OUR ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE Since the SBC was established in 2013, it has become one of the pillars of the entrepreneurial ecosystem at the University of Southampton. The Clinic has provided free advice to more than 300 individual clients, and received excellent feedback for both large audience seminars and face-to-face sessions.

SUCCESS STORY Mauro Cozzi studied Acoustical Engineering at the University of Southampton and is one of SBC’ s clients. In 2017, Mauro and his team established their company: Researchably (researchably.com).

WHAT IS THE SMALL BUSINESS CLINIC (SBC)?

WHO ARE WE? Our Consultants: Renold Tang

The Small Business Clinic (SBC) is run by staff and students from the Law School at the University of Southampton.

It is supported by an experienced entrepreneur and investor, Renold Tang, who offers free advice on how to start and run a business in the UK. Solicitors from local law firm Coffin Mew join us this year to offer legal advice.

The SBC supports all staff, current students and alumni who have started their business, or have a business idea which can be translated into the market place.

Renold is a successful entrepreneur with in depth national and international experience in several industrial sectors.

He has spent 30 years growing his accountancy practice and other business interests.

James Kitching James is a corporate solicitor at Coffin Mew. His particular focus is on tech companies, and start ups and scale ups.

His work involves ongoing corporate support, such as drafting shareholders’ agreements, managing company statutory books and advising on employee share schemes, as well as acting on the sale of, investment in, and purchase of businesses.

OUR CLINIC DATES FOR 2019: This year, clinic sessions will involve a one hour panel Q&A session with our consultants, followed by one-to-one meetings.

One-to-one meetings with our accounting or legal consultants will be tailored to your individual business needs.

Duration of one-to-one meetings: 30 minutes

HOW CAN WE HELP? By attending SBC clinics and seminars, you can receive professional advice on a range of issues related to the start up process, budgetary controls, statutory audits, corporate legal affairs, and data protection, etc.

Importantly, we can help you to answer critical business questions at an early stage. These include:

Andrew Jerrard Andrew is a commerical solicitor at Coffin Mew. He has a keen interest in IT and intellectual property and has written articles on technical issues around the development of the internet. He advises on a range of matters including data protection, intellectual property, commercial contracts, competition law, distribution and agency as well as assisting with practical strategies.

Charlotte Allery Charlotte is an employment solicitor at Coffin Mew. She advises clients on both contentious and non-contentious workplace issues. Her experience includes advising on day-to-day HR matters, the drafting of contractual and policy documentation and advising on complex settlements.
