Thank you to parents/carers who attended our Bronze and Gold DofE information evenings. Well done to Year 11 for engaging so well with last week’s Sixth Form Taster Day and Open Evening and thank you to all the students in Years 12 and 13 who helped out. Lastly, I wish you all a restful break over the half term. Mr Mackenzie

Year 7 students produced some fantastic pieces of work as part of their Geography topic on our local area. Their ‘My Patch’ projects show an impressive level of detail and creativity, reflecting how much thought and effort they put into exploring their surroundings. They shared what the Wirral means to them - from favourite local landmarks and parks to special places they enjoy visiting with friends and family. Many students also wrote about holiday destinations and areas across the UK where relatives live, highlighting strong personal and geographical connections they have across the country. All of the projects will be displayed in Geography classrooms to celebrate Year 7's hard work.

Year 12 BTEC musicians were fortunate to attend a Steinway pop up event at Liverpool Hope University. The group enjoyed a Steinway seminar and a tour of the campus. Pianist, Charis, enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime piano masterclass, led by renowned international concert pianist and recording artist, Martin Roscoe. The students gained an insight into how Steinway became a world leader in piano craftsmanship and they even had the chance to play the university’s concert grand piano, valued at over £200,000!

Miss Dean’s Global Voices PPDP cohort visited Bold Street to look at how language reflects the street's diverse and evolving identity. The mix of independent cafés, vintage shops and international restaurants creates a rich tapestry of linguistic expression, from Scouse dialects and colloquial banter to multi-lingual signage and global cuisines. Students tuned in to conversations overheard along Bold Street that capture Liverpool’s inclusive and creative spirit and enjoyed a productive morning in our lovely city!

Years 12 and 13 students visited Liverpool Hope University last week to attend a session run by the Talent Foundry to learn more about degree apprenticeships and how to access them. They took part in various role playing activities, focussing on primary teaching, physiotherapy, social work and youth work.

Easy Peasy, Pizza Witches’ Fingers

Simple to make but look really impressive, these pizza fingers can be made with any bread you may have at home.

Ingredients:

2 slices of bread

1 tablespoon tomato puree/pizza sauce

1/2 pepper (any colour - these are to make the nails)

50g grated cheese

Method:

1. Trim the crusts off each slice of bread (these could also be made using pitta bread or tortilla wraps).

2. Spread the tomato puree over the slice of bread, ensuring it doesn’t go over the edge.

3. Sprinkle the cheese over the top, place on a baking tray and bake at 180c for 10 minutes (or until the cheese has melted). You could add some chopped ham or sweetcorn to make your witches fingers look gruesome!

4. Prepare the pepper by cutting into thick slices, then into a triangle shape by cutting at a 45-degree angle.

5. Once the pizzas are ready, remove from the tray and place on a chopping board. Cut the pizza into long rectangular pieces.

6. Add a piece of pepper at the end of each piece. You can use different coloured peppers if you want.

7. You could drizzle some tomato ketchup over the nails to make your witches fingers look more gruesome! Garnish as you wish!

* Top tip - you could add some green food colouring to the cheese or even add some cooked peas to make the pizzas look like real witches’ fingers!

FIREWORKS & SPARKLERS SAFETY

Only over 18s can purchase fireworks from licensed retailers.

Maintain a safe distance of at least 500 feet from the launching area to avoid injury.

Do not go near a firework that has been lit but didn't explode.

Keep pets indoors & stay with them - animals are often scared by the noise.

Never give sparklers to children under five and ensure they are always supervised.

Always wear gloves when handling sparklers & hold at arm's length.

Never wave them close to other people or your body.

Once the sparkler has finished, place the hot end in a bucket of cold water.

Never put fireworks in your pocket.

200g butter

1 large egg

4 tbsp milk

200g golden syrup

85g treacle

85g light soft brown sugar

100g porridge oats

250g self-raising flour

1 tbsp ground ginger

Method:

1. Heat the oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3.

2. Butter a deep 22cm square cake tin and line with baking parchment.

3. Beat the egg and milk together with a fork.

4. Gently melt the syrup, treacle, sugar and butter together in a large pan until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat.

5. Mix together the oatmeal, flour and ginger and stir into the syrup mixture, followed by the egg and milk.

6. Pour the mixture into the tin and bake for 50 mins - 1 hour until the cake feels firm and a little crusty on top.
