Excerpt of ‘Time’ by Holly
… “When you were younger, your grandpaused to take you to the museum.he’d hoist you on his shoulders, grunting slightlyfrom the effortyet always firm in his resolve tokeep you secure. you would rest your head upon his, him Atlasand you the Earth,as the two of you would gaze upon theskeletons of grandfathers and granddaughtersyears before yourselves”.
Excerpt of ‘The Con’ by Molly Nash
… “And an angel fell as an unfinished rhyme. Uncaring eyes slipped on from the scene, no regret, none at all, for the horror that had been. Instead, he ground mountains beneath his boots, gnawed at steel and stretched at the roots of fluttering church spires; a colossal coliseumwhole orchards, forests, he grew from chutes. He saw the rise and fall of Elysium”…

It was a close one but a huge well done to 13JK for winning the overall competition!
So Long, Farewell, Auf Goodbye….Wiedersehen,

It was finally time to say goodbye to our Year 13 students, as one chapter ends and another begins. Students were joined by Chair of Governors, and staff for the Year 13 Leavers’ assembly in June. Together, students and staff reflected on their experiences and memories through a video montage of their lives at Weatherhead. Our incredibly talented Music and Dance students performed for the last time and even took a couple of selfies in front of the balloon arch!

In June, Sixth Formers were finally able to see the return of the long-awaited prom. With panoramic views over the Mersey and prime location on Liverpool’s waterfront, The Venue in the Royal Liver Building offered an impressive setting for our leavers. Students were dressed to the nines as they enjoyed taking photos in front of the pink and white flower wall, eating their way through the three course buffet and, of course, dancing the night away.

AmbassadorsScience
Student Report “As Science Ambassadors, we have put together activities for students to do in class, including guided reading comprehensions. We have found articles online and put them on a template with questions that each Science Ambassador has thought of themselves. As well as this, we have created a Science poster to welcome students into the Science department. We are looking forward to creating more engaging activities for students to use in the future”.
Two teams of Year 12 students also took part in the programme to design and prepare a product to a strict Unilever brief. The students used digital resources from Unilever, and their creativity to design their own product from concept to manufacture, looking at marketing, brand, consumer focus and packaging. Both entries were amazing and both were entered into the All About STEM Competition. Congratulations to Team Lovly who were awarded first place for their ingenious water free, cleaning dry-shampoo, which caters to all hair types while only using natural ingredients. It’s easy to use grip bottle and attachments accommodate those with little mobility and help them with independence. Team Flourish were awarded third place, with their all-inclusive hair shampoo suitable for all hair types with three main products for curly, wavy and straight hair. The packaging is designed with inclusivity in mind - suction cups hold the bottle to the shower for ease of use.
The students were awarded certificates and Unilever goody bags for all team members as as winners of the competition, Team Lovly will be visiting Unilever in September to spend time with the experts and develop their ideas further. Unilever have also offered a bespoke career skills and industry session for a group of students this term.
We were delighted that we were able to enter a total five teams and their designs into the competition. In addition to the Year 9 and 12 entries, Year 8 students submitted their Terrion design - making small terrariums out of waste containers like Pringle cans so everyone can grow plants, even without a garden and HexBags - creating bags from old footballs stitched together in hexagons.
SchoolCHARITY Council

The School Council held a lunchtime fundraiser in aid of the Red Cross Crisis Appeal supporting the people of the Ukraine and raised £237 with a raffle, Guess the Name of the Teddy (won by Lily Richards (9CK), Guess the Teacher Baby Photo (won by Charlotte Harwood, 10EOK and Guess the Number of Sweets in the Jar competitions. Well done to the students involved who worked extremely hard in organising and supporting the fair and were an absolute credit to the school and themselves.
Year 10 students who are enrolled on the Prince’s Trust programme with Miss McCoy, sent out an SOS to staff and collected items for the people of Ukraine. Unfortunately due to the high volume of items being donated we were unable to find a location that would accept the items so the students made a decision to take them to a homeless shelter in Birkenhead. The cohort had a very successful trip to the shelter, staff were extremely grateful and were delighted to show the students around whilst explaining the daily routine in the shelter. On behalf of the students, Miss McCoy thanked staff who brought items of clothing, toiletries and baby items that we were able to donate.
