PLAY SMARTER BLAME THE GAME has thrived over fences this season, winning all 3 of his starts, and could still be ahead of his mark. Favori de Sivola looked as good as ever when scoring at Exeter so rates a big threat, while Pemberley was a good second in this last year and looks set to go well again after his creditable comeback at Lingfield.

MRS SHIRLEY GRIST

Mrs Shirley Grist recently passed away having only a few months ago achieved her one hundredth and first birthday. She was a long standing owner of National Hunt horses, a staunch supporter of jump racing, who loved her horses with their welfare always uppermost in her mind. Her patience was rewarded with many successes achieved, a lot of them at Plumpton. Two of her most notable horses being Little Bud, six career wins, five of them at Plumpton. This mare that she bred herself was talented but opinionated and gave her owner many anxious but also thrilling moments. Also The Hardy Boy, seven career wins, six of them at Plumpton. In one season he won three races on the bounce, and his owner won three rose bowls, and said that she felt guilty about receiving them, upon which the advice given was enjoy it while it lasts, which she certainly did! After racing win lose or draw it was back to her car, to tea and Rich Tea biscuits, a moment for congratulation or commiseration, a treasured moment at the end of the day. Shirley will be sadly missed. The Hardy Boy and Little Bud are in happy retirement.
