Newsletter Welcome back and Happy 2011. The faculty wishes you an enjoyable and successful semester. May 2011 Graduates Students who are planning to graduate in May 2011 need to complete a Degree Application Form by February 15, 2011. These forms will be given out in classes and are available on the EC portal under Student Resources, Office of the Registrar, Forms. Please return the completed form to your advisor. After the form is received, your transcript will be reviewed for completion of program requirements. 2011 Pinning Ceremony The 2011 Pinning Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday evening, May 12, from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. The ceremony is held in the chapel and followed by a reception in the auditorium. Students who have graduated in December 2010, who will graduate in May 2011, and those who have completed the Health Promotion courses and have only one course left to take in the summer of 2011 are eligible to take part in the ceremony. Pins must be purchased by February 28 and are sold through the Emmanuel Bookstore. If you have not received initial information about the Pinning, please contact Dr. Gerry Chalykoff at chalykge@emmanuel.edu. More information from the Pinning Committee will be forthcoming. New Emmanuel MS Program We are happy to announce that starting in fall 2011; Emmanuel College will offer a MS program. The 36 credit program offers two tracks: Nursing

Management or Nursing Education. To apply, all students (including Emmanuel College BSN graduates) must submit a separate application, 2 recommendations, resume, personal statement, and transcript. The next Info Session is scheduled for February 22 from 5 to 6 pm. For further information, contact Dr. Diane Arathuzik at arathuzi@emmanuel.edu. Applications are due April 30, 2011. Sigma Theta Tau (Pi Epsilon Chapter) Students who are graduating in May 2011 are invited to apply for membership in Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. Students must have a 3.0 GPA and rank in the upper 35% of the graduating class. Applications are available in the Nursing Department or online (on the Nursing Homepage under Resources). Please print out and send by mail to Professor Helen Ahearn. Applications are due Friday, February 4. The Induction Ceremony will be held at Regis College on May 6, 2011. Student Representatives Karen Hanrahan and Elizabeth Kaplan have agreed to be BSN student representatives to the Nursing Faculty Curriculum and Departmental Committees. If you have any student issues/questions that you would like Karen or Elizabeth to bring to the meeting on your behalf, please email them through the EC email system, or speak to them in person. We thank Karen and Elizabeth for their time, interest, and contributions. Student Handbook ---Your Source of Information Please review the Nursing Handbook which is located on the Nursing Home Page under Publications. If you are taking the Health Promotion courses (NURS 3117 and NURS 4170) next January 2012, it is helpful to review the clinical/medical documents needed for this course. Support Funding for Nursing Education Massachusetts Association of Colleges of Nursing invites you to rally in support of increased funding for nursing education. The rally will be held on Thursday, April 28 10-11 am at Nurses’ Hall at the State House. Make your voice heard.
