What are the costs to attend Emmanuel?

When is the tuition bill due?

The fall semester bill is mailed in early July and is due on August 4, 2010. The spring semester bill is mailed in midNovember and is due on December 17, 2010.

Will my financial aid appear on the tuition bill?

All verified need-based aid and non-need based aid will appear on the tuition bill as a pending credit. If your financial aid offer indicated it was estimated and you received a letter from our office requesting further information to complete your file, your need-based financial aid will not appear on the tuition bill until the documentation is received and your financial aid eligibility is verified. Requested documents typically include the Emmanuel College Application for Financial Aid and/or signed copies of parents’ and student’s federal tax returns. Please contact us if you have questions regarding the status of your application.

What are my options for paying the balance?

After deducting the deposit and financial aid or scholarships, approximately half of the annual balance will be due on August 4th for the fall semester and the other half on December 17th for the spring semester. In addition to personal checks and credit cards, students and families can pay the balance using a monthly interest-free payment plan, parent loan, private student loan or a combination of these. When planning your method of payment, it is strongly recommended that you borrow and/or enroll in the payment plan for the entire year instead of applying each semester.

Can I view my bill or make a payment online?

Yes. Students can view important information including their financial aid award letter and tuition bill and make payments through Online Academic Resources (OAR) via the Emmanuel Portal (portal.emmanuel.edu) using their student log-in, which is provided at Orientation. At this time, logins are not available to parents; however we recommend you share this information with your parents.

What is the process for accepting the Federal Stafford Loan?

If you received a Federal Stafford Loan as part of your financial aid award and you are planning to borrow with this loan, you are required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and an entrance interview. Both of these requirements may be completed online. From the Emmanuel College web site, click on “Tuition & Aid,” then “Scholarships & Financial Aid,” and then “Federal Stafford Loan.” We recommend that you complete this requirement

by June 15th so that the loan will appear as a pending credit on your tuition bill. If you wish to decline your Stafford Loan, please email financialservices@emmanuel.edu or call our office at (617) 735-9938.

Is health insurance required?

Yes. All students are required to have health insurance and are automatically billed the health insurance premium in the amount of $1,157 for the 2010-2011 academic year. If you have other insurance coverage, you may remove this charge by completing an online health insurance waiver. If you do not have coverage and require the College’s plan, you will need to complete an online health insurance enrollment form. The online waiver and enrollment form can be completed at www.universityhealthplans.com and must be completed by August 4, 2010. Students who do not complete a waiver by this date will automatically be enrolled in the College’s plan and will incur the $1,157. Please note that this health insurance requirement is required every year and is separate from the Entrance Health Report required by the Health Services Office.

Can I work on-campus?

To help students earn spending money and gain valuable work experience Emmanuel College offers part-time employment opportunities, both on and off-campus. All students are eligible to apply for most on-campus positions. In addition to the many positions that are available through Emmanuel College, our Boston location provides students the opportunity to find off-campus positions within walking distance of the campus. Internships and job listings are posted on the Emmanuel College Career Connect (EC3) system during move-in weekend and a job fair is held on campus at the start of the school year. Because jobs are limited, students who are interested in working on-campus will want to contact supervisors as soon as possible once arriving on campus. If you are interested in working on-campus you should have your social security card and driver’s license (or other ID) with you when you arrive on-campus so that you can complete the necessary employment paperwork.

Please note students who are awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) are not required to work as it is an offer of employment. Also, FWS is not deducted from the bill as students are paid every two weeks for hours worked.

How do I apply for private scholarships? What should I do if I receive a private scholarship?

To help with the cost of education, many students apply for and receive scholarships from private sources. These sources may include high schools, churches, local organizations, your parents' place of employment or other clubs to which you or your family belong. Scholarship books in local libraries and high school guidance offices list scholarship opportunities with an index of eligibly requirements. Several free scholarship search engines, such as www.fastweb.com and www.finaid.org, can be found on the Internet as well.

If you are receiving a private scholarship, you must provide documentation of the scholarship to the Office of Student Financial Services for it to be deducted from your tuition bill.

What types of meal plans does Emmanuel offer?

Resident students begin each year with 15 meals per week and $95 in “Flex Dollars” per semester that can be used in the Atrium and Muddy River Café. Students have the option of changing this plan to 19 meals per week with $25 flex dollars. The meal plan is included in the cost of room & board.

Commuter students have the option of choosing one of two meal plans: five meals per week at $450 per semester or eight meals per week at $720 per semester.

What is the Fenway Card?

In addition to being your official identification at Emmanuel College, students can also add Fenway Cash to their Fenway Card to make cashless purchases at the bookstore, dining hall, vending machines, laundry machines and select off-campus locations. Because Fenway Cash is a prepaid spending account on your Fenway Card, we highly encourage students to add value to their Fenway Card to make purchasing transactions both convenient and safe. Can I park on campus?

On-campus parking is extremely limited and is only available to commuter students who do not have access to public transportation and is offered on a first come first served basis. Parking applications are available in the Office of the Vice-President for Student Affairs. The cost for the 2010-2011 year is $375 per semester for a full-time student and $225 for a part-time student.
