LAST MEETING REVIEW
Will Victory landed the feature Mares’ Handicap Hurdle for trainer Harry Fry, who won the race for the second successive season
Churchills Boy got the meeting off to a fine start, winning by four-and-threequarters of a length in the Derek Hunnisett Memorial Maiden Hurdle ahead of Our Champ for trainer Nick Gifford and jockey James Davies. The five-year-old kept on well in the run-in to secure a comfortable success. It was another fine performance in the following race, with Old Painless winning by a stunning 14 lengths for jockey Jack Quinlan and trainer Harry Whittington. That was his first win on the track and has since gone on to finish second in a step up in class. The feature race of the day, The In Memory Of Susan Corrigan Mares’ Handicap Hurdle was won by Will Victory (pictured) for trainer Harry Fry and jockey Lorcan Murtagh. The six-year-old kept on well to fend off the danger from Midnight Mary to win by two lengths. That made it back-to-back victories for Will Victory having won earlier in the month at Sedgefield. The fourth race, The Theo’s Charm Memorial Novices’ Hurdle, was won by the Tom Lacey-trained Howlingmadmurdock by four lengths ahead of Prince Imperial. The five-year-old kept on well and won going away. That win made it two wins from two and first over hurdles. Le Patron was unable to justify the market support in the following race, finishing second, two-and-a-half lengths behind Thirtyfourstitches. The Dr Richard Newland-trained gelding wasn’t particularly fluent in his jumping but kept on well in the run-in to secure a comfortable win over the favourite. Another market favourite unable to justify their support was Ozzie Man in the penultimate race of the day. The Gary Moore-trained six-year-old was held up towards the rear before being pushed along before five out but made no impression approaching the last. It was Uallrightharry who stole the show, winning by seven-and-a-half lengths. Another day of fine racing was then completed with the Paul Nicholls-trained short-priced favourite winning The Buy The Plumpton History Book Now! Open National Hunt Flat Race by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
