If you want to take the next step in your career, you have come to the right place. The Format: Supporting Professional Growth The programs are offered in a convenient, accelerated format at Emmanuel’s main campus in Boston or online. On-campus courses meet just one evening per week in seven-week sessions. Online courses are also delivered in seven-week sessions, but in an asynchronous format. Generally, students begin studies by first completing the six research administration courses, offered in a cohort model with two starts per year: fall (September) and spring (January). This coursework satisfies the academic requirements needed to earn a Graduate Certificate in Research Administration. For those in the Master of Science in Management with specialization in Research Administration, students take the five general management courses after completing the research administration cohort courses. Students should apply to the program from which they intend to graduate.

The Location: In the Heart of the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA) Emmanuel’s central location, in the heart of the LMA and adjacent to some of the most respected health care institutions and academic centers in the world, allows the College to form strategic partnerships with leaders in the research field. Our expert instructors call upon their professional research experiences at worldrenowned institutions such as Harvard University, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Dartmouth College. Emmanuel College is the recipient of the University Continuing Education Association’s (UCEA) 2010 Community of Practice Award for Outreach and Engagement for Employer and Association Partnerships in Research Administration.

The Curriculum: A Cutting-Edge Approach The knowledge and skills gained in the graduate-level research administration curriculum can be immediately applied on the job. Emmanuel College convened content-area experts to examine key competencies in the field. These key competencies complement the noncredit options of the professional associations such as the Society of Research Administrators (SRA) and the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA). Using a case study approach and interactive technology platforms, our instructors cover critical elements of sponsored projects administration, including communication, negotiation, contract management, finance and ethics. Students further their understanding through interaction with a growing network of current and future leaders in the sponsored research field. Students who pursue a Master of Science in Management with specialization in Research Administration benefit from both content-specific and generalized management and leadership coursework.

Become the dynamic leader the field of research administration demands. Those working in the world of research administration impact some of the largest sponsored global health and social initiatives. Employed by a broad range of organizations, including universities, hospitals, nonprofit and government agencies, they facilitate research that can make a difference. As the field continues to advance, the need for experienced administrators is as important as the research being conducted. Through a rigorous curriculum created by sponsored research experts from our neighboring Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA) institutions and beyond, Emmanuel College responds to the specialized needs of those currently working or interested in research administration by providing opportunities to earn an academic credential and expand professional networks. Through these award-winning and innovative part-time programs, students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become highly productive professionals, critical thinkers, and contributors to the community – the next generation of leaders in research administration.
