.
We look forward to you joining the next session of Citizen Police Academy!
